Right, we should name a 3rd round rookie the starter before he has ever participated a real NFL practice. That's not a recipe for disaster. Even if that is the goal, no one would gain anything by trying to do that right now.

Our DE position is thin. Amare Barno may be asked to contribute sooner rather than later. I don't think that we are a MLB away on defense. However, if I were Matt Rhule, I would seriously approach Sam Franklin about switching to MLB. Ask him to put on 15 pounds of good weight and get ready for camp. I think he can be a player there.

Not to mention Kenny Yeboah at TE. Plus his offensive line from 2020 to 2021 only saw one starter stay at the same position, his LT. They had his RG move to RT, his C move to RG, brought in a transfer C to start, and started a new LG. To say they were unsettled on the line is an understatement. His starting RT, Co-starting runningback, and top 2 receivers were picked up as undrafted free agents. Only Snoop Conner was drafted on offense other than Matt Corral, but one could argue that he very well could've gone undrafted as well. Corral definitely elevated his team.

Another tool in the arsenal that "Baby Hands" Pickett can't utilize. Corral has a very good pump fake.

I saw the same thing. His 2020 tape was definitely better. Then I looked at the roster and saw the changes from the year before and I can see that as a contributing factor as well. His line did not block as well and his receivers were borderline talents. He was throwing more off-balance and off of his back foot because the pressure was getting to him so much faster. I would have strongly discouraged him from playing in the bowl game if I was Lane Kiffin. It was a miracle that he wasn't hurt earlier in the year and the bowl game was just another test of the inevitable.

And teams have been wrong a lot. Russell Wilson went in the 3rd round. Aaron Rodgers was drafted 24th when he almost went number 1, the examples keep going. Pre draft grades are important but don't determine the final product.

I'm glad they made the attempt to go up to the 2nd, but I'm sure what they were giving up was ugly. So ultimately, the choice to reconsider, be patient, and give up less for who could have been the targeted QB all along, worked out in the immediate and long term interest of the team. Great job by them.

So smart. Corral was the best QB in this draft. I'm stunned he fell this far. I'm guessing size, injury, or character contributed. No matter what, this kid can sling it. I'm so fuging thrilled

Corral may end up being the best QB in this class as long as he isn't Ryan Leaf character wise.

Mayock should have had sense enough to stay in the booth then if he knew that was going to be the power dynamic. The only thing he had shown to be capable of is scouting. Taking Clelin Ferrell over Josh Allen, Devin White, or Rashan Gary? EVERYONE knew Ferrell wasn't worth 1st rounder, much less a top 5 pick. Embarrassing.

So they spent what amounts to 3 first round picks and a 2nd round pick for the 5th ranked receiver and 4th ranked tackle in a thin class. Cool.

You shouldn't be shocked about Willis. Media hype is a helluva thing. Johnson has questions about whether he is a designated pass rusher or a starter.

Panthers have zero chance of moving up. No team will want to move down until the Panthers anyway.

The Panthers should have people calling to move up. Especially from Jets, Texans, Seahawks, and Eagles (They have multiple firsts and more flexibility to trade away picks). I see a trade down. It will be too tempting for Fitterer to reject.
