  1. We sure as hell didn't have that under Rivera and Fox. Fox was famously too damn stubborn to adjust the coverage scheme against Arizona even though we had a corner capable of shadowing Fitzgerald and they didn't have jack sh-t outside of him at the time.
  2. Secondary used to be stellar back when they had guys like Rod Woodson. Part of me wonders if that area hasn't fallen off since Tomlin took over, but I haven't looked hard enough at it to say. I do remember some people thought Tomlin was kind of a misfit for the Steelers since he was primarily a Cover Two guy and they were married to the zone blitz.
  3. If you have coaches that are smart enough to do it. We haven't always had that.
  4. Had a feeling that was the old Alex Gibbs style. (man, that guy is a piece of sh-t) Super effective scheme for running the ball though. Shanahan regularly had average backs be thousand yard rushers using it in Denver.
  5. From what I've read, he sounds a little like Jonathan Stewart. Got a lot of little nicks and bruises but didn't miss any starts. He's reported to have given up a career high 41 pressures last season though.
  6. The Athletic actually took a look at what some of the teams that have been speculated to be interested might trade for him. The proposed offers weren't as great as you might think.
  7. They're not getting rid of Erving. Heck, they gave him a pretty good contract relative to some of the other signings. And I'm curious, exactly how much money do you think Little and Daley are making on their rookie contracts?
  8. I actually think it's gonna be fascinating to watch whether Jones succeeds or fails. Mind you, I'm more comfortable knowing that particular experiment is happening somewhere other than here.
  9. There are reports from Yahoo Sports and other sources that the Patriots were "blown away" by Mac Jones at their rookie minicamp. Take it for what it's worth.
  10. 03, I think, right around the time the Panthers closed their official boards. Pretty fortuitous timing for Igo. And yeah, in the days before Twitter, Facebook and all that stuff blew up, Panthers news and info wasn't easy to come by.
  11. Morrow has previously been titled Executive Director of Player Personnel (with Pat Stewart having the same title minus the "Executive") but was for all intents and purposes the Director of College Scouting. The Panthers recently gave that job and title to former WFT scout Cole Spencer. They did a similar "senior advisory" thing some years back with former College Scouting Director Don Gregory shortly before phasing him out altogether. Could be a similar story here but don't know for sure. Morrow and Pro Scouting Director Matt Allen are the last remaining executives from the Richardson era.
  12. For the record, 5 isn't taken on our roster right now.
  13. There's a fair number of good receivers on that list. But come on, Brandin Cooks over Moore? Yeesh
  14. I wonder if he's just messing around or if he's serious.
  15. I could see that. One thing: The Bears system doesn't really fit Newton's skill set much better than the Patriots system does.
  16. Hadn't thought about it much prior to now, but I think Getzenberg is right. The new staff's emphasis on OL versatility does likely mean Little is gone. Hell, the dude can barely play one position.
  17. There's no suggestion in this post that Newton is coming back. There is, however, the possibility that he doesn't stick in New England.
  18. For the record, the teams most commonly speculated to be the "front runners" if any Watson trade occurs at this point are the Eagles and Dolphins.
  19. Decent article: No obvious answer a left tackle, but the team has options Getzenberg thinks the depth chart currently has Cam Erving at the top, followed by Trent Scott and Brady Christensen. She adds this note about Greg Little: The Panthers have had Little play a bit at right tackle in practice, but he is truly just a left tackle. The team drafted him back in 2019 to be the left tackle of the future. For a variety of reasons, it has not worked out. A significant amount would have to change for him to be in the conversation to start. His lack of versatility in terms of position makes his future with this team worth watching. Wasn't aware the team had tried him on the right, but it sounds like it didn't work out. I'd say we can probably put the "try Little at guard" idea to rest. She also mentions that Dennis Daley is more likely to get looks along the interior or as a utility backup.
