  1. Too excited about the game to come up with a menu.
  2. Detroit's team has been cursed. It's the only explanation for how they could suck so bad for so long. Can't blame him for wanting out of there. Also, can't blame him for wanting to head to sunny LA and play for a team that has the window open right now and a couple of years more. That cost, though... Whew, too rich for our blood.
  3. This is where I am, across the board. If we can answer yes to all three of those things, and have that answer by this Sunday, then our schedule could lead us somewhere great. We have a lot of weak teams for the first three quarters of the season sprinkled in with some mid-level contenders. We don't have really top tier competition until the final four games, with the Bills and two tilts with the Bucs (who may have already locked things up or fluttered out by then). There's an argument to be made that if it all clicks, we could be looking at 12-5 before this ends. If two out of three of those posits goes negative, we could just as easily be looking at 5-12. The thing about it is, we're going to know within the first four games what we have. It's kind of exciting, but there's an equal mix of trepidation on my part. I'm not convinced of anything yet but I sure am hopeful.
  4. There is the chance that Thursday night's game was an outlier and is too small of a sample size to judge this season by. Also, there's a pretty good chance that neither the Bucs nor the Cowboys can play pass defense worth a sh!t and there were two first class passers out there. The most common final score in NFL football games is still 20-17.
  5. If some starting QB for a team with a shot goes down, Cam may very well get a call. But this kind of thing just seems a bit of attention seeking stuff that doesn't do his legacy much good. Personally, I like the guy and it sucks that football ends careers this way, but it does. Few players get to go out when they choose to and a few of the greats do a lot to damage their legacy by drawing it out. Of course, for a couple of million bucks, which of us wouldn't mess up our own legacies? When it comes to Cam and returning to the Panthers... please, let old girlfriends find new homes, don't invite them back. It's never the same as it was and it always ends up messy.
  6. A good running back who can handle screens well can play havoc with a pass rush. Wonder if we have someone hanging around who can fulfill that role for us. Oh yeah... that guy! Maybe our pass protection will also be better than advertised. We can hope, right?
  7. Just clog up that middle and give us an anchor for a stout run defense. Sacks are stat bonuses but we need him to be that immovable road block. It seems he's made for it and mean enough to do it.
  8. I got an immediate appointment with my doctor who on seeing it immediately sent me off to the emergency room. Within an hour I was in a mini surgery room with a doctor and a nurse digging away at it. That was, unpleasant.
  9. I feel for ya man. I get boils time and again. They are no fun. A few years ago, I didn't think much of them until I got one on my abdomen that ended me up in the hospital for three days on an IV drip. MRSA and to this day there's still a scab that won't go away. People die from those things, had no idea until then.
  10. Okay, I spent most of my life in WNC, in the Boone/West Jefferson area. Family full of real estate agents, brokers, contractors and carpenters. It's a tough area to make a living in, the real estate prices are out of reach of most folks or the plots are out of reach of most services. Here's my advice. If you're hell bent on doing this, you need to look for land south of Avery County and north of Buncombe County. Mitchell, Madison and Yancey. Everything else is priced based on tourists, second homers or college town rates. All three of those have difficult terrain, but you may find some plots and lots that could fit your bill. A lot of those places have no road access and you'd have to negotiate/buy access, then build a road to them. Grading and gravel alone are going to be massive costs. And then running electricity to them can be prohibitive since you will probably be some distance from a main line. And well-digging is going to require some kind off roadway to get the big truck in. Find you a good well-witcher before buying the property because there's no guarantee of water resources, especially on the size lots you are talking about. You may have some luck by asking about recently cut timber lands. They usually have rudimentary roads at least, but you're going to have some non-plus scenery for quite a while. Also check to make sure that the properties don't have restrictive covenants about hunting, etc. Those are more common than you think as families will sometimes sell of small plots to cover taxes that border on their own hunting properties. They'll do the restrictive covenants to create kind of a poaching barrier and protect their own wildlife for later harvesting. And believe me, your sites will be easier to sell to hunters than to RV'ers in the near future. Check the surrounding land records for covenants and walk the property to make sure it isn't posted. Check with neighboring land owners if they are open to leasing hunting rights. Good luck with this. It's going to be a hard dime to turn, but if you're smart and sweat equity it, you can do it. If there is a good road and room enough for a septic system on site, you might be able to market the lots to tiny house owners who want a more back to nature lifestyle.

  12. Historically, that's when we do our best work. So, let's get to workin' guys!
  13. In truth, yeah. We are who they say we are until proven otherwise.
  14. I'm hoping for a Pyrrhic victory for the Cowboys -- they bust the Bucs in the mouth and expose as tired and worn out like most Super Bowl winners are the next season, but in the process, the Herculean effort to win the game leaves the Cowboys spent and in shambles.
  15. I get the feeling Darnold is going to be fine here. I'm more worried about the line in front of him than his abilities on display. We had another guy once who was all but a washout in the league when he got here, but he turned out to be one of the greatest Panthers ever. QB'ed us to our first Super Bowl in his first season and damn near won it. I'm not sure Darnold has the same amount of moxie that Jake Delhomme had, but if he can find at least half that in him, we can go far. Good luck kid, we'll be rooting for ya!
  16. The worst? Really???? https://www.nfl.com/news/qb-index-week-1-ranking-all-32-starters-entering-2021-nfl-season
  17. Yeah, he will. And I'm going to point out I suggested we take him in the draft with our first pick. Of all the rookie QBs, he's leaving a pro program and going right into the best place a rookie QB could hope to ever land in the first round. I really wish we'd have gone that way instead.
  18. I wouldn't make the deal. Faust, man, Faust. Never sell your soul, eternity is a long time and bought glories tarnish quickly. As to Tepper, Rhule and Fitterer... honestly, I'm going to need some proof before I crown any of them as being "the" guys to get it done. Any old time now would be nice. I'm buying into the "we're building" thing for right now, but by the end of the season we will know what and who we have. We may well know by 4 pm Sunday. Hope it's good news. As someone over 50 (52) I'm getting tired of waiting.
  19. My hope: Darnold proves to be the guy he was supposed to be coming out of college. Return of CMC changes entire timbre of the games and converting third downs becomes easy. Offensive line gels and becomes decent as pass protectors, capable of clearing holes for CMC. On defense the little old ladies of 2020 are replaced by the new Monsters of the Midway -- Burns and Chinn both contend for DPOY and Horn is in the talks for DROY. New kicker means fewer desperation field goals but even greater number of extra points. Returners learn to just fair catch and let the offense do its work. My fear: Darnold is the guy he was with the 2020 Jets, left broken by bad coaching. CMC withers under heavy workload as we lean on him to make up for QB deficiencies. Injuries and just bad play by offensive line creates a feast table for opposing defenses. Snow goes timid again and calls the games like he was worried about the team's laundry bills. Brian Burns and Jeremy Chinn look at another year wasted on a going nowhere team. Bad third down conversion rates mean we have to lean on new kicker for 50+ yarders again and we end up trying to get Joey Slye back. DJ Moore gets injured on punt return and CMC tells coaches no when asked to go in after making a quick business decision. Rhule and Co. return to college coaching carousel. What will probably happen: We'll show some more incremental growth, Darnold will perform decently (like top 16 QB in the league levels), CMC will get close to 2000 combined yards and do most of our scoring. Defense will improve a bit, but still be weak as dishwater against the run. Offensive line will need complete overhaul by year's end, with Moton going R,L,R,L,R again in an attempt to get something solid. I'm feeling 8-9 here or 9-8, with a lot of talk about Rhule either continuing to build a team or that he might not be the guy. Snow will probably be the sacrificial coaching fire. I sure hope I am wrong.
  20. If he warms up his arm, he might have a shot at starting QB before it's all said and done.
  21. Not sure any other team has ever had NBC do them this honor:
  22. When a veteran like him sucks, it's really easy to spot and to decide that he just hasn't got it anymore (if he ever had it). When a rookie sucks, is he really bad or is he still trying to figure out the game and his place in it? There's the problem. A drafted player on the bench might be a bit timid out there, or it could be the coach that's actually the timid one. Rhule seems methodical, perhaps to a fault, in developing players. His penchant for taking guys from his time at Temple (and maybe a bit from Baylor) kind of speaks to it.
