The Shaq Thompson problem is a situation the Panthers made for itself by restructuring his deal over the last two years, kicking the can down the road to improve other positional groups. The chickens have now come home to roost, so to speak. Thompson could be sacrificed one way or another, but that is far from guaranteed. A scenario could emerge where Thompson is given a new deal, which gets restructured. This keeps him on the books and gives the Panthers extra wiggle room for acquisitions or tying up other key members of the team. Thompson is experienced enough to not let what comes next impact his performance levels, so take care of business between the white lines and everything else will fall into place. Whether that’s with the Panthers that drafted him in 2015 or elsewhere is the big question. But it’s hard to look at Thompson’s situation and not think that all options remain on the table.

If the Panthers can stay put and still get Florida's Anthony Richardson at #9 I will be happy.

That duo would be backed up by Marquis Haynes Sr. and Amaré Barno, two more situational pass rushers with profiles to fit the bill. Plus, the inside—as it was even in a 4-3 base—must still be addressed regardless. (Perhaps we finally see safety Jeremy Chinn move next to Shaq Thompson.) As far as the trench, the nose tackle spot has a few naturals in the 334-pound Marquan McCall, the 331-pound Bravvion Roy or even the emerging Derrick Brown. Otherwise, the slightly svelter Brown could play an as end in a potential partnership with free agent Matt Ioannidis—who already has experience in a 3-4 defense. Then, from there, expect to see pressure, pressure and a little more pressure. UNC is certainly not playing to the high level that the talent they have would suggest, so inept coaching could have a lot to do with that fact.

The hiring of Ejiro Evero as their new DC by the Panthers is great news and appears they just pull off one of the greatest coups of the offseason, He was in was in high demand for multiple positions within multiple organizations, also previously interviewed for the Panther’s HC job.

Here's hoping that Pnathers new HC Reich can help point them in the right direction as they seek the most important asset: a player with impeccable talent and unassailable football character. A quarterback to lift the franchise.

I would love for the Panthers to obtain Jacoby Brissett as a bridge QB until Corall or a QB they draft develops. QB JACOBY BRISSETT, CLEVELAND BROWNS Contract Projection: Two years, $16 million ($8M per year); $11 million total guaranteed Brissett proved to be a great choice for the Browns as their interim quarterback in 2022, and he doesn’t get enough credit for his solid play through the first 11 games. His 75.2 passing grade ranked 12th among quarterbacks with at least 100 attempts on the season, and he placed in the top 10 in big-time throw rate (4.9%). Brissett should once again become one of the highest-paid backup quarterbacks in the NFL if he doesn’t get a shot as a bridge starting quarterback.

Norv Turner joining the Raiders Offensive Staff certainly cannot be viewed as a loss for the Panthers.

If the Saints get Derek Carr, the rest of the NFC South will probably be playing for send place in the division.

They certainly seemed tired at times.

The Panthers should be a solid destination for QB Derek Carr, something I could live with as they’ll have Frank Reich an offensive-minded coach and Tepper, an owner who has shown he isn’t afraid to spend money. The Panthers roster itself has some nice offensive weapons in D.J. Moore, Terrence Marshall Jr., and D’Onta Foreman and with a QB like Carr, should be able to win the NFC South Division.

NFL Scouts are reporting that Anthony Richardson's pocket awareness is improving all the time and are impressed by his absolute cannon of an arm that can hopefully become more accurate with additional games. Richardson has more upside than most. But if the Panthers went in his direction, then giving him adequate time to refine his skills is essential rather than throwing him in as the Day 1 starter. There is still a rawness to Richardson’s overall production. His decision-making needs work and there is also a tendency to force throws rather than take what he’s given, which could become a problem against NFL defenders.
