What if Rhule turns out to be a really good just being a coach?
CRA replied to Fan01's topic in Carolina Panthers
schedule is tough this year. I think odds are we will be better on O and worse on D. That seems reaosnable. But I'm not sure being a little better than last year will drastically show in the win column with the schedule. -
Sam Darnold IMO will be the starting QB until the boos reign down at BOA and force Rhule's hand. Everything suggests Rhule wanted to repeat the process and go the Baker route. Rhule just needs wins. I think he is going to stick with Sam behind center, a comical overload of CMC and playing to the D as long as humanly possible. The Corral path is a development one. And that isn't a path that does Matt Rhule a lot of favors this season.

I think the reigns were taken from him. Not that he let up. IMO, the big Rhule issue is that the change is just from a GM/personel side of things. GM is now doing the job of the GM. But Rhule will still be doing the job of the coach. and Rhule doesn't seem to be a great leader of men at this level. His game management is problematic. Most important, his management of players and the roster is problematic. I do think having a staff of coaches that are frankly better overall NFL coaches than Rhule will solve some of the glaring Rhule issues. But Rhule is a long documented micromanger. That's a DNA thing. Which I think the Matt Rhule thumbprint is inevitable despite the better staff.

Joe Brady was a green OC. Hiring Joe Brady meant he was going to need time develop. Part of the deal from the jump when you hire someone that has never been an OC much less a NFL one. I simply accept that. I’ve always called him green and I always pointed to his situational play calling as the key area he needed to develop and grow. I’ve also highlighted the fact he was a bad pairing for Matt Rhule. Brady is talented but a green OC like him needed a real NFL HC. We did this comical thing of everyone being green. Everyone. So we weren’t practicing like a NFL team should and devoting time to areas like we should. Because the entire org was from college and didn’t know what to do. But that’s not a Joe Brady issue in reality. That’s an organization issue. Everyone can’t be new and not know the NFL. So the fault there is above Brady. But Joe Brady had consistently impressed overall except for one scenario given what he was …..and that was when the worst QB in the NFL was thrown at him. and yes, people were praising our 2020 offense. We were overachieving at the time given what we were. We should of been horrible. That was the expectation. We were in every game that year except for the ones against the eventual SB champs.….and frankly shouldn’t of been. And it’s why Brady got HC interviews.

Rhule got to where he is today by being Rhule. I’m pretty sure he thinks the brand and what does works. I don’t expect him to change because that’s not what you see happen. Riverboat Ron was always just Ron. He just had a funny nickname. this wishful Rhule thinking is like wishful Sam thinking. Or wishful Teddy thinking the year before. We know who people are. We just don’t want it to be so. *but it’s a good thing the power structure appears to be changing and our GM is now in charge. That’s the way it should be. Rhule might of had more success if things were structured better at the start. -
that first round pick for Hollywood trade becomes a lot clearer

Think it’s how you choose to interpret that. I ask my boss what she wants to do. I do it because she has the final call on what we do on big things. Not me. I give her info. Tell her what I want and think. Then it rests with her. What does she want to do. it’s just hard to walk away from all that coverage of the draft IMO and not think Fitt has control of the roster at this stage. Completely different tone vs prior years. Rhule’s behavior. Fitt’s behavior. Behavior of the local reporters who have a feel for what is going on. Which is how it should be. Why would anyone want a green college HC to be running things? Having roster control and all that. I don’t disagree with some growth going on. Tepper. Fitt. Probably Rhule. But I think the growth has put Rhule in more of a position that he should of always been in. Which is less power and control.
-
I would say in 2022 the GM is clearly running the football side of things. Debatable who had final say the previous years and was running it.

Just a guy that has seen a lot of poo coaching over the years and can spot it as a result

well, I guess we will see how strong the Sam Darnold effect is. the last guy was getting HC interviews and everyone on his offense was having career production after one year. And that was coming off historic collegiate offense. then came Sam. Who was the worst starting QB in the NFL. So if McAdoo sucks with Sam? Then Joe Brady was just a super talented yet green OC that Rhule threw under the bus because of his nightmare QB.
-
Look at Sam Darnold. A NFL coach is about to trot him out there for the 5th straight season as a starter…..primarily because of where he was drafted. a 3rd round QB better swim the moment he is thrown into the water or he gets designated a career backup to bounce around the league. He won’t get the opportunities to grow and evolve like a high draft pick. I think too many around the league overly value draft status vs play once guys have played in the NFL
-
It didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out Urban Meyer sucked and didn’t belong in the NFL. It doesn’t for Matt Rhule either. Or a host of other glaringly bad coaches. Maybe the GM can get on the headset this season too during games. That’s basically where Rhule is at.

Reports are they were split in house. So you can’t lump every together as feeling the same way. We just know where the OC stood. He was on the side of drafting the kid.

Seems like a much smarter path than listening to Phil Snow Which furthers the assumption Rhule wanted Baker to repeat the scenario for a 3rd straight year.
-
he was only counted once. 24 different QBs. Brady only counted once, just like Peyton and Big Ben only were counted once too. 13 first round, 11 non-first round.
-
if my quick math is right (might not be). Last 20 years. 24 different QBs have played in the Super Bowl. 13 first round products. 11 that weren't.
-
that's weird mock. I bet 3 cents a Clemson defensive lineman goes in the top 10 too.
-
No worries. Rhule probably will give us 10 games of Sam. 5 of PJ. 2 of Corral.
-
the 2023 QB picture is going to look a lot different next April than it does today. Just look at who was projected to win the Heisman at the start of last season. college football is often a wild ride.

Montana/Brady 3rd/6th the 2 GOATs.

If you add Fitz, he is the best QB on the roster in terms of week 1. And the entire team will know that. Now you could start Corral over Fitz. Because that would be a development angle. But you couldn't start Sam. So that's a problem for the staff IMO.
