Renfrow is good or bad depending on your scheme, QB and what you want to do on O. Hard for us to know if he would even fit here given we got no clue what our HC is going to attempt with Bryce. a Tom Brady would have destroyed folks w/ Renfrow though
-
and going to Adam Theilen in the pass game is also why our offense posed virtually no threat to opposing defenses. Theilen is a weak receiving TE with good hands IMO in terms of what he is giving you and threatening opponents with.
-
that's just coaching/scheme decisions largely. Renfrow is only going to work in an O that wants to take advantage of that type slot play. I mean, you can go listen to NFL players speak on him on all these player podcast. Renfrow is a unique beast. Just a very specific specialist. He isn't going to hold the same value for all 32 coaches.
-
I mean, AT isn't what you actually want out of the slot position if you are going w/ heavy pass looks. He is slow, doesn't get open, I think ESPN analytics had him at 132 in terms of his YAC ability vs the field.

Hunter Renfrow is one of the best pure slot players in the game. But you got to want to run that type game like a Tom Brady did in NE.

What will Dionte Johnson’s attitude be on the Panthers?
CRA replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Johnson is 100% by far the best WR. He is WR #1. Theilen already is our slot WR. We made that our #1 WR spot in our bad O last year. He shouldn't be. Theilen should be our #4 Rickly Proehl off the bench for big pass downs. Mingo should be trying to develop into reliable enough to work the slot where Theilen was. My dream would be Johnson as the # 1 , draft a Leggette or someone to play opposite of Johnson on the outside. Mingo working the slot. Theilen comes in on big downs or big pass downs looks like a Proehl. I mean, he has hands. That's basically all he has. * Raiders cut Renfrow. Sign him for cheap and let him teach Mingo how to play the slot. I mean, if you value true slot play, Renfrow does it as good as anyone. Let him take up a TMJ/ISM roster spot. -
My Depth Chart (For your Convenience--Top 10 needs included)

a 2nd round C isn't a solution for 2024. Not saying we shouldn't draft one. But you got to assume that's a developmental pick when we make it no matter the round. I think outside of WR/RB or LB/Edge player.....it's really hard to expect too much from most rookie positions in year 1. -
What will Dionte Johnson’s attitude be on the Panthers?

that's also a different era. lot of that the team greatly disliked 89 and we had the leadership to deal largely with the headache. I think in addition to a lack of dawgs....we have a lack of leadership. Morgan is going to have to solve that part of the puzzle too. -

in an ideal world, we essentially make Theilen the unhappy WR. He is historically a bit whiney too and got the ball way too much last year. -

I think he wants the ball. And unlike Pitt who had an emerging Pickens (that times up with his unhappiness)....he will be far and away the best WR rostered here. So we should give him the ball. I do not see him being a happy camper not getting the ball a lot. He is playing for a new deal/team in reality this year. -
TMJ is done IMO. I don’t view Canales as water into wine coach. He simply walked into a team that had featured a good WR duo for some time and had vet QB play. We need to move on. Our WR corp can’t be the same plus Diontae. Hope Mingo is putting in a lot of work. Got to think a new offense in year 2 isn’t going to be ideal for him to make huge strides in year 2. He starts over to a degree. Like Theilen, Mingo was a bit force feed. While his numbers aren’t great I think both Mingo and Theilen looked better on the stat sheet than they actually did on the field last year
-
I could get down with this
-
Yep. He needs to be Ricky Proehl
-
I think that’s largely why we got him. Steelers have been trying to deal him for some time. I don’t have a problem with some attitude….not sure we really have the leadership to handle that type guy presently though. But he needs to produce and behave to land his next gig so that likely helps with this rental.
-
Theilen’s YAC ability is just horrific vs the field. It is really going to limit the offense having him live in the slot another year
-
-
lot of players have trained very hard for that 40 or are track kids. It’s overblown to an extent. Football speed matters more and they aren’t exactly the same things. I mean I follow the Clemson boys pretty well. Lot of studs at WR there. Fastest is random Jacoby Ford. Just track speed. Track kid. Wasn’t a good WR vs all the others
-
It’s not apples to apples. Johnson is in a different tier than Theilen. Johnson played on the outside and Theilen was running the slot often gifted stuff last year
-
Bryce Young is an anomaly at QB. You either have to build your offense to suit him or he is going to bust. Simple as that. And we did literally nothing for him to succeed last year.
-
We need short term and long term help for Bryce Young. Rookies take time to get up and running. I consider this a one year rental. We still need to go draft a kid
-
He is better than Theilen. I like this move. But we still need to draft a WR in the 2nd.
-
I want to just pick where we are. Our roster sucks. There will be guys we reallly could use at the top of the 2nd.
-
“Listen, I’ll move down or trade you Derrick Brown for a 7th rounder” what I assume Fitterer would say
-
It basically worked with Thomas Davis….and they have been fooled by that ever since
-
Just Tepper PR IMO. He did what he wanted at the end. Or literally everyone the PR firm suggested essentially said no thanks behind the scenes.
