  1. One reason I like going the route of one of the developmental prospects in not-the-first-round is that as painful as it might be to have Teddy as our starter in some respects, knowing there's someone behind him that has a shot at being the QB of the future would at least be nice.
  2. Alex Smith has also had far, far better teams around him at times. IMO, they are very similar players. On Minshew, depends on the cost. I'm not sure I would want to give up a 3rd this year. However, I do think he has a chance to be a good starter... He was benched so they could tank at one point, and although he did play a bit, they weren't going to let him win.
  3. I actually do think Bridgewater is good enough to be the QB of a playoff-contending Panthers team. The problem is, I don't want to just get to the playoffs. I want to win a Superb Owl, and as much as I like Teddy as a person, and do think he can play better than he did last year, I just don't see us as being able to build the kind of roster around him needed to carry him to a SB victory. An elite QB can make up for so many deficiencies on a team.
  4. I'm not sure how desperate our FO really is. We have no idea what they've actually been doing on the QB front, other than being involved - which is what all of us wanted. We know they've been outbid a few times... So, desperate to an extent, but not insofar as to make moves that IMO would have been a bit too costly. As to Teddy B, his contract isn't as terrible as some here make it out to be... He was paid 16th in the league last year and that is honestly about where he fell in terms of QB level. Luckily it is a relatively team friendly contract and we can ditch him without a terrible cap hit next year. Tbh I would have rather gone with the much cheaper Kyle Allen, but oh well. I don't blame a coach for not wanting to go the tanking route, heh.
  5. Fair enough, but it seems to me these things reportedly happen all the time. Maybe it's hindsight with GMs changing their tune after they get someone in the 2nd or so.
  6. I'd imagine the argument that you go BPA regardless of position at 8, and if you have a first round grade on a QB that falls to you in the 2nd or 3rd...?
  7. While I generally agree with you that the trade may not have needed to go so high if Mac is the target... its 1)possible they know about interest in him we don't, 2) if they are truly completely sold on him and say one other qb, this guarantees them one of those two. No other spot would (well, other than 1 or 2 and ... )
  8. as long as they're white... but ya know, Brady wasn't Brady until a few seasons in, so there's still time for Kyle Allen!
  9. Would like to get one of the promising young QBs about to lose their job for cheapish (ideally not a 1st and if possible, not a 2nd this year) and build the OL. Start that QB. If they fall flat, we're back in it next year.
  10. Why is everyone assuming Rhule doesn't know what he wants? Maybe he doesn't love any of these QBs enough to give up three first round picks for them.
  11. So does this mean your source says we are trading with Atlanta? Seems only way we guarantee we get one of the top QBs... and Lance could go at 3 from the sound of things.
  12. Amusingly enough if they did, I'll be happy and your faith in Jones being a top QB this draft will be borne out. We both win?
  13. I don't know how you look at the Washington game and see a game where we put everything into it to win. Hell, the game was disturbingly close despite Washington trotting out one of the worst QBs in the NFL last year. Burns and Brown played their lowest or among their lowest snap counts on defense. On offense, Davis and Samuel had some of their lowest usage all year. This wasn't a team going all out to win the game. But you need to let young players get SOME experience and you don't want to be obnoxiously obvious about tanking when people are fighting for their next paycheck, either.
  14. The answer is not on the roster. But it also may not be on opening day this year.
  15. If this is a comment about how hot DJ Moore and Jeremy Chinn are, I'm totally on board.
  16. Lol if Simms is right and Jones goes #3, this board will explode.
  17. If nothing else this also shows that one you have a damn good roster you can trade the moon to get your final piece on a rookie deal. Let's build with BPA at 8.
  18. This isn't looking like it'll be our year to get a QB. BPA at #8 works for me. Maybe one of the next tier of QBs will be available in the 2nd or 3rd.
  19. 3 first round picks for #3 feels expensive... surprised it was done this early too.
  20. Fair enough. I like Fields quite a bit, and Lance's potential is something I value more than Jones' production. But I'll be interested to see how the draft plays out and I'll be excited regardless I think.
  21. Haha. Okay. We are looking at different evaluators I guess. I think Jones will be a massive mistake if we take him at 8, but I'll be happy if I'm proven wrong. Maybe someone trades up and drafts him #3... hope it isn't us.
  22. Most evaluators seem to indicate a strong drop off after that... Mond, Jones, Trask... ehhh.
  23. Definitely true... Teddy was nowhere near the worst QB in the league and far from the worst Panthers QB to play. But we can't compete at a high level with him, and he underperformed for the talent at skill positions around him... And probably most frustrating was he did seem to have the ability to move the offense, just not anything clutch when it mattered...
  24. If we can't trade up and the top 4 QBs are gone... I don't want to reach. But certainly we need something new in our QB room...
  25. Could we watch him playing in NFL games and the preseason instead?
