2005 the year that convinced the people in charge to commit to mediocrity and waste the next 4 years of football. Good times and thanks for the nightmares.

If any of these things are true, we win the game yesterday
Waldo replied to Captroop's topic in Carolina Panthers
Maybe building an offense around an amazing RB being rode into the ground is not a good idea? CMC could be a huge bonus but the way we used him last year and this year combined with our desperate need for him to be on the field leaves me very skeptical about his future availability this year once he clears this injury. It's a bad place to be and I'm never excited about ruining a star player. We will win more with CMC but how long is that going to last at the level of touches he has seen? -
Rhule blames the D when asked about offensive struggles

Brady doesn't have the strength for guard. Put Brady at LT and Ervin at LG and Scott at RG.
-
RTs require more strength than LTs and he has vastly more experience over there as a player. The only thing I can think of is natural TE help but it's not like they can't flip a TE to the left...
-
I get that but playing both tackles out of their best possible positions is mindboggling. Brady is weaker and more athletic so he is the best RT? That's odd, Moton fits the RT mold and Brady does not. The interior is just a garbage fire but it doesn't mean the OT thing is any less weird. It doesn't fix the interior but that is no reason to not have guys at their best spots.
-
Play Brady at his natural position that's LT and shake up the mess in the middle. Try anything at this point. I don't want to see Moton against a speed rusher on the left side, not that it would matter with the interior being so awful.

If you are thinking that Bridgewater is in anyway the answer then you are completely missing the point. A lower ceiling is a lower ceiling and when there is as much tape on both as there was before coming here, it is not at all surprising. Why can't we see reality and set these guys up for where they can perform at their ceilings? That's the concerning part. This is the NFL, great teams make do with less and dumb teams play pretend. Hopefully Rhule and Fritts wakes up and changes their evaluation and support processes going forward.

So why the fug did we pass on Slater? I get Fields being passed on but Slater was a day 1 LT and now we got our RT playing LT. We could have added Slater and an OG in the 3rd. That's the move I want to hear about. Thinking Darnold is more than a place holder if protected is concerning. The film is there and he was a completely known quantity in the NFL. It's almost like we have crap taste in QBs...delusions of raising low ceilings is my guess at this point.
-
It's early but we can still do a limited evaluation of Frtts. His FAs were bust, exactly as advertised. He under prioritized the oline, especially with trading for Darnold and his needs. He ignored tape and player stats of guys in the league at least 3 years, which is more than enough and a lot more than any draft pick. He is way to reliant on guys with huge injury flags. Now we get to see how he adjust to this and where he ends up as a GM. Good news is that all of this is fixable stuff.

Drafting need blindly yes, taking positional value and need into consideration while making the draft board is essential. Hurney locked on to his guys so I would say his evaluation skills were a bigger problem then his drafting for need. Little should never have been on our draft board before the 5th, that was poor evaluation, dude was a first round pick that Burns saved us from making in Hurney's mind.

It should be a tough game. My only fear is rushing CMC back too fast and him getting injured worse for longer. This offense revolves around him to function at the level the coaches need and want.

Same posters that lied through Allen's franchise times of 4 games and Bridgewater's magical morphing into the answer. Time and patients is the answer. Week opponents, no CMC, fans overreacting based on hope and film bring a crashing reality in all these cases. 9 days ago we were contenders, now we are what we were said to be in the offseason. Nothing has changed. People just wanted to celebrate and let them, the inevitable came to pass. Back to reality. Another quality backup starting for the year.
-
Just get a 2nd for him in the offseason and call it a rental. The staff is locked in with him the rest of the year.
-
Literally sign jags with no tape for 3 games and keep changing it up. The interior line is so bad that continuity and improvement are out the window at this point. The interior is so bad the evaluation on the OTs looks impossible other than it not as bad as the interior. Yikes! That bar is buried in the ground.

Rhule/Fitterer thought this was a NFL caliber offensive line.

Same old Panthers. Huge losing streak here we come.

Mediocre, it's like a magnet for us as a team. Play good D, bad special teams and an offense you can't depend on. It's home really. -
fug Joe Brady. fug Sam Darnold. fug this OL.
Waldo replied to TheoJay10's topic in Carolina Panthers
Meh, Darnold is what he always was, an arm that throws picks when under pressure and not a good long term answer. Today is on the staff for not getting a better oline together knowing what Darnold needs to play at his ceiling. -
Cam Erving and Shaq Thompson are OUT. Christian McCaffrey is DOUBTFUL
Waldo replied to SBBlue's topic in Carolina Panthers
BC has had an entire offseason and 5 weeks added to the years he played LT at school. We can scheme, we can give him help but it's time to see what he has. At worst we have Scott out there being a backup if he fails. Maybe don't count on injury prone players? IDK, seems kind of obvious if you have that kind of information, which absolutely was out there when we signed the 2 big oline free agent duds. -
That was my evaluation hierarchy of our team with what little is know still about this year at this point. In the end it is win vs loss but until then it's just trying to figure out what we really are, we will know for sure at some point. I emphasized the should because of the any given Sunday affect and that I think this specific matchup that favors us.
-
Should is the key word. If not then someone's fugged up. Their D is not very good and I don't really respect most of their O. Beating bad teams just tells us we cleared being bad. Next comes mediocre, then good and finally contenders. We can hope and pray all we want, we will know a lot later in the year which we are now.
