Laughable. No NFL team is 5-10 years away from competing in this day and age. That's not to say it isn't possible we continue to suck for the next decade but there's no reason why we HAVE to. If Bryce isn't the answer then we draft another QB next year. Or give Bryce another year and if he doesn't work out we go QB in 2026. That's how it works. It wasn't that long ago that the Texans were viewed as a lost cause. Then they drafted Stroud. Same with the Bengals pre-Burrow. No team in the NFL is more than 2 years out of contention theses days with a little luck and the right moves. Again, not saying we'll have any luck or make any right moves, but missing on a top-5 QB is no longer a 5+ year death sentence in this league.

Where would the Panthers be if they sat Bryce Young last season?
Jay Roosevelt replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Probably in roughly the same spot, TBH. With that coaching staff we weren't going to win many games regardless. We may have finished with 4 wins or something. -

Hoping for Brendan Rice if he's still there.

Panthers Select Trevin Wallace LB - Pick 72, Round 3

Meh. Reach. -
Let's be honest, those two 5th rounders were going to be on the waiver wire after camp next year anyway.

Dionte Johnson is the big move. XL is a coin flip, as basically any WR drafted at the end of the 1st round would have been. Mingo is still a mystery + we'll likely add at least one more receiver tonight or tomorrow. We're better than last season with the Dionte Johnson trade alone; how much better will depend on how XL (and any other wideouts we draft) work out and on Mingo's development.

Panthers Select Xavier Legette WR - Pick 32, Round 1
Jay Roosevelt replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
The 5th year option is arguably more valuable with WRs than any other position, so trading up one spot will be well worth it if XL ends up working out for us. TBH, I like him as a player but I'd have preferred Ladd McConkey due to his route running ability. However, Dave Canales has helped develop a similar prospect to XL in D.K. Metcalf in the past and XL does have higher upside than Ladd, IMO. Plus, there's always the chance we double-dip and take Ladd tonight. -
My final mock this year...

Char observer final mock Mike kaye

Edgerrin Cooper is my choice for #33 if he's there. Then grab a WR. -
Why is no one considering double dip at WR?
Jay Roosevelt replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm certain we double-dip at WR, just not necessarily in the 2nd round. I think we go WR with one of the 2nd rounders and get another WR in the 3rd/4th. -
Texans new uniforms. Past time for Panthers
Jay Roosevelt replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Every time a team debuts new uniforms that try to be all "sleek" and "modern" they always end up looking dated within 5 years. See the Browns, Bucs and Jaguars re-designs from the mid-2010s. All three teams ended up changing back or to a new design by the end of the decade. Then look at the most iconic uniforms in the league that have been roughly the same for decades: Steelers, Packers, Raiders, Cowboys, Giants, etc. The one common factor is simplicity. Everyone wants to be the Oregon Ducks of the NFL. They should stop trying so hard to fix what's not broken. -
Would you grab falling star t'vondre sweat?
Jay Roosevelt replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
Maybe. Depends on the round. He's hard to pass on at the top of the 4th round for sure. 3rd? We have bigger needs. -
That's my absolute DREAM scenario. I know everyone will flip if we don't take a WR in the 2nd round but both of those guys are legit All-Pro caliber prospects that would be core players on this team for the next 10+ years barring injury. 2nd: Jackson Powers-Johnson, C, Oregon 2nd: Edgerrin Cooper, LB, Texas A&M 3rd: Johnny Wilson, WR, Florida State 4th: Braelon Allen, RB, Wisconsin 5th: Mohamed Kamara, EDGE, Colorado State 5th: Ainias Smith, WR, Texas A&M 7th: M.J. Devonshire, CB, Pittsburgh

Darin Gantt: Trade down from #33
Jay Roosevelt replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Depends entirely on the situation. Who's on the board? How far are we trading down? What are we getting in return? I don't have any issues with trading down, but it needs to make sense. I do think often times staying where you are and taking the better player provides more value than trading down and getting 2 or more lesser players. -
According to Legette, Panthers will draft Legette at #33
Jay Roosevelt replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think we could very well draft XL in the 2nd round, but I think it's more likely to be with #39. I think we go defense with #33, trade down, or take a higher-rated WR prospect who falls out of the 1st round. -
According to Legette, Panthers will draft Legette at #33
Jay Roosevelt replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Could very well be true, but at the same time you hear after the draft all the time players who are surprised when a team doesn't pick them after telling them that they're going to. -
The only defensive player I'm really interested in with either of our 2nd rounders is Edgerrin Cooper. Otherwise it needs to be offense.
