Albert Breer on the Panthers quarterback options
ForJimmy replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
So people are thinking a coach with roster control on the hot seat is going to roll with Darnold again? Hell he should have just resigned and took a college job. Unless Tepper some how takes away Rhule’s roster control, I don’t see him putting his job on the line with Darnold… -
Albert Breer on the Panthers quarterback options

I really don’t even want a big splash vet because I think Rhule will get screwed over on the trade like he has every trade he has made. Plus a big splash vet could save Rhule’s job and no one wants that. Darnold, FA cheap QB like Mitch or Mariotta or draft are the only options I want. -
Now you are just being dramatic for theatrics… Does he get uncomfortable under pressure? You mean like Brady, Rodgers, and most QBs in the league. Is he short like Brees, Russ, Rodgers, Murray or the upcoming QB everyone loves Young? See I can do it too…
-
Exactly. Drafting a QB is tough and there aren’t many “sure things.” I think Luck and Lawrence (who struggled as a rookie) where the two with the least amount of flaws I’ve seen in a while. Top guys like Allen and Mahomes weren’t even the top ones drafted in their class. We need to draft one we like and try developing him eventually. There are plenty of options in this class, but our staff sucks at developing players…

Howell was talked about being the top pick before the season started. He must have checked a lot of boxes at the time. He dropped in ranking because he “regressed” from his crazy numbers his previous year. Even during a “regressed” year he put up solid numbers. I’ve watched some of his games and their offense was basically a one man show with no OL. Now, since his stats dropped scouts are concerned about his height? Bryce Young (the top pick next year) is the same height on a smaller frame. So these people who are concerned about his height, but want Young next year are making no sense.
-
Willis has a terrible OL and is a “one read” QB. Umm how do you go through reads with no OL. Howell seemed to make something out of nothing more times than not. If you want to look at him going through progressions pull up his previous year when he had some weapons and his OL didn’t poo the bed.
-
He had solid stats with a poo OL. I’m not a UNC or Howell fan, just think he makes the most sense given the state of our team and what he brings to the table. Which QB would you say is the best under pressure?
-
The best under pressure might be Howell. He face pressure pretty much every snap this past year. Willis had a poo line too.
-
Josh Allen 9-24 64 yards 0 TDs 1 INT against Oregon. 23-40 174 yards 0 TDs 2 INTs against Iowa. It’s hard to be competitive with a huge gap in the talent level around you vs your competition.
-
To defend Willis a little, he had no playmakers to compete against a top conference school like Ole Miss. His OL was terrible even in conference play. When the players around him equaled the talent of the competition he shined. Definitely a raw prospect, but if you put Corral on that Liberty team against Ole Miss’s defense you would probably see similar results…

Who are you leaning towards?

Pickett has the unlucky 7.3.

Sean Payton Officially Steps Away From Saints

Looks like we found our Special Teams Coach. -
It’s just a topic for discussion. Like you said it’s common sense, but dumb ass Rhule has said Darnold doesn’t need to be our leader with players like CMC here. So while many of us think that it’s common sense our coach is an idiot. Yeah you were right about Teddy. You tend to be a realist on this board. I am hopefully optimistic, but know when to admit a mistake and move on. So if you had to pick a QB to draft, which one would you go with?
-
It’s just discussion for this board on how these traits relate to this QB class. No one is saying it’s groundbreaking or looking for an argument about Lombardi…
-
Rather you like Lombardi or not, the info written makes sense. You want a tough, smart QB who has great work ethic, a thick skin, and is a leader of men. These were basically Burrow’s best traits and why he has found success so quickly in the NFL.
-
The hope is that Rhule won’t screw him up too bad this year and we get a coach next year that’s knows what he is doing. The praise Rodgers gave McAdoo is a little promising…
-
Maybe more YGM? It’s a cheap option…
-
I wonder if he will make it that long? (that’s what she said)

Howell’s deep ball is getting overlooked. The man can launch it down field pretty well. Unfortunately our line won’t allow him to do so… It all depends on where they go. The Broncos have a decent team set up for quick success depending on who they hire as coach. The one I think could do the best with our team/coach is probably Howell. Willis needs a year (like the Niners did with Lance), Strong needs a pocket, and Corral would get hurt. Howell has had success with a shifty OL and not good coaching. I’m not a UNC guy (Auburn fan), but I think Howell might be the best fit with what we have. If we had to draft one, a trade down and snagging Howell in the middle of the 1st would be the best case IMO.

Meatloaf?
-
You are thinking of Danny Tanner.
-
One inch shorter than Lamar and 10 pounds heavier. Obviously larger than Murray. Willis has the strongest arm in this class. He looked bad against tougher competition because the talent around him at Liberty was lesser. He has a terrible OL against teams in Liberty’s conference. He has the arm talent to be great, but will need a lot of grooming at the next level like Josh Allen did. To me it all depends on where he is drafted (like most prospects). It’s funny last year people we thinking Howell/Rattler would he battling for the top spot and Willis would be a top pick as well. I think Willis, like Howell, was a little exposed by his teammates underperforming.
-
With a good coach he could be the steal of the draft. If we get him Rhule will rush him out and probably ruin him…
-
Yeah I think our realistic options are 1. Draft a QB 2. Sign a mid/low tier FA and load up the OL 3. Try Darnold with a better OL 3 might be the worst as a fan…
