That's exactly what I have been saying about deep passes. It's a timing issue. The ability is typically there as I remember several OVERthrows, but the timing with Young and his WRs is what is going to make it work or not. It's exactly what happened with Tua when he got in sync with Hill/Waddle. Even if the arm isn't a rocket QBs can usually air it out and hit a certain spot at a certain time. This also backs @CRA's comment about DC wanted to run an offense that likes to chunk it down the field from time to time. Canales seems pretty straight forward so far.

Different perspective for not starting the starters in preseason...

That's fair. I feel like Dionte will be force fed early on, similar to AT last year. -

I don't think the whole unit has been healthy yet. I think that's part of the problem. Even our backup OT Yosh is injured. -

Seriously. He is our QB this year. If healthy he will get plenty of opportunities to prove himself and plenty of plays to whine or cry about. If he sucks again we just move on. Preseason isn't changing any of this. -
I'm pretty sure he threw a pick in the joint practice.

Here is my take about these crazy takes going around. Certain people are wanting to see Bryce in preseason so they can critique and overreact to every play he does. The same type of people that get mad that a 50 yad pass wasn't a TD type of nonsense. Bryce not playing in the preseason gives them less to complain about so they still turn it into a Bryce thing and scream our staff is "hiding" their starting QB. I think some people are stuck with Bryce brain. -

I’m not sure what Canales’ offense is. He only called plays once for one year. If Bryce doesn’t work hiding him until the regular season does nothing. It just makes it look worse. That’s why the hiding Bryce take is just dumb. Is he hiding all of his starters to protect Bryce as well? -

Hiding Bryce is the biggest joke of a take I’ve read. Let’s talk about how good Bryce played at joint practice, build up some hype, hide him, then start him to let everyone down during the regular season. What could go wrong?? -

Canales said he is trying to limit injuries and sort out the depth. He also stated the joint practice went well enough that he felt comfortable holding most starters. I don’t think it’s some secret offense or hiding Bryce. I think it’s literally what the coach is saying. -
Word on the street is Nicole Tepper is having them lie about Lamar Jackson’s injury because his name makes fans think of the Ravens QB which takes attention away from Bryce. More to come later…
-
Now you got it! I think Tepper had him cut! Always meddling!

Maybe you didn't know that Johnson scored a preseason TD against the Jets 3rd string defense!
-
RB room looks like Chuba, Miles, Brooks, and Blackshear. I think Boone was even ahead of Johnson. Maybe we can stash him on the PS, but we just don't have a spot for him on the roster.

What is the benefit to benching starters for the preseason?
ForJimmy replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
I’d say DC gets several plus years like Rhule did. He got to bring in his own staff too. People who have worked with/under him before. Frank did not and that’s one of the reasons it got so toxic. Sure if Bryce gets hurt early we probably still look at a QB if an upgrade is there, but it will be tough to decide on what’s an upgrade. We need to evaluate him this year so we can make a clear decision next year. -

I'd say it's way too early for that. Even the backup OL looked better this past game than last year. We paid out for 2 proven OGs and yeah C may need some work but Corbet can block if he can hike the ball correctly. I'm just not buying the another 17 games may not be enough for Bryce. If he looks as bad or worst after 33 games played that's it. It's gets grey if Bryce gets injured or if Bryce looks better but to what degree. He gets injured in preseason and we are sitting in the exact same situation next year. Again I don't think the few extra reps in preseason will have this huge change of outcomes on the season. We may start off slow sure, but I'm 90% sure that's happening regardless. -

When they get reps in preseason it typically isn't enough to equate to one game. So yeah they probably will start off slow (kind of figured they would regardless), but even with that 17 games should be enough assuming he is healthy. That's less than one game of practice he will be missing. The counter to this argument is if we do play Young in preseason and he gets hurts and misses a chunk (if not all) of the season. We would still not have a good evaluation on him. Imagine if he comes back for the last couple games and plays better. Do we roll with him again? I think Canales wants his OL healthy before he inserts Bryce to start rolling out this offense. I don't necessarily agree with it or not, but it makes a little sense. -

Yeah this is what DC said in week one. Joint practice gives you reps and limits injuries. He wants to evaluate our depth and keep our guys healthy. It’s a trade off. -

https://x.com/JFowlerESPN/status/1825147136037601456 We made him an offer. Sounds like the Vikings came on stronger. I wonder if we go after another CB now? Adore Jackson could be a good upgrade.

Route running, separation, blocking. Basically everything but catching. I think Dalton would have received a lot of reps had he not been injured/recovering. I don’t get why Luton didn’t get more reps than Plummer. He has shown to be a better choice for QB3 if we even keep 3.

I think some of these are backups to the backups. Looks like the Jets are doing the same though.
