No he didn’t the safety was in position to make a play if he goes that way. I think it was a poor route concept tbh. Thielen did get briefly open but the other receiver was still progressing on his route and not taking the safety with him quickly enough

Physical defense and run game was our identity. Ironically, Richardson modeled it after the Steelers only for Tepper to dismantle it. While the game did tilt more in favor of passing offenses, you can see that without a run game and physical defense you can't win in the NFL. Dolphins are a prime example

When I think of why Gruden hates Carolina it goes back to the 2003 season, Bucs were defending SB champs and the young Panthers block a PAT attempt and beat them in OT to best them in Week 1 and beat them again later that year. It signaled the end of Bucs dominance in the division. Even though Panthers were up and down every year, the 2008 double trouble game was just the culmination of dominating the Bucs (9-3 vs Bucs from 2003-2008) and ending Gruden’s tenure as their head coach. He never recovered.
