Dan Graziano: Panthers will trade Diontae Johnson
KSpan replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Carolina doesn't rebuild, they reload. Unfortunately, these days it's always with blanks. -
Dianna Russian: several teams interested in Bryce Young
KSpan replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
You were since you referenced Top 5 last year. My point was that sure, some other QB-starved team probably would have taken a shot, but Carolina was the only one willing to spend additional capital to do it and now there is a season of atrocious film backing up whatever reservations other teams had. If they can get him cheap then someone will kick the tires but folks were not impressed enough to move up to secure him. Not much value to be had. -

I don't think anyone argues that point, but there is a difference between swinging and missing on a draft pick and swinging and missing like Carolina has and losing all of the other capital/talent in addition to the pick. The issue is that they spent all of that to trade up for such a physically limited player; even if the Texans had Bryce #1, as one example, they weren't willing to pay anything for the privilege of ensuring they could draft him over Stroud. -
Dianna Russian: several teams interested in Bryce Young

Every QB that's left also looked better before coming to Carolina too. I'll agree that Carolina's coaching and development has been poor for a good while now, but Bryce never had the tools to come in and light the league on fire. That is not going to magically happen anywhere else either. If he turns into Teddy 2.0 for someone else, well, good for them. Not a level of QB play I care to watch anyway... been there, done that. -
Deshaun Watson (QB Browns) Out for the Season

Gotta get my mileage out of this gif while I can.

The Panthers, specifically Tepper's Panthers, and I have been at 'just friends' status for quite some time now.

Bryce is awful. So is the offense. Just like last year, both can be and are true.

Andy Reid owns Kyle Shanahan.

Lot of parallels between Clowney and Bryce, Chief among them being that folks with eyes and a lick of common sense struggled to understand where the hype was coming from. Clowney just rode the wave.
-
Shame for him that he didn't end up panning out but man, Carolina has such a horrible, horrible history with WR selections. It's kind of impressive in a dumpster fire kind of way.
-
Just to be clear, they have not yet actually activated him. That move is still to be made, though Coach Sunshine is optimistic about it being soon.

Exactly what I was going to say, but in this form.

Rhule was clearly going to be a bad hire from the start, but at least taking a shot on a college coach can be explained. Handing complete friggin' control of an NFL franchise to a mid-tier college coach with zero success against real college competition and basically zero NFL experience is where Tepper went full dumbass, and that's a bit outside the scope of just 'bad coaching hire'. Reich was a similarly bad hire of course and was not going to achieve anything in Carolina, so this is not an excuse for Tepper going full dumbass again, but the cupboard was pretty bare and contributed to him looking even worse than the below-average coach he already was. Layer Tepper meddling and coaches acting like spies into the mix and you have another scenario that extends beyond 'bad coaching hire'.

Shenault says otherwise.

2017 called. They want their news back. https://www.espn.com/blog/minnesota-vikings/post/_/id/25242/virtual-reality-played-a-role-in-transforming-case-keenums-game And until he's wearing a brain stimulator like Kirk Cousins in the Quarterbacks show, he's not giving it his all.

It was downright negligent to not have a valid backup on the roster. Lo and behold...

My concerns started when Tepper retained Ron and Marty for 2019, were heightened to alarm levels by the Rhule hire, and I hit 'just friend' when Rhule was retained in 2022. Now basically entirely apathetic, but that is also aided by the giant turn-off that is the NFL's monster push toward gambling. Love the players themselves giving it their all, but I was a diehard since '95 and the current ownership and decision-making has completely killed my investment.

Thank you, we'll be playing for the bracket championship! Focus has been on teaching and prepping them for the jump to middle school tackle, so on defense (my side of the ball) we have strong/weak orientation, multiple coverages and formations including split field, blitz packages, and a bunch of pre-snap calls that other teams don't. It's a little out of place for flag and they sometimes make the painful mental mistakes that remind us they're still only 11, but our boys will be well ahead of the curve next year vs the kids on teams that just come out and rely on the best athlete to do his thing. One mom jokingly said yesterday that she 'blamed me' for her son now constantly pausing NFL games on TV and talking about the coverage he was seeing Great feeling to help kids love the game at that level. Back on topic though, no surprise that Bryce looked a little better in soft garbage time. He is no more than a really expensive low-ceiling project QB at this point.
