Panthers close to deal with G Austin Corbett
jb2288 replied to UNCrules2187's topic in Carolina Panthers
I honestlycan't remember.... did Brown do anything at all that made us think he could be an average starter? I know Rhule refused to play him then I phased out the end of the season so could of just missed it -
Wow great for him he earned it. Also thank god we didn’t pay that
-
It's surprising to me we haven't yet come up with a way for owners to pay players directly. Something that clearly is against the rules, but we know everyone does... I guess akin to Alabama, Ole Miss, Texas etc paying players in college prior to NIL. Gotta imagine someone like Tepper would be happy to pay Watson out of his pocket to get him to take a "team friendly deal". Ticket sales and increase of the franchise valuation would make up for it pretty easily, gotta imagine. In a hypothetical like that, who cares what you give up in the draft, you can just go overspend in FA and fill all the holes with those picks you gave up. Now that I really think about it, it sucks we have the richest owner in the league but can't really use that to any advantage.

that's exactly what rebuilding is? They fired their coach and figured out what they had the first year while knowing they'd be awful while hoarding cap space and high value draft picks (what we should have done instead of getting Teddy). Let the new coach pick his QB with the pick year 2, sucked that year. I think everyone will agree they jumped a year or two because of how good Burrow is, but that is textbook rebuilding.

You’re thinking too small. These restructures and cuts add up

I don’t understand this move at all unless we have something big brewing like a Russel trade?

Panthers have reached out to Minnesota for Kirk Cousins

Ugh. Only way I do this if it’s a 1:1 swap for Sam. We get rid of Sam’s contract and have the space to take on a bigger one, Vikings get cap relief. I wouldn’t give any picks -
No. Hence why I said go look at his numbers this year.
-
I wouldn’t sleep on Wentz. Go look at his numbers this year with a garbage WR room, they’ll surprise you. People forget he was an injury away in the late late regular season from winning the MVP. We should have gotten him over Darnold last year

How far would the Stafford led Panthers have gone?
jb2288 replied to Sean Payton's Vicodin's topic in Carolina Panthers
10-7 and a wild card loss -
Would love him on a trade back. If we’re at 6 with all QBs on the board you gotta get out of that pick, it has too much value with all the holes we have. Or don’t get cute and take best LT

Albright: Panthers circling on Pickett
jb2288 replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
Im not convinced yet, but do have a little faith this is smoke. We’ve seen this off-season someone is forcing Rhule to make decent decisions like hiring actual NFL coaches instead of his buddies. If he has lost full authority with coaches, he may have also with personnel, and this could be Scott just building excitement for that pick. We know he loves to trade back, and if Pickett ends up the QB1 after the combine, and he’s there at 6, that pick has way more value. -
Now compare this to all the QBs coming out this year and take the one most opposite
-
I mean not a huge splash, but damn someone with prior NFL experience at the spot? I know the bar is low here but sounds like a decent hire. I was fully expecting one of Rhule's buddies

Sean Payton Officially Steps Away From Saints

Tepper, go make him say no. -
What’s your pitch to Aaron Rodgers to come to Carolina
jb2288 replied to Leotiger's topic in Carolina Panthers
My pitch? Top 5 defense (PFF), elite WR1 and RB1, will use first round pick on OL and another big name OL in free agency, fire Rhule and new coach you like. I don't even know if we have the money or assets but that's where I'd start
