  1. Scot, as you like to say, "you're smarter than that." You know I meant censor in a metaphorical sense. If a while crowd of people go out of their way to smother any dissenting opinions until there are none, that is censorship lol. As far as shaq, cool... Then I'm wrong. I still would've liked to go about things differently.
  2. You're right, scot, we all have been wrong at some point. I've said in this very thread that I have been wrong, and will be wrong again. But I've been right more often than not, if we want to consider predictions made here on the huddle. I'm not saying I'm an NFL talent evaluator, but that's where that is a ridiculous argument to be made as well... Anytime someone says, "I don't agree with this pick, I think player X was better," they are immediately met with, "well he's an NFL Gm with 208 years of talent evaluation experience, you're Internet nobody." okay... So why are we even here discussing it then? You're saying one thing, but doing another. I didn't compare myself or my resume to gettleman, nor would I. TRG did. That's the problem we're running into here. Everyone IS free to agree or disagree with the picks, signings, lack of signings, etc, but the moment someone steps outside of the box and says "I would've done this," they get hit with a nuke, "well you're not in the front office. Let's all worship at the altar of gettleman." That isn't inviting discussion or differing opinions. And so, here I bring it full circle... That whole thing about everyone getting it wrong sometimes... So do NFL front offices. So has Gettleman. So, it's possible that the people saying they disagree with moves may be right. That's the funny thing about the draft and what you just stated... How is disagreeing at this point, wrong? No one knows until these guys play games. Once they do, whoever is right can say, "I told you so," but until then, yes, there is a suffocating circle jerk attempting to shutdown anything that doesn't jibe with their way of thinking. Contrary to popular opinion, I don't hate gettleman. In fact, it's in my interest for him to do an awesome job because my team's success depends on it. But, as a fan, I disagree with his approach. Do you want to talk about who has been wrong, or made a dumb argument? Let's talk about his approach to the WR corps and OL last season. Would you like to dissect that? I don't feel like digging it up, but I can't count how many idiots had a wet dream on this very forum when we signed Cotchery. I reminded them he was a situational WR that was best working out of the slot, and greatly relied on talent around him to open things up for him, and that was how he got 10 tds in the season before. That was shot down. Gettleman was a genius, well simply plug him in and he'll give us the same production. How did that work out? Same with avant. The OL? We don't have to go through the details. I complained from the offseason on that the lack of speed and talent at WR would kill our offense and would make things very hard for cam. That's exactly what happened. Our offense is what held up back, almost knocked out of the playoffs, and ended our season in Seattle... I understand gettleman can't magically snap his fingers and fill in all those holes we had in one single swoop... But I knew it was a weakness and voiced that. It was never appropriately addressed and it remained a problem that plagued our season. I wasn't wrong about that, but those on the other side of the argument refused to accept that, as illogical as it was, and then eventually, because of that denial, turned around and blamed Cam for all of our issues, lol. So, it's a never ending cycle... My hope was that we would address those issues so we won't go through that again. As random Internet fan guy, just like everyone else here, I felt those needs were best addressed in other ways. Gettleman made his moves, and we'll see what happens, but until then no one knows who is right or wrong. And if I'm wrong, I'll be eating my crow and cheering like everyone else. I don't give a poo as long as my team is winning. But, in that same vein, that crowd that convinced themselves gettleman tricked the entire league by gutting our receiving corps and then assembling the slowest unit around that caused so many of our struggles have an awfully short memory... It's a two-way Street. Front offices aren't immune from criticism and mistakes either.
  3. Possible. I was just watching nfln and they have a reporter in New Orleans and they said there was an audible groan everytime a TE was picked... I consider Funchess a TE, so it may have been they were targeting him.
  4. Your opinion matters too. I'm not saying it for my sake. I'm saying the gettleman fan club is quickly approaching Stalin-esque levels of censorship. I'm not getting into this to start the day off, TRG. I thought there were better ways to acquire a receiving talent. We're not privy to all the info nfl front offices are, but it appears we took shaq earlier than he could've been had, then traded several picks to move up and take funchess. I wanted speed and sure hands. That can still be had, but the black and white of it is, I didn't like the way we went about it and who we took in this moment... They both could be great players. But this board is here to discuss agreement, disagreement, etc. I want our team to win Superbowls. If gettleman's picks do that, then he is the greatest man that ever lived... Regardless, we have the ability to agree, disagree, and discuss. You're right, who cares what I say, you say, or anyone on this board says... Oh well, who wants discussion? Unless we live in gettleman's buttcrack, we have no right to speak.
  5. I wrote out a long reply and it got erased. All I'm saying is great eyes for talent aren't limited to nfl employment. That's not to discredit gettleman, I'm just saying that any person can watch someone play, run, catch, etc. and discern skill and ability... Some do it better than others. Ultimately, Internet guy that projected cam newton to be a surefire franchise QB, or luke to be a surefire defensive cornerstone and dpoy candidate, doesn't really matter in the big scheme of things... But neither does all of the dumbass, thoughtless, "welp, that's why they get paid the big bucks. In gettleman I trust..." That's how we went without consecutive division titles for almost 20 years. That completely kills dialogue, dissent, and a spectrum of thoughts that should be voiced and discussed. I'm trying to figure out when it became a criminal offense to disagree? You're telling me what and how to say it, and yet, I've seen your very antagonistic posts inviting that same thoughtless mentality, scot. And then once you get out of those "members only" discussions, you come back and play the reasoned, neutral-poster. How many PANTHERS have been discussed on this very board, to where there was one side convinced he sucks and another that thought he was pro bowl worthy? There have been plenty. Jake comes to mind... Cam is also a similar subject (although I don't believe that is based on football). Some people are convinced of their side and there is no other option... I'm not that guy. I acknowledge I can be wrong, but I'm confident in my ability as random Internet guy to recognize talent and needs. No, I don't work in the NFL, and, I probably never will... But that's what makes it fun to discuss it as random Internet guys and fans of the same team. Sometimes I'm right, sometimes you're right. But don't let me get in the middle of circle jerk city.
  6. I've moved on from it for the most part, so I don't hurt the gettleman fan club's feelings by disagreeing with his moves... But ultimately, that's the biggest issue I had with it. I said when we took Shaq, that it's likely he would've been there much further down... We likely could've traded back at least 7 picks to possibly the early second round, got Shaq, and picked up another pick to use to trade up again where we could've taken Devin Smith or Funchess. We don't know this, but honestly, neither does any gm out there... They only have an idea of what teams are looking at which players, but like Shaq said, he could've went anywhere from 20-50,and seeing how he started slipping in many projections (much like we saw with Clemmings now), that's where I have my issue,in that we could've given ourselves much more maneuverability if we traded back for shaq and picked up another pick. But oh well, it's done and that's who we have. No room for dissenting opinions, so let's all fap.
  7. And he was a P.E. coach before somebody that knew somebody hooked him up. So, just because people haven't been employed in the NFL, that means they don't have an eye for talent? Who gives a poo?
  8. I'll respond to the quotes I already have after my last post, in which I promised to refrain from posting for a few hours... But if anything else, I hope you realize I'm a genuine, sincere person/fan, Brew. It is not forced. To this point, I was not begrudging gettleman in some eternal, personal beef... But, this draft has been completely unbelievable in a horrible way. If you ascribe to common sense, nothing about trading your 2nd, 3rd, and 6th to move up and take a glorified TO with a 4. 7 official 40 and a 9% drop rate. He loves big guys and we need speed. I have nothing else nice to say for tonight, so I'm not gonna post for a few hours.
  9. I just hate the pick. We traded our fuging second, third, and sixth and passed on Strong for a worse, much worse version of KB. Thus dude is slow, struggles to get separation (sound familiar??), and HAS A DROP PERCENTAGE OF 9 OVER THE LAST TWO SEASONS. LOL... A 9% drop rate and a 4.7 40... Ya'll can have this draft. I've never been more disgusted with our draft through two rounds. And before you say we finally got a WR... FUNCHESS is not a WR, he's a slow ass TE with unreliable hands. He gave up all those picks, after saying we won't reach for ANY player... Then you move up to trade for HIM? We need speed... And yet, gettleman exposes his size fetishist again. We just don't see football the same. For you gettleman fanboys' enjoyment, I'm gonna refrain from posting for a few hours because I really have nothing good to say.
  10. That was a lot to give up. I think I miss non-reaching gettleman, lol. I would've thought strong would come off the board before funchess did. We apparently just don't see football the same. We still have the slowest receiving corps in the NFL. I just don't get it.
  11. Omg, if we just rated all that to get a fuging tackle, I give up...
  12. If we traded our 2nd,3rd, and 6th and take Devin fuging funchess,im suspending myself.
  13. Welp, that didn't take long... Devin Smith gone... Edit:WE JUST TRADED UP!!! IT'S GOTTA BE JALEN STRONG!!!
  14. I hadn't posted for two hours. Why does it bother you that not everyone wants to give gettleman a backrub for every single move he makes? I never said Thompson won't be good. I don't like the pick. In my mind, even if he comes out and kills it from start to finish, I still won't be a fan of the pick because a guy we actually needed (not wanted) was taken 4 spots later. I'm honestly tired of talking about it myself... And that's because he has severely neglected WR in both FA and the draft for two years. Great, he got us KB... He also got us Cotchery, Avant, Demario Presley (lol), Bersin (lol), Underwood ( lol), and Boykin (lol). I purposely left Philly off the list because he actually has a viable chance of being an NFL player. That is not addressing WR. For a man renowned for all of his experience and football knowledge, how the f*CK can you possibly sign that list of guys and believe it when you tell people it'll work? You signed career slot guys and #4s and tell people you can just plug them in and they'll work like anyone else, lol. It is mind-blowingly dumb. When we signed Cotch and Avant, I told everyone that espoused all the great things about them and cited cotch's 10 tds in the season before, that they were great in the appropriate role... Which is as situational guys out of the slot as a 3 or 4. It is not acceptable. It's like taking a guy's Lamborghini and then coming back and giving him a Pinto and saying, "don't worry, it drives, it'll do the same thing." Look, I'll say this to everyone who seems to take it personal anytime someone doesn't agree with gettleman or his moves... Do you think I enjoy bitching and moaning about WR? Do you all personally think I can't wait to get on here and rain on your non-stop high-five parade? You think it's because I know you love gettleman and I apparently he hate him, so I can't wait to come troll you guys? Lol... No, man... I've been here since 2004,and I'll be here until I leave this Earth old and grey - if we're not all communicating through a cloud or some poo by then lol. I'm a Panthers fan for better or worse. I'm bitching because I want what's best for my team, and imo, ignoring WR is a fatal flaw on a team that's very close to being a contender. I don't hate gettleman. I've hated some of the moves he's made, but I've also praised many he's made. Believe me, if he drafts 3 WRs through tonight and the weekend, I will be in complete chill mode. Now, if those WRs suck when the regular season comes around, then I'll point out that we should've signed a vet WR for reinforcement, but odds are, we will hit on at least one if we took three. That's all I'm asking... Address the position with speed and skill... Not that aforementioned pinto. We don't need a lambo, but at least give us a viper lol, and maybe some challengers and mustangs. I promise you, I don't enjoy complaining. I'm only complaining because this is a board we share as fans of the same team, and these are my concerns that I feel hold our team back. If gettleman addresses WR thoroughly, I feel our team will be complete going into the season... Any changes needed from there would be extremely minor and easily fixable.
  15. They're not the only ones saying it. I just thought that write-up reflected my opinion of the pick also...
  16. From what I recall, KB was almost universally and unanimously going to us in 99% of mocks out there prior to the draft. Plus, we had ZERO talent at WR going into that draft. He was projected where he went and we had no choice. Shaq wasn't even projected in the first by most pundits and he doesn't have a natural position. With as bad as WR is for us, if we took a WR, whoever we drafted at 25 would've stepped in immediately as our #2 and made huge contributions. Instead we took a tweener that lacks instincts without a true position on an already loaded defense. If he was the BPA, we must not have offense on our big board for the first round. From ESPN:
  17. The thing that gets me, if we were so enamored with him, we could've traded back and picked up another pick in the process. The only team I'd see gambling on him outside of us would've been New England. 25 was a huge reach.
  18. Just stating my opinion... It's pointless to argue about it,but you know the continued neglect in addressing WR is a sore spot for me. My issue is there is no sense of balance between offense and defense. We're collecting a surplus of defensive guys for no apparent reason, despite it being our biggest strength already... Especially the front seven. We went into FA with WR being the biggest need, and here we are, in the 2nd round of the NFL Draft and nothing has changed except we have a surplus of talent at LB and DB, despite that being our biggest strength going into FA. Oh well...
  19. People also seem to forget that it took TD several years to develop into a starter-level player. And TD was, IMO, a much better football player with better natural instincts. Whether you hate the pick or love it, really doesn't matter... He's probably going to be forced to start and play regardless.
  20. Between their 12 wins and coming within a game of the Superbowl, AGAIN.
