The Athletic: “‘Hunger Games’ culture” at BOFA
PanthersGTI replied to SuperBowlBound's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah but lets say you are for example Jim Caldwell. You talk to Josh McCown about the plan with Bryce and where you think there is a glaring error ( in this case footwork or RPO in the scheme ). You go through a week or two of meetings/practice/games. Nothing changes. Okay, next stop : Frank. Same thing. Who do you go to then when you see the ship is sinking and no one you've spoken to has shown any ability to navigate this. Next step is the GM, Franks boss. Fitt takes it in, get's you to go with him to Tepper to show that here is someone on the offensive staff with some good points about what we've seen over the last 6-8 weeks. It makes sense to me. No one is helping your rookie QB get better and they get actively getting him killed out there through sheer negligence it sounds like. -

DAMN that's bad. Frank too soft for HC. Reich was Nathaniel Hackett bad for us. Woof. -

You can look across the league. Bad owners get good coaches, most of them then stay out of the way for the most part ( publically ). Jags, 49ers, Browns, Texans, Bengals to an extent Cowboys ( they've had good ones ). The Cowboys have a meddling owner but get good coaches and let them stay until they can't produce ( except Jimmy Johnson ) and the WFT/Commanders get them from time to time and Snyder would mess it up. So its likely going to happen. When? Who knows, hopefully soon. Even if we get a guy who can only take us so far up, that is all we need right now. Our new John Fox. -

You do wonder if the bulls-t stemmed from the an environment Tepper set OR if by the time people felt like they had to talk to Tepper, Reich had proven he didn't know what the hell he was doing. Really Frank has never been shown to develop a QB and maybe they were sold that he could or at least would be able to create an ideal vision for a rookie. Sounds like Frank was in over is head from day 1. No Pederson, No Luck, No Rivers to bail him out. -

I think this is true just by the fact eventually he might even get it accidentally wrong. The one thing I will say, if a HC/GM starts getting wins, I don't see Tepper's ego driving a wedge in that. He wants a winner and once he has that he will let it ride. -

It is going to be interesting off season. What's the earliest we could expect a new HC and/or GM? I hope the whole building is cleared. New coaches, new GM, new scouts. The whole deal. Tepper, don't you know the rule? Always have a fall guy. Don't take the heat for yourself get a team president and let him get jeered while the team builds itself back up! Then take all the praise when its finally right! -

Sounds like it was a poo offense that did a rookie QB no favors. Hopefully Tepper see's that we need a little traditional staff building this time. We tried giving Rhule the keys to the franchise and be brought in all him bum friends. We tried to have Frank bring in different thought processes from around the league and meld them together. I like the "diversity in thought" idea on its face, and I do think it would have worked if we had a different head coach who wasn't so soft. -
If you were GM, how would you use our that first pick in round 2?
PanthersGTI replied to SCO96's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't know how realistic it is but QB if our team has one ranked as a starter/potential franchise guy. If not it has to be the best linemen available O preferably but D would work too. Build the lines and things will start to fall into place. A good question would be : If there is a top ranked QB the team thinks is the guy that falls to late 1st round do you dare move up? Note : This is all under the assumption that I/We are comfortable with the decision makers next year ( Lets just say Ben Johnson and the GM from the 49ers ). -
I hope so, results have been bad so far. I'm not really sure where the disconnect between the drafting and signing of players and them not working in our ( at least offensive ) scheme comes from but it needs to be rooted out. Coaching sucks we know that, they are gone. Scouting and drafting also suck, they should be gone but we will see. I think Fitts analytic leaning process need to be funneled through a true GM who is more pure football. It's always been that way with football....it just isn't baseball. Its a gladiator sport and numbers cannot tell the whole story on a player period.

I am willing to give Bryce until about a quarter through next season before making a final judgement. This year we all see that the team and staff around him are not working and we see he has some flaws that could become his undoing. Let's see what a off season and a new staff can do. By October next year we will know if he is the guy or not, can't do anything but wait until then.
-
I just hope this is rock bottom. I don't see how it can get any worse then this no matter who is here next year. I guess the defense is going to get worse once Burns is gone. A note : I don't think any of these firings were bad ( I don't know anything about soccer ). Rivera had to go, he still isn't a winning coach. Rhule sucked and Reich did too. I am glad he got rid of Reich early rather then see himself prove he isn't a good HC again next year.

If I see that MFer I'll tell him straight up. You want the fans and the locker room hyped and behind the team? Greg Olsen is that dude.
-
That's what I'm saying! We need a leader after all these plain toast HC we've had. Team is SOFT, directionless. We need the guy everyone wants to play for period. We need someone who is looked at as the man in the building. I bet you he would have an OC and DC who knew what they were doing. None one would be playing soft. AND he's one of our own? Who knows exactly what keep pounding means in the building and to the fans?
-
He is a crazy SOB, but maybe that's what we need.
-
No thanks, I want to be able to root for this team.
-
Friday got me feeling hype. I'M ALL IN ON THE OLSEN TRAIN! Calling it now, that's my HC!
-
Bring him in for an interview at least. Greg knows what he's about, he knows football. Coaches son, undisputed leader. He is smart enough to surround himself with the right people, and I believe Olsen definitely knows the right people. I'd be all in! F U C K IT!

RB Coach Duce Staley and QB Coach Josh McCown fired

Do you think Norv was down there coaching Cam on his mechanics on the day to day? That was the QB coach.....you are being obtuse for no reason. Do you think all 32 NFL teams hire QB coaches for no reason when they have an OC? -
I feel that... I wouldn't call that sabotage though. That implies he did it with malicious intent. I just think he's not that good of an OC and has no flexibility. He fuged it up but he didn't sabotage it.

RB Coach Duce Staley and QB Coach Josh McCown fired
PanthersGTI replied to jamos14's topic in Carolina Panthers
Right.....my point still stands. They finally decided to do some actually QB coaching with Cam and it made a huge difference. It was just too late, his should was a big hit away from blowing up. Like what are you not understanding here? Which brings us back to the original point.....QB coaches do matter and make a difference. Which you seemed to disagree with. -
There is no proof anywhere that Young wasn't the consensus #1. Anything posted about that is pure speculation. Plus that is stupid, Reich would know sabotaging Young would sabotage his job here.

I brought Cam up. 100% it was known that they really just let Cam be Cam. Which was amazing, I love the dude. Me a literal grown man who had tears in his eyes after Cam came back and scored in Arizona a few years ago. So none of this is diminishing Cam. If everyone remembers he actually got some coaching on his mechanics and fundamentals before the 2018 season. This was the first time they tried actually using the QB coach with Cam and not just having it be his buddy. I believe it was a shorter, tighter throwing motion and really working on setting his feet. That was right before his best career completion percentage and I think he was like 15-2 TD/INT. It 100% made him a better QB and he was on pace to have his best "traditional" QB season until his shoulder gave out. I remember the details homie, I ain't talking bullshit here. No one is trying to trash Cam. Ron Rivera and his staff did not want to challenge Cam at all on his mechanics until the older Turner came in and they actually worked with him to improve. Cam Newton is the proof in the pudding that you need a good QB coach to get the most out of your QB. Someone has to guide them and correct them. -
100% those guys need to be simpatico. We need 2 fresh pair of eyes that can evaluate this mess and have no ties to anything before it. Correct me if I'm wrong, the GM usually brings in the HC ( with owner input ), so why have we been shying away from that? There is too much corporate America through patterns floating around BOA.
