Joe Person: Panthers really like Mason Graham and Jalon Walker
frankw replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Walker has been overhyped to an extent but it's long been an expectation it takes 1-2 seasons for many of these young edge rushers to develop. He was overdrafted though. -
We did not draft 5 foot 9 and a half Bryce Young to win games with his legs. We drafted him for his arm talent and ability to process on the field both of which were hyped immensely. Full stop. To be clear 3 passing touchdowns is impressive and I've said as much and complimented him on his progress from and this is not hyperbole one of the worst QB's in the league at one point. The issue is it's one game and it has only been replicated one other time. And the other issue is even in games like this where his scoring output goes up his yardage is still low. That paired with the subject of his lack of 300 yard games and otherwise lack of 2 or more TD's games creates a conversation of sustainability and what is a realistic expectation for him as the "norm" going forward. And for right now Bryce Young scoring 2 rushing touchdowns in a single game when he only had 6 total rushing touchdowns in 14 games last year only exacerbates the need for that question to be asked. It is unfortunately very real and certainly something to consider. And just for clarity sake for comparison last year in a losing outing against the Rams Josh Allen threw for 3 touchdowns and rushed for 3 more scores. He accumulated a total of 424 yards. In regulation. Bryce Young's herculean coming out game as some here would describe only accumulated a combined 275 yards while going to overtime. And to be abundantly clear since you are choosing to take potshots at me about Stroud which only serves to aid you in portraying me as a hater. I did not bring him up here. I only responded to a conversation that occurred. As always. As I've said. I want Bryce to be the guy here. I don't want another reset where we have to wait 2 or 3 more seasons to see if a new guy is "him". If and when Bryce strings together multiple elite passing performances this upcoming season to cement himself at least as a top 12 QB then I will give praise where it is due 100%. But that is the bar or at least it should be. We've invested immensely in this offense and in him.

2 rushing touchdowns in the red zone both runs combined netted 12 yards. That isn't going to happen every game. We'll be lucky if he has 10 rushing touchdowns on the season. And even then. When is someone going to lay the wood on him? So basically we're looking at a 3 touchdown performance where it took going to overtime for him to hit 250 passing yards. Doesn’t he have only one single game with over 300 passing yards across 28 starts? And he's thrown for more than two TD's only twice? Again. The overcompensating is unnecessary. You can accuse people of having an agenda all you want. Reality is not an agenda bud.

The overcompensating for mid is stale. Give us some elite passing performances to fap over already.

Joe Person: Panthers really like Mason Graham and Jalon Walker

So Hunt who is one of the best at what he does put a rookie on his ass like it was nothing? And people are surprised? Every young guy gets that welcome to the NFL moment. Graham better take it to heart. -
If the statement bothers some folks so bad it's because it hits a little too close to the vest I guess. We've certainly lowered standards here about as far as we can. And if someone wants to come at me and claim we haven't well there's months and months of posts saying otherwise. Walker is a UDFA afterthought. Doesn't change the facts of that performance. And as such our #1 pick with all the pieces we have around him now should put up multiple games next season that smoke that one from PJ. At least that should be the expectation. Maybe some people are just happy he can hit 200 passing yards in a game. That ain't it.
-
Unrustle your jimmies sir. You don't have to like it. But that is no doubt one of the best passing performances we've seen in many years. Even had bum ass Terrace Marshall at almost 100 receiving yards.
-
I wasn't aware this was in the works from the team. That was nice. I hope they plan on getting Cam involved though. Doesn't seem right otherwise.
-
Considering our depth. Certainly kick the tires.
-
I mean. If I'm being honest. If we're talking a Panthers QB against the Falcons. PJ Walker had the more impressive game against them amongst anyone not named Cam Newton over the last decade. And that was in week 8. Not the last game of the season with nothing to play for.
-
There's plenty of really bad picks in the top ten going back to y2k.
-
He had 251 passing yards. 3 passing touchdowns and 2 rushing touchdowns. All in all a very impressive game. Problem is I do not envision his rushing ability translating like that over the course of the upcoming season. Yeah it will be something to account for from time to time but one it's not sustainable and two you don't want to put his durability to the ultimate test against a motivated defender willing to take a penalty and a fine. And plus with our backfield. Two 1k yard rushers. That's what they're here for. Then we have a much improved WR room. That means Bryce has to elevate those passing numbers substantially. The fact of the matter is regardless of circumstances it did take him 23 games to surpass Kyle Allen's single season passing yardage from 13 games in 2019. And that is not a high bar by any means. Whatever QB tier Bryce ends up in from here amongst his peers this upcoming season when it's all said and done it will be with his arm.

Media touting tonight as The Shedaur Show

Why are you so focused on a Browns QB anyways? You've spent weeks badmouthing our rookie WR who had yet to play a down in an NFL game then when he finally did and looked good you went completely silent. Odd. -

You of all people talking about someone else glazing a young QB based on a small sample size. -
Jones is not a good QB and a turnover machine but he has made some franchise QB level throws. I've seen some nice throws from Bryce but to pretend like he is head and shoulders a more capable passer than Daniel Jones is not rooted in reality currently. Let's talk turkey not fantasy. Look at Jones completion percentage in his best year. 67%. Bryce is barely 60%. And let's keep this in perspective. Jones has something neither of our top 2 QB's here have. That's a playoff win. I would have to disagree. Is it even possible to underrate someone when they go from amongst the worst of the worst to fringe top 20? I think most people see this for what it is. Bryce has some things he does very well. He's finally displaying the movement in and around the pocket that he showed in college. He has a nice ball in certain scenarios but there are still throws that defenses are waiting to see him make on a consistent basis. That's where the story will change.
-
At this point I've yet to see his prowess in this area come to fruition. We've brought in a lot of players he was high on. Any word on when DJ Johnson is finally turning the corner?
-
Stroud was a simple layup on a lowered hoop. Just walk up and toss it in and go to work. Definition of simplicity. Still failed. Tepper's in a nutshell. The problem with Bryce is even if he establishes himself to be a middle of the pack QB you have to consider if the contract will be worth it looking at other teams that have made similar decisions and regretted it like the Giants with Daniel Jones for example. The worst thing we could do is ink him to a huge contract extension for showing just enough improvement for the front office to justify.
-
The QB comparisons have long been a beaten horse. Guys were making outrageous and baffling comparisons before we drafted him putting him in conversations with the greatest athletes of any generation. The hype was to me a huge bubble just waiting to burst. If Bryce is going to take the necessary steps to move on to the next level he is going to have to establish a consistent and accurate deep ball. There is no becoming a franchise QB in this league without that. And if it doesn't happen then defenses are just going to play him the way they have and he will eventually hit a wall again. Because everything is on tape. But with the receivers and the backfield we have in place this offense is more than adequate enough for him to bring it to fruition and at least become a top 15 QB. Hopefully he does.
-
Renfro at this point has to prove he can even make it onto the field and then the question is how long will he be healthy. I get people like him and he's a local story but honestly the longer this injury with him drags out the less likely I see him sticking. XL possesses legitimate talent to be at least a very solid 2 IMO but we are rapidly approaching the point where he needs to string together some consistent games of high end production. It has to happen soon. Coker however has emerged as a significantly reliable target and he has developed a clear rapport with the starting QB. He isn't going anywhere. And he will assuredly be active on gamedays. We would be absolute clowns to not keep him and find out what his ceiling is.
-
I like Corbett but I will be shocked if he's not banged up by October.
-
Well I am officially getting concerned about the OL heading into the season. Several guys nursing injuries. And Brown/Horn two of our most expensive defensive pieces already limited or not practicing. I know it's early. I'm just saying. Not exactly what you to see all around if you're a Panthers fan who has long endured things like this as a yearly ritual seemingly.

Other than one offensive drive you didn't miss much.

We need to sweep the Saints this year.

Evero?!?! Should he be on the Hot Seat
frankw replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
Idk if you want to use the term hot seat but without a doubt he is out of excuses regardless of what transpires this season. His defense needs to be at least middle of the pack and we need to see better situational playcalling. If not it's time to move on. -
As of right now TBD. We'll get three more series from the starters next Saturday.
