  1. He was drafted in the first round pick 11. He was supposed to be good. I chose to write this post because of the size and draft position similarities as well as their evaluations and characters. I think that because they are both smaller and drafted 3rd round and both were the 4th qbs taken makes it more interesting.
  2. Loved the Jordon Gross part especially. I still don't recognize him until they introduce him.
  3. Me neither. I'm cautiously optimistic but I'm waiting before making any judgements but I did notice similarities with Montana and I remembered he was drafted later too. When I double checked I saw that they were almost the same pick and both were the 4th QB taken and they were almost the same size. When I saw that I thought I had to write something up and talk about something new. I hear people talk about Brady and Wilson being the exceptions but nobody ever mentions Montana so I thought it might be something people didn't generally know. It was a long time ago. I remember him but many folks here weren't born yet.
  4. Matt Coral is a 6'2", 212 lb. QB drafted in the 3rd round (pick 94th, 4th QB) by our beloved Carolina Panthers. Most of us will think of another 3rd round QB who did pretty well and has a connection to our super star GM, Mr. Fitty. But some of you may not know that he actually has more in common with another 3rd QB who did pretty well. I'm talking about the Old GOAT, before Brady, no other than Joe Montana. That's right, Joe Montana was a 3rd round pick too. Joe Montana was 6'2", 200 lb. QB taken in 1979 in the 3rd round (pick 82nd, 4th QB) by the 49ers. Scouting Report: Before the 1979 draft, one scouting combine rated Montana a 6½ (out of 9). The report said: "He can thread the needle, but usually goes with his primary receiver and forces the ball to him even when he's in a crowd. He's a gutty, gambling, cocky type. Doesn't have great tools, but could eventually start." Doesn't this sound a lot like someone else we've all heard of? Matt Corral Strengths Natural throwing talent. Accurate to all areas of the field. Aggressive in attacking defenses deep. But the similarities don't stop there. Joe Montana became the Old GOAT because he was the perfect QB to run Walsh's new West Coast Offense. Our OC McAdoo also runs a West Coast Offense. It's been reported that Corral was McAdoo's guy. Does he see a little of Montana in Corral? They are quite similar in many ways. Same size. Both are extremely accurate with quick decision making and releases. Both are confident and willing to throw the ball. Is Matt Corral the next Joe Montana? Probably not. Could he be the perfect QB to run McAdoo's offense? It's quite possible. Maybe he won't be the next Joe Montana but maybe he can be the first Matt Corral and hopefully write a pretty good story for himself and our beloved Carolina Panthers as well.
  5. Didn't we sign 2 LBs to fill the space until we can properly address the positions? Wilson and Littleton? They should at least be better than what we had last season, no?
  6. I have long believed this to be the case. There's no way Shanahan wanted to trade away that much for Lance. I also think it was supposed to be Jones.
  7. Wow, we're much more positive than I expected.
  8. If you read what they wrote they explain that this isn't a rating it's just the results of a test they did using a formula based on where the players was drafted compared to where he had them rated. In that comparison the Panthers did very well and killed it. All picks but 4 added value but picks 2, 5, 6 scored big with our last pick scoring the highest. He had him as a 4th and we got him in the 7th. They also add Corral as a late 1st and we got him in the late 3rd. He also says Ikey, while drafted where they had him, filled such a huge need for Carolina that the pic had extra value to the team.
  9. I haven't seen anyone else bring this up yet so I will. Everyone knows about Russel Wilson going in the 3rd round and being great but most forget that he wasn't the first, nor the best to do it. That would be Joe. No, not Namath but Montana. In the 1979 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers selected Montana at the end of the third round with the 82nd (Corral was 94th)overall pick. Montana was the fourth quarterback taken (same as Corral), behind Thompson, Phil Simms, and Steve Fuller, all selected in the first round. He also was brought in to run the original WCO and didn't have they hype nor best skill set ever but he did have certain skills which worked very well within the system he was drafted to play in. While never being the most talented QB in the league, he was the most successful behind Brady and on par with Bradshaw. He was also 6-2, 200lb. Now I'm not suggesting Corral is the next Montana but there is no reason to believe that his skill set isn't perfect for McAdoo's system and the WCO in general.
  10. I thought about this too. I think teams were more than willing to take 1 or 2 of these QBs earlier than they did when it became clear that they didn't have to. This draft was unique in that teams weren't forced to pick a QB too early and so they didn't. If we went QB at 6 then I think the other QBs would have went earlier than they did. It's the domino effect.
  11. I thought the NY team was called the Giants. I can't remember another one for the last 50+ years.
  12. Spend a little for a returner, keep the rest for an emergency, roll as much as possible over to next year. No reason to waste any of it for a famous vet on their way down in production.
  13. I don't see this as a negative thing. I got suspended for fighting in H.S. too. I'm not proud of it but I did it and I learned from it and it's a part of who I am today. Just one of life's experiences. By all accounts he got his act together and grew up. He has character. I like that.
  14. This. I've been saying much the same thing for months now and even said something very similar today in another thread. Everyone also seems to forget about Covid and all of the restrictions that went along with that. I don't mean it as an excuse for last season. It was terrible but it is a reality. I agree with you that Rhule has at least 2 if not 3 seasons to prove himself whether people like it or not. This was a complete rebuild and the team is coming along nicely. Fitty was a great addition and with his vision I think we are on the verge of something good in Carolina.
  15. What does a Pro Personnel Director do exactly? I really have no idea about these types of positions.
  16. I believe S Drew Hartlaub is a return specialist.
  17. No reason to be sorry at all brother. I'm not emotionally invested in Rhule even if he's in my name. I just thought it was a clever name at the time. I still don't think he's on a hot seat though. I do think it's warm which is why we've seen him take a step back this off season. Also, I'm sure they are aware that he's not very popular at the moment among the fans so there is that to consider. But I'm also expecting us to look much better this year compared to last season. Last season was a disaster, it's true but everyone forgets that we were all mostly quite pleased after season 1 all things considered. Bringing in a totally new offensive staff was a good call and I love who we brought in. Coupled with the new additions to the OL I think we're going to be fine. Which means Rhule will be fine as well. I also still believe the Tepper is just patient. He is a hedge fund guy after all and a very successful one at that. That requires patience or you buy and sell to soon and profit less.
  18. Is ours? I know it's a popular opinion but I'm not convinced that it's a correct one. I'm not saying that it should or shouldn't be correct only the Tepper had so far demonstrated a lot of patience since buying this team. He spent 2 years getting the financial side in order as he put it while keeping the old regime and even then kept Hurney 1 more year.
  19. Yeah you were right. I like things like that. Of course it's about the players but trends are real. I find it interesting that OL, LB and TE are tops in the first 3 rounds and RBs are higher risk in every round. That's probably why teams wait till later rounds to draft RBs now.
  20. The NFL may need to really start considering a Tweeter policy. This is getting ridiculous. Every week it's something now.
