I'm hoping for that UGA TE or Luke Musgrave at 39. Or we could flip that and go free agent TE: Mike Gesicki, Dalton Schultz, Austin Hooper, Robert Tonyan, Hayden Hurst, and then WR at 39 (Josh Downs, Odunze, JSN, Hyatt or Rashee Rice).

We can't afford to lose any more draft picks. Better to go after a free agent. Jakobi Meyers, JuJu, Allen Lazzard, or Darius Slayton please.

Confused Why Some Seem to Think We Got Fleeced
rebelrouser replied to Daddy_Uncle's topic in Carolina Panthers
We traded two firsts. There were two qb's clearly at the top and then a gap to three and four and there was only one way to get one of them and that was trading to the first pick. Considering that, we did pretty well. Staying at 9 meant no qb. -
CJ played against some of the best defenses in college football. UGA #10, UM #6, PSU #17, Wisconsin #11, Notre Dame #22, Iowa #2. Against the no. 2 defense in the country he was 66.7% with four td's vs. 1 int. Not sure you can call that struggling. He showed up vs. a really good UGA team with 67.6% 4 td's no int's on the biggest stage. And OSU didn't have the arsenal of wr's they had last year. 2022 college football team d I'm impressed.

Confused Why Some Seem to Think We Got Fleeced

I feel like i am one of the more pessimistic fans on here, and I like the trade. It means our staff knows who they want, which brings me a lot of comfort because i'm not sure. There was no guarantee that we would get one of the top four qb's at 9 or that it might be AR if we did. I switched my mind and now think it CJ at 1 not Bryce. Either way we now know we got our qb so let's go get some free agents. -
We are confident in one guy to spend so much for no. 1 and that means Bryce Young. He has an entire year of looking great. The others, even Stroud, had rough patches (and AR had an entire year of rough patches). If you wanted Levis or AR you would trade down to three or lower. I don't mind the price. It's a lot easier to find a wr no. 1 than it is to find a starting qb. Need some quality at wr, te, edge rusher.

If this is true, Tepper does not deserve to ever have a winning football team. We traded this year's round 3 pick to drop down for Corral, and we are going to trade him for nothing? We also gave away CMC to try to make up for picks squandering by the Tepper brain trust. How on earth did this guy get rich? I realize it was something unrelated to football but still.

I don't get the comparison. Josh Allen had woeful completion percentage (56%) while in college similar to what AR had. I get the Carson Wentz comparisons though.

Ryan Poles trying to drive up the cost of the #1 pick
rebelrouser replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
There is no guarantee the first pick will even be a starter in three years let alone the savior for a team. The only thing guaranteed is that you have given away your future picks on a gamble. -
I missed this. You have a source?
-
I agree but Baltimore would just match it and tell Lamar see? No one giving you guaranteed money. Also, even though the media hasn't screamed race, they are screaming collusion, which is their way of implying a bunch of white owners conspiring against a black player. The undertones of these articles are certainly filled with race. I think only two owners are dumb enough to offer a fully guaranteed contract and one already did that with the massage enthusiast and the other is trying to sell the Commandos.

Trading up to five for Stroud or Young or sit at 9 for AR or Levis is what I think we should do. The details of the Seattle contract just came out and they have a pretty good deal w/ Gino so i don't think they want a qb. Raiders are the next shoe to drop. Hope they trade for Mac Jones, but I doubt that rumor is accurate.

Malik Willis was a 4 year starter with college career stats of 62.8%, 8.4 y/a, 48 tds, 18 ints, 152.9 rating. While at Auburn, same conference as AR, he was 78.6%. Also, Willis was dealing w/ different coaches and schemes and while the comp. may not have always been SEC, it was equivalent to his team. AR was a one year starter with college career stats of 54.7%, 7.9 y/a, 24 tds, 15 ints, 133.6 rating. AR stunk up the place at Florida. Trading away your future for such a big risk is foolish. Everyone is going to be heaping praise on him and then he will fall. I changed my mind about Steichen wanting him. That was wishful thinking.
-
And do what, run the wildcat three times? You start him day 1 and you get what Florida got and that's a horrible completion percentage.
-
I'm not so sure about that. Since 1990 (could go back farther i got tired of scrolling) only 3 qb's have gone in the top ten of the draft. Never 4. Levis would be the fourth and set a new record. All qbs drafted
-
I've heard that Texans like Young but after his height questions and the way Stroud threw the ball i would think Stroud is the guy at 2. Steichen is brand new and drafting AR will give him an excuse to suck early. Taking Young and then having him not succeed seems to be the biggest risk for a coach/GM.
-
If we don't trade down, we will be picking Will Levis at 9. We need to get in front of the Raiders and then I think one of Young, Stroud, or AR will drop to us. Hopefully not AR. Of course all this goes out the window if someone trades into the Bears or Cardinals spot.
