Ben Johnson vs Shane Steichen
Bear Hands replied to Sean Payton's Vicodin's topic in Carolina Panthers
I like, may prefer Steichen but Ben Johnson has good fit written all over him with his carolina roots. Both could be great choices -
Stidham has performed really well

I got an awesome idea for our fanbase...

Haven’t really sensed that much, minor reactive contingents. Would be game for some appreciation threads to establish positive narratives about the team though. They showed fight this season midst a lot of turmoil. -
In the grand scheme of things, we fired our coach, were 1-5, traded CMC, and only now in week 17 got eliminated from contention. They played strong to close out the season. The OL, RBs, D Brown, unheralded Haynes, DJ all showed up. Hell, I’d dare to say Tremble showed nice flashes this year. Think we should still consider a full reset with coaching but we’ve got some good pieces in place. This is still most of the staff assembled as a last hoorah by Rhule so there’s retooling needed no matter the path forward. Wilks did well, but we should vet all possibilities.

If you feel there’s THAT many and their opinions are some how a problem for the franchise, then have at it I guess and enjoy your pie. Just seems like a waste of time to tell people off who you don’t think are changing. -

Why generalize and blast everyone? I see plenty of level headedness. Not much different than other fanbases. Why get all bent out of shape on what others are thinking? -

That is a whole book of condescension about fellow fans. -
Yeah his absence with these injuries is becoming a detriment for where we picked him...first overall defensive player in that draft. As much as I like him and fluky as these injuries are, it's becoming a problem

I was rooting for Taylor to show something this year after good flashes last season, but it doesn't look bright.

The letdown is disappointing but it's good for the future
Bear Hands replied to LinvilleGorge's topic in Carolina Panthers
We are shaping up to be pick 7ish. Bears and Cards are likely to be 2 and 3. And Seattle's DEN pick looking like #4. A trade up would leap Indy, Vegas, & ATL. But could be 7 to 2 or 3. That's not a monster leap valuation wise. -

If you're not a Stroud or Young fan, I get it. If you think they're legit, we really should go up in my opinion. Finding a QB catapults this franchise. -

Yep this is for the better. Wilks and Darnold is not a sustainable combination for 2023 -
Well there's that

Michigan is so up and down playcalling wise

Alrighty, this is getting good!

Duggan’s got the wheels but the ball seems so damn heavy when he throws. The field just seems so big when he throws.
-
He has the ability and the physical traits. Accuracy is awesome, can lead and create for his receivers super nicely when things are going right. He simply needs to show he can step up when the structure of that offense breaks down. For me, it's all about how he can show his ability to create when he needs to go off-script. Improvisational skills and strong decisions on the fly are what I hope to see.

I agree Young just passes the eye and gut test. The Texans are a team that could fall for Levis in my opinion. I'm not a fan but Kentucky did him no favors and he'll likely only gain traction from here on out. Bears could win another game and AZ could also be Pick 2 when all is said and done. The highest we can draft is Pick 7 and we really should consider leaping LVR, ATL, IND & SEA for a QB if we're sold on Young. If we end up pick 19, then it's probably a different story but I'm game for a Young trade up if not. Dream scenario: 1-Texans: Levis QB 2-Cards: Carter/Anderson DL 3-Bears: We trade up from Pick 7-10ish and grab Young. Just don't go crazy with the future picks.

What a pass by Young

So the Titans giving up on Malik Willis already?
Bear Hands replied to GoobyPls's topic in Carolina Panthers
Something that was unique with that draft class is how prognosticators and people everywhere online were at the very least expecting both Willis & Pickett to go in the 1st. Teams had been reaching for QBs in recent drafts, analysts and many were expecting that trend to continue. Just look at this insider article supposedly talking to execs and scouts last year: https://www.nfl.com/news/2022-nfl-draft-pro-execs-scouts-coaches-break-down-the-qb-class There were plenty even thinking Corral, Ridder, Howell, & Strong were first rounders. Then the draft comes, and we find out pretty much every team only had Pickett as a R1 grade (if that), I imagine some didn't even have a 1st grade on a single QB. We also traded up to the end of the 3rd for Corral so many teams passed on him for a 3rd time. That type of deviation from predictions was soooo much greater than usual. Especially at the QB spot. It's usually teams having a guy pegged way higher than expected and there's a few reaches a la Daniel Jones. So, the veil of team boards is lifted, these guys are all 3rd rounders and later. They were these perceived potential 1st rounder talents for months on end. That's why I think people are still so high on them compared to guys like Clausen, Grier and LeFors in the past. The reality is they're no different than a 3rd rounder in any other drafts. -

Now that's something I haven't heard in a long time -

Haha thanks. Figured to just finally jump into the convo around these parts. Reddit is annoying and I find it fun to chat prospects more than anything. -

What you'll see with many guys not drafted high, thrusted in early on, that don't click immediately: The only completions they can muster are screens, quick slants and bail outs while scrambling Constantly floating post and seam routes, INTs or incompletions galore Aren't standing tall in the pocket and finding a guy downfield with creation if their life depended on it Have no awareness or pocket presence Happy feet galore The ball just seems heavy, no velocity They somehow visibly shrink and the field seems huge sideline to sideline Some can respond and get better but that's like 28 times out of 30, often, not the case. That's just the reality. We got a guy with the 94th pick in the draft, it's a long shot but you're seeing what happens when you put these guys in. There's a reason mostly every team passed multiple times. The company-- Ryan Mallett, Cody Kessler, Garrett Grayson, Kellen Mond, Nick Foles, Davis Mills, Will Grier, Mason Rudolph, Davis Webb, CJ Beathard, Jacoby Brissett, Sean Mannion, Mike Glennon, Russell Wilson, Kevin O'Connell, Trent Edwards, I think you get the picture. I'd rather set expectations super low with Matt and still keep looking for the best QB possible. -
Not to get too peppy on the Wilks/Darnold train, but even looking at the NFC, what's really there beyond Philly? MIN - Cousins falling apart is a common tale minus random miracles vs. NO SF - Great team & coach but at the end of the day has a rookie 7th Rounder QB DAL - The defense and Dak have both been shaky, not necessarily a power house Who's even left? NYG? GB? SEA? WAS? DET? If we run the table these last two weeks, there's legit reasons to think this is more than a one and done. Would be one weird as hell season, I'll tell you that. If we're in, I can see an argument of us coming out on top of most of these squad minus SF and PHI. Honestly, bring on Dallas if we make it.
