Liked the pick at the time, but this might be bye bye.

Winning on a value chart doesn't matter. It'll matter when we actually start winning on the field.
-
With #5 on the block I would expect us to call and inquire on that but I doubt we'd have the goal of coming away with #5 AND #7.
-
Fug you offers tend to get no response or fug you counters. If you offer me $200k for my $300k house I'm either going to simply ignore it or counter you at $400k.
-
If your old friend called you trying to buy your house for half of it's market value you'd probably be kinda pissed at him for trying to rip you off. Just saying.
-
You're just not getting #5 and #7 for #6 and next year's 1st. The Giants' GM would get ROASTED for that move and he'd deserve it.
-
But specifically that trade. #6 and next year's 1st for #5 and #7? That ain't gonna happen. Future draft picks are generally valued as the last pick in the round so next year's 1st has roughly the same value as the #32 overall pick in this year's draft. You definitely couldn't get #5 and #7 for #6 and #32.
-
Honestly, I agree with that. I think it's just a pretty typical QB class that everyone perceives as weak because it comes the year after a perceived extremely strong QB class.
-
This definitely makes sense for the Giants though if they're sticking with Jones. The Panthers are showing every signs of taking a QB at #6 so everyone later in the draft knows they probably have to leapfrog us to have their pick of the QBs. That makes #5 pretty appealing. I could definitely see a team like the Falcons jumping on that.

This too.

Yeah... no. If I'm Tepper I'm absolutely taking trading next year's 1st off the table for this crew.

Speaking of situations, that's why I'm the odd duck who is actually higher on Howell after this season than I was before. He was in an ideal QB situation before. A perfect WR to highlight his strengths in Brown. A really good underneath receiver in Dazz Newsome who was a 6th round pick last year. Two legit NFL RBs behind him. A good, big possession/red zone target in Beau Corrales. I mean, if you don't look good in that situation you probably just suck. This year, all those guys were gone. One really good receiver emerged in Josh Downs but no one else stepped up and Corrales was injured. Ty Chandler stepped in at RB and did an admirable job but he was still a big step back at RB. The OL just absolutely fell apart. They're the ones who got exposed with all the weapons gone. Meanwhile, Howell showed that he could deal with it. He could get pressured constantly and still stay composed and not get frustrated. Same with receivers not getting open. He showed he could run when he has to. I already knew what he could do in a good situation but he showed me how he could handle a BAD situation. You don't usually get to see both when evaluating a college QB.

There's bias there of course. But I've always tried to be truthful about UNC prospects and not just wear blinders. I told everyone last year that Dyami Brown wasn't nearly as good as the analysts we're going him to be. He was getting potential late 1st round talk. I wasn't surprised in the least when he slipped to the 3rd. That was roughly commensurate with his value IMO. He definitely has skills and field stretching ability, but those hands are wildly inconsistent. I compared him to Ginn. His hands aren't THAT inconsistent, but he's not THAT fast either. Dyami was one of those perfect situation guys. His strength was chasing deep balls and he played in an offense that threw a lot of them and probably had the best deep ball thrower in college football tossing them up.

I like Corral. My rankings go: 1. Howell 2. Corral 3. Willis Those are the only QBs I'd consider drafting in the 1st.

A plan B is never a bad thing. That's why I think Ekwonu is the "safest" if the OT picks. With his run blocking skills and physicality he should make a very good guard if he doesn't pan out at tackle. OTs used to be considered safe picks but they've been anything but safe for the last 20 years or so with lots of busts. Someone's ability to slide inside shouldn't be a primary consideration but it's gotta be factored in IMO.
-
My concern with Neal is that he should be the slam dunk #1 OT. Arguably one of the best OT prospects ever. He checks all the physical boxes. That he's not is a big red flag IMO.
-
Evidently in our talks with the Browns we wanted them to pay a chunk of his salary like we did with Teddy trading him to Denver. That wouldn't be a bad deal to kick the tires. I just think the guy's cockiness is getting in the way and I'm not sure that's fixable. All QBs worth anything walk a fine line between cocky and confident but Baker is on the wrong side of it IMO.
-
Wrong. He's over two years older than Howell. Pickett was born in September 1998, Howell June 2000. * Oh wait, sorry you meant Darnold. Disregard. Honestly, my pro comp is a poor man's Alex Smith. The physical tools are intriguing but then you watch him play and the whole is a lot less than the sum of the parts. Nothing pops in the game. He's just a guy out there.
-
I'm assuming it wouldn't be a young star player. Honestly, it was probably just Sheena throwing mud at the wall.
-
Even if you don't use it you can carry it over.
-
Most of them are. Pickett is the age of a lot of kids coming out of grad school. He always looked very mediocre until he was a lot older and a lot more experienced than his competition. Huge red flag.
-
Mentality wise, there's a comparison to be made there.
-
Agreed. What I like about Howell is what can't be measured. The guy is always even keel and doesn't get rattled or discouraged. He does whatever he has to do to give his team a chance. He almost never ran before this year. He turned into a runner this year out of necessity. Howell just find a way to get it done. No, he might not always win but you oftentimes find yourself watching a UNC game and realizing... damn, without this Howell dude UNC would just be getting blasted.

Burrow was running for his life last year. Still went to the SB.
