Sure, it happens some. But watch basketball in comparison. A defender is brushed by a driving offensive player and they act like they got hit by a freight train. Drive and flail has become an actual offensive strategy. Just drive to the basket and if anyone attempts to defend just flail like you got hit by a taser and shoot FTs. It's complete bullshit.

It's not a Hornets issue it's what's happened to the game. The soccer-style flopping is just out of control. Hell, if I wasn't such a huge UNC fan I'd be done with basketball altogether. I very rarely watch a basketball game that doesn't involve UNC. That's a big change for me. Growing up, basketball was hands down my favorite sport, both as a participant and as a fan. The league's fuged up soft cap and max contract issue further screws up the league. Even if the game hadn't evolved into something I don't particularly care for, I probably wouldn't be much of an NBA fan these days because it basically turned into MLB.

Yep. Definitely looks like a situation for a buyer's market on WRs.

I think it's highly likely they draft a QB at some point. I definitely don't think it's a lock that they draft a QB in the 1st. Now they have options.

Cam very well could be in a place that he's more interested in trying to resurrect his NFL career and compete to win than he is further padding his bank account. Even if he's trying to maximize his earnings, taking a one year prove it deal packed with incentives surrounded by quality talent is probably the best long-term strategy rathet than trying to maximize guaranteed payout this year in a cap restricted environment.
-
That's the first thing that came to mind for me. It honestly looks like they're building a supporting cast of talent to fit Cam's strengths while he's on a "prove it" contract. I'm glad they didn't decide to toss him to the curb after putting him on the field with Arena League caliber offensive weapons.

Even if the Falcons have zero interest in taking a QB at #4, they're smart to at least posture that they're strongly considering it.

Weird day. Added some needed bodies on the OL, but created two unnecessary holes on the DL. I'll reserve judgement until we see what the final roster looks like, but we may be going DL in the draft a lot earlier than most expected.

Oh, I think Brady winning a SB without him might have pissed him off even more than that.

Makes zero sense not to tender him. He's solid depth and if someone signs him they owe you a pick.

Panthers Free Agent Signings Thread

We targeted the mid-level guys we wanted and went and got them, I just hope we prove to be right. But man, this really does reek of classic Hurney "pay a guy like he's decent maybe he'll actually be decent" signings. -

Yikes. I mean, I hope you prove to be wrong but on the surface... you ain't wrong. -
All I'm gonna say is man, how many times did we see literally this same post made over the years about Fox/Hurney and Rivera/Hurney after we signed some dude that proved to be trash?
-
There's also the reality that they may want to help talk up a teammate who hasn't been drafted/paid yet. This already went #3 overall and signed his contract.

Watson only has a cap hit in the $10M range this season for the team that trades for him. -

I like it. We aren't shopping at Tiffany's as Gettleman would say, but were clearly targeting the mid-level guys we want and going and getting them. -

It's about his style of play. He's not a road grader. He's better in space than he is in a scrum. But he might be the ideal type of OL to get out in front of a CMC screen. I expect our offense to get even more spread out and away from power running concepts with CMC back next year. This signing points toward that IMO. -

Good signing. He's a versatile IOL. Pretty sure he's played all three interior OL positions during his NFL career. -
Does what is being asked of him translate to the NFL? If not, do the physical traits allow for the possibility of him to do more? Going back to Herbert last year, honestly what Oregon asked him to do didn't translate to the NFL and that was my big hang up on him, but his physical traits were undeniable. He was every bit the physical specimen that Trevor Lawrence is. Lawrence is the more natural runner, but Herbert had the better arm IMO.

You'd be sour on a newly acquired FA for being good when he was paid to be great too. So would I. Mike Wahle is a great Panthers comp.
-
His new deal still makes him a top 10 paid LG with the guaranteed money and as high as the #3 paid LG if he hits the escalators. He's good, they just paid him to be great on that initial contract.
-
Yep. Like I've been saying, Norwell hasn't been bad he just hasn't lived up to that massive contract the Jags gave him. He's a good OG but he was never the type of OG you entertain making the highest paid at the position.
