Maybe Colbert wasn't retiring and he was being forced out and this was him giving two middle fingers on his way out the door.

Ronald Curry was what made me appreciate the seriousness of that injury. He was the #1 football and basketball recruit in the country. Won the McD AA slam dunk competition. Tore his Achilles and I can't recall him ever dunking a basketball at UNC and while he was still a good he was a shadow of his former self athletically. He still went on to play several years in the NFL but this is the guy who made Michael Vick an afterthought when they were both HS players in the VA tidewater area. It was ultimately Achilles injuries that ended his NFL career. I think he ended up rupturing his Achilles three times.

I forgot about the cornea laceration. That was another basketball injury. Fingernail to the eyeball. College nurse took one glance and was on the phone to the optometrist.

If Darnold wins the starting job it's going to take ALL the air out of this recent bump in optimism. -
Both MCLs torn. Torn meniscus in right knee. Multiple broken ribs. Severe high ankle sprain in right ankle. Torn rotator cuff in right shoulder. Concussion. The ankle was in basketball. The concussion came from mountain biking. Everything else came from snowboarding. Ironically I never had a significant injury playing football.

I just have no idea how anyone could've watched Pickett at the college level and saw a 1st round QB prospect. He's basically a poor man's Teddy Bridgewater. He doesn't have an NFL arm. Why not just draft Kyle Trask last year? You wouldn't have had to have spent a 1st.
-
It's just that everyone already knows the score. Sam is terrible. Corral is a mid-round rookie coming out of a college offense that doesn't yield itself to an immediate transition to the NFL. Baker is likely going to have to flop hard not to be the opening day starter.
-
That's assuming everyone is buying the idea of a legit competition. I honestly doubt that's the case. Everyone on the staff and on the roster probably knows it's Baker's job to lose, so why bother with the theatrics. The factors you're talking about rely on there being a real competition. Everyone knows Sam sucks and Corral likely isn't ready to play early on as a rookie.

I hope the farce doesn't last long. We need to let Baker get all the 1st the reps ASAP

Yeah, you might not wanna back the Brinks truck up for a guy you think you have to force to study. If Murray found it "disrespectful" he should've forced the language out of the contract. Might be a decent chance his agent didn't bother to tell him about that fine print.

Injuries are the worst part of the game. Hate when it happens, even to division rivals.
-
Wait until they actually see Pickett.
-
Basically whichever QB gets the offense to play best will be the starting QB. Makes sense to me. With that said... it's gonna be Baker. Everyone knows it's gonna be Baker.
-
I think the staff probably had him focusing primarily on improving his pass rushing abilities. IMO, we just need to let him be him. Kris Jenkins never got more than 7 sacks on a season. During our '03 SB season he was a 1st team All-Pro with 5 sacks. These types of DTs are never going to put up huge sack numbers but they eat up double teams and blow up the opposing interior OL. Just let Derrick Brown do that.
-
No. He had a promising rookie season then a down sophomore season. That's not a bust. Not yet. Anyone expecting Brown to be Aaron Donald didn't have realistic expectations. That's not the type of player he is. I've always said that the best version of Derrick Brown is basically a clone of prime Kris Jenkins.

I'd prefer we pass. Dude was a beast but injuries have taken their toll.

They were my #1 and #2 QBs in this draft.

ESPN's Strongest Unit for Every NFL Team

I mean, I can see the potential for our secondary to be our best unit but on paper right now? Yeah, it's RB and it's not even close. -

CMC is the best all around RB in the league when healthy and we have two very capable backups. RB is EASILY our best position group. -

Past draft status has (or at least should) have zero impact on current value. I say "should" because I absolutely think we got hoodwinked into trading significantly too much for Darnold because he was a former #3 overall pick. Robby is still a fairly young WR with proven past production and legit field stretching capability. If I'm a WR needy team I'd be willing to trade a mid-late rounder for him and hope that last year's down performance was an anomaly and largely due to being in a poo show of a situation.
