LOL! I think you're a yoga master at this point with the reaching you've done this off-season convincing yourself that he won't be traded. There may not be any fire yet but it's so smoky you can't your hand in front of your face.
-
"Less than $6M" likely means something in the high $5Ms and he's likely to hit some incentives because Deshaun is as good as gone. Gone to us? I'm not sure about that but he's done in Houston.
-
Dangling Teddy in that trade offer was never a realistic option.
-
You know who doesn't pay $6M+ for a backup QB? A team with a young MVP caliber QB. Particularly one with a bunch of other roster holes.
-
Strongest sign yet that Watson is being traded. $12.5M for a pure backup? Nah. He's a stop gap.

Let's just pretend that it is.

Falcons restructure Matt Ryan's contract

Yep and I highly doubt they'd deal with us knowing they'd be handing us a QB. -

Virtually guaranteed not to now. At least not at #4. -
Jamie Newman not taking part in Georgia's Pro Day
LinvilleGorge replied to Mr. Scot's topic in 2025 NFL Draft
Truth. It wouldn't shock me if he goes undrafted. -
No doubt about that. I understand it from the NFL's perspective. Football is a brutal sport even with the rules emphasizing player protection. All of the acting in basketball detracts from the game IMO and makes it difficult to officiate (coming from a former basketball ref). When you have guys comically flopping and flailing all over the place, it makes it kind of desensitizes you to make it harder to recognize fouls where the player is actually trying to play through the illegal contact.

Panthers lose TE Chris Manhertz
LinvilleGorge replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Thank goodness. Forces us to look elsewhere. -
Sure, it happens some. But watch basketball in comparison. A defender is brushed by a driving offensive player and they act like they got hit by a freight train. Drive and flail has become an actual offensive strategy. Just drive to the basket and if anyone attempts to defend just flail like you got hit by a taser and shoot FTs. It's complete bullshit.

It's not a Hornets issue it's what's happened to the game. The soccer-style flopping is just out of control. Hell, if I wasn't such a huge UNC fan I'd be done with basketball altogether. I very rarely watch a basketball game that doesn't involve UNC. That's a big change for me. Growing up, basketball was hands down my favorite sport, both as a participant and as a fan. The league's fuged up soft cap and max contract issue further screws up the league. Even if the game hadn't evolved into something I don't particularly care for, I probably wouldn't be much of an NBA fan these days because it basically turned into MLB.

Yep. Definitely looks like a situation for a buyer's market on WRs.
-
I think it's highly likely they draft a QB at some point. I definitely don't think it's a lock that they draft a QB in the 1st. Now they have options.

Cam very well could be in a place that he's more interested in trying to resurrect his NFL career and compete to win than he is further padding his bank account. Even if he's trying to maximize his earnings, taking a one year prove it deal packed with incentives surrounded by quality talent is probably the best long-term strategy rathet than trying to maximize guaranteed payout this year in a cap restricted environment.
-
That's the first thing that came to mind for me. It honestly looks like they're building a supporting cast of talent to fit Cam's strengths while he's on a "prove it" contract. I'm glad they didn't decide to toss him to the curb after putting him on the field with Arena League caliber offensive weapons.

Even if the Falcons have zero interest in taking a QB at #4, they're smart to at least posture that they're strongly considering it.

Weird day. Added some needed bodies on the OL, but created two unnecessary holes on the DL. I'll reserve judgement until we see what the final roster looks like, but we may be going DL in the draft a lot earlier than most expected.
