Horn looks like a stud, but the guy has only played in 16 of a possible 33 games so far in his career and Jackson is trying to come back from an injury that has pretty much ended careers of significantly better players, so yeah...

I honestly don't think Carr was ever high on the priority list. It was more one of those things that if the market for him had turned out way softer than he and most others thought it would be then maybe we'd revisit that possibility. With the staff we've assembled it looks like plan A was always the draft. This is the type of offensive coaching staff you build when your primary plan is to draft and develop a rookie QB.

Yep. The guy just isn't an OC. I do credit him for helping Cam transition to the NFL but I can't help but wonder what we could've gotten out of Cam if we'd had a guy like Norv Turner take over and Chudzinski was hired away by the Browns.

I honestly don't think it's that simple. There's a reason why Mike Shula has never had another OC opportunity. The guy simply could not adjust on the fly at all. Cam in his prime floated that turd as a play caller and I think the NFL at large knows this.

It's hard to be a leader when everyone can see that you shouldn't even be in the NFL... and won't be for long.

I can't recall ever hearing anything negative about Clausen in that regard while he was here. Seemed like a guy who did everything the coaches asked him to do and simply wasn't good enough. I don't recall him ever being a prick. Wilson has way more talent but the guy is an entitled prick.

Rivers was the #4 pick though, not #2.

This kinda terrifies me. For a guy who was a former QB himself, it seems like Orlovsky is pretty much always wrong about QB prospects.

Because he's likely to be a high first round pick and make millions of dollars. Come back next year and not make a significant leap and it would significantly hurt his stock. Come back next year and suffer a significant injury and it might tank his stock. When millions of dollars are on the table, cash the check.

If he looked good enough to fetch a 3rd we should keep him.

If the coaching staff checks out his college tape and thinks that he'll make a good backup, sure. If not, no. It sure seems like he's even less than an afterthought though. Sure seems like they've looked at the tape and pretty much decided he's simply not part of the plans moving forward.

Every draft pick is a roll of the dice. The idea of a "can't miss prospect" is a total myth. There's always going to be some significant uncertainty when you're projecting a guy to the next level of competition. A lot of 5 star recruits fail to pan out in college. A lot of NBA lottery picks bust. A lot of NFL 1st round picks bust. It's just the way it is. There are no sure things.

It'd be pretty shitty of Belichick to just scapegoat the guy since he literally had a career defensive coach operating as an OC. I mean, would you cut a TE because he sucked at LB? Well, Bill Belichick probably would.

It's more like 75-80% nickel in today's NFL.
