Official Sound off like you got a pair Panthers Draft predictions thread
MHS831 replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
1. Young QB 2. (39) Tuli Tuipulotu Edge 3. (93) Corey Trice CB 4. (114) Tyler Steen, OT 4. (132) Chandler Zavala OG 5. (145) Charles Jones, WR -
For whatever reason, CB is a need and Fitterer has been remarkably quiet about it in free agency. Too Quiet. I think they know the draft is loaded at CB and he did not like the free agents. (usually when I post something like this, an hour later there is an announcement that we signed a CB).

that last post was just a joke--mocking those of us who think it is not going to be Young.

Well heck. Sure sounds like we are going with Hooker.

I think Houston would have to give up the #12 overall or a 2024 first. I still do not think we trade. By the way, if you consider the fact that only about 33% of all draft picks become effective starters. This article is one that sticks in my head when I consider trades that involve mid round draft picks: Five years ago I did a piece detailing how most draft picks are busts, based on a study of 1996-2016 draft picks. The results, which are based on the Pro Football Reference AV metric, are sobering: 16.7% didn’t play for the team that drafted them 37% were considered useless. They either didn’t play much or didn’t make the team. 15.3% were considered poor. Had limited playing time and didn’t do well in the time they had. 10.5% were considered average. These are mediocre players that had starts or significant contributions over 2-3 years. 12.3% were considered good. These could be mediocre or average players that were multi-year starters, Pat Elflein or Christian Ponder for example, or perhaps some genuinely good players that didn’t last all that long for the team that drafted them- Sidney Rice for example. This is where the AV metric can over-rate a player based on the number of starts, rather than their performance while on the field. 6.9% were considered Great. This category is the first that includes undeniably good draft picks. In order to be considered great, they would’ve had to play for the team that drafted them into a second contract, and also performed well over those years. 1% were considered legendary. These are future Hall of Famers, multi-year All-Pros among the best in the league for most of their relatively long careers. And so only about 8% of draft picks are players that really make much of a difference beyond replacement value, and only about 30% see much playing time or make a significant contribution to the team. https://www.dailynorseman.com/2022/4/26/23042105/nfl-draft-pick-bust-rate-remains-very-high

I saw it on NFL network. It only showed about 30 seconds, so there is that too.

He said that he wanted to tell his side. However, if you are interviewing a player involved in this horrible event sitting on his couch before the draft, the issue is character. His agent on the couch was not there for cosmetics--he knows he has a delicate situation and did not want his client to be compromised by a reporter--but the risk of his character being damaged was real and the comment Shocker makes is a fair one. However, I can say that any comment he makes could probably be used against him--so any good lawyer would advise him to not discuss the victims. You have to imagine the tape being played in court--"I feel so badly for the people who died." The jury could equate that with guilt or responsibility--I have not been keeping up with the details, so I am just speculating.

The talk was Atlanta at #8, but I imagine there was more press than here about this situation there.

CJ Henderson and Keith Taylor in Evero’s defense
MHS831 replied to Wundrbread33's topic in Carolina Panthers
The more I read this thread, the more I think, 39 has to be for a CB. Serviceable edge players could be there at 93. Do not put it past Fitmagic to move back in round 2 and up in round 3--he is crazy that way. -

They say he should be ready to go by August, but those Achilles injuries take a year to fully recover. -

Ok, read it. Here is what I know, which is very generic and limited--anxious to read people with more knowledge. The 3-4 will feature a lot of zone in cover 2 and 4. I think zone suits Henderson, but Taylor's cushion last year would have been a par 4 on a golf course. That is all. -

Now you are talkin!!! A good thread topic--have not read your points yet, but this needs to be discussed in depth. Nice thinking. -
I am getting mixed signals--here at work, they tell me to start doing it. They say, "those fries are still done, MHS." stuff like that. Hurts my feelings.

Betting odds and QB landing spots after is
MHS831 replied to panther4life's topic in Carolina Panthers
If I am Houston, and I don't love Stroud, I am taking Will Anderson because he seems like a great player AND a great person. Saw some interviews and I think he is great. Houston still has the #12 pick and enough draft capital to move back up. At 12, I feel a QB will fall to them, if they are willing to take Levis. If they want AR, I am guessing the Cardinals might want to move back again, assuming the Colts traded up with them-Houston could move back up to #4 and get AR. In other words, the Texans are sitting in a good place right now if they are not in love with Stroud. -

I expect there to be so much trading in the top 10, it is difficult to know what team will be picking at what spot. -

My policy? Never have a running back on a second contract. I can say that I literally have never had a running back on a second contract in my life, so there's that. treat RBs like college players--4 years and you are done. I can't find the stats, but if you look at the data, second contracts hardly ever pay out in the NFL for RBs.

I need to pay better attention. I tried doing my job today, and it looks like I missed something. Oh well, the light will reach me soon enough. At least I still have an account. My problem is, I don't pay much attention to the names unless they are the old timers--
