  1. This week will be a real litmus test. Rivera knows Cam better than anyone and what he can or cant do. He will devise a defensive scheme to account for Cam. Lets see how Cam mixes it up and uses our better personnel to score. If he dismantles Washington on Sunday he will make believers out of his skeptics.
  2. You have to be kidding me. We used to have actual football conversations where we talked scheme and coverages and anyone who knows anything about the Erhart Perkins system thinks automatically about New England given Charlie Weitz brought it there and is the example often cited as an NFL team who has been very successful for the past 20 years. You obviously confuse offense and defense talking about changing to fit the personnel. NE is known to move players around and go with a 4-3 or 3-4 depending on personnel on defense. The offense has always been the same with Brady and is the primary reason that Mac is there now. It requires a decent run game but a very good passing attack with accurate on time passing. They adapted things to let Cam run more but it was the same system. Hopefully Cam learned some things from Belichick that he can apply here.
  3. First of all Cam ran more for NE last year than he did in 2015 and missed a game for Covid not injury. In fact it was his second highest total in his career. Second of course you scheme for the quarterback as well as the team. If Cam has trouble with timing on 3 step drops you can start him in the shotgun to avoid the issue. Or limit that route selection in favor of what he does well. If Cam throws a flat ball you may limit how many throws he makes on button hooks over the middle when it can be tipped more easily. Maybe you focus on seam routes which he throws great or out routes but not 20 yarders given that gives the defense more time to defend the pass. You dont change the offense but you change the play selection and play calling based on what your guy can do. Brady said as much himself. He works with whoever the starter is to find out what plays they are most comfortable with and you build your gameplan around that.
  4. So you dont know what they ran but it wasnt Erhart Perkins. Wow do you understand how stupid that sounds. Clearly you dont understand much about schemes as seem to be confusing play calling and scheme which are not the same. Why not stick to what you know.
  5. He misses from 40 to 50 most often. Plus some extra points which is why we moved on from him.
  6. Actually blitzing Cam is what most teams do and he struggles against pressure.
  7. I know he has done okay. Our guy has made 13 straight. Including a 57 yarder. Gonzales is having his best year ever.
  8. Yeah that is why I mentioned our field goal kicker. Slye will be good for a miss or two.
  9. While the NFL is a copycat league and all playbooks have some kind of RPO for example they are constructed or schemed usually under a larger scheme with basic core concepts. Like WCO used short timing passes thrown to a spot often as the receiver is making a cut and uses yac to gain yards. Verbiage is an issue but with wristbands it isnt that tough although we wont have Greg Olsen to help Cam get it right.
  10. Then again if you can't move him and are paying 18 million already it makes little sense to cut him unless you dont think he deserves an inactive roster spot.
  11. Honestly he looked the same or maybe we are tryin trying to limit contact. We didnt run him much between the tackles at all. Maybe it was me but I thought he might be a little slower and didnt have the extra accelerator gear. Then again it has been a while since he played.
  12. Who knows with this staff what will happen. On one hand we keep PJ to develop but showed Bridgewater a quick exit. Remember those were Rhule's words not mine. Then again whether he talks guys up or not it doesnt seem to be related to whether they stay or not.
  13. Yes they still run a modified EP system put in by Charlie Weiss and continued by Josh McDaniel. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.dawgsbynature.com/platform/amp/2020/2/24/21140555/two-concepts-in-one-the-erhardt-perkins-playcalling-language What do you think they run??
  14. One thing that I havent seen mentioned is how much we try and fit Cam to the system versus fit the system to what Cam does best. We are running mostly West Coast concepts with quick timing passes and throwing receivers open on crossing routes. Use your running backs like receivers. Last year Cam played for New England and their Erhart Perkins offense which stressed more horizontal passing while with Carolina we ran a lot of a Coryell play action passing and lots of running for a number of years. So what system best fits Cam and how do you adapt our offense to what Cam does best. And will it be hard for Cam to pick things up right away?
  15. I am in the group that thinks we can sign all three. Why not? We will have the cap space next year because year 1 contracts are all cap friendly. It is later years that are the issue. I dont worry about the numbers like some folks do. Why waste my time in conjecture when we have guys who do little else but eat think and breath the salary cap.
  16. This will come down to which defense can impose their will on the other and who has the best field goal kicker. Neither offenses dazzle.
  17. What that Darnold is the answer? So far he isnt and that is obvious. But the question is whether he will still be here next year. Based on contracts it would be yes but then again we dumped Bridgewater and ate a big chunk so we will move on quickly if we dont believe in you so there is that. I want to see what Cam can do and if you dont believe in Santa Claus then how did we land Cam? Of course there is a Santa Claus and in the spirit of the season everyone declared good will to men and came together for this Panthers Christmas and all is right in Pantherland. The end..or just the beginning......
  18. What he said was that Cam was more of a leader in his first year than Brady was toward the end. More of an indictment of Brady and why they split after so long. Brady went from a great leader at the beginning to an ass toward the end from what I have read. I imagine they liked Cam's let be serious but have fun attitude over Brady's tirades and feeling his team didnt deserve him.
  19. Well I guess if you said it, then it must be true. Ok bye.
  20. Exactly. One big question will be his fit in the offense. This is his third offense in as many years. Each different schemes. I know Josh McDaniels changed things around for Cam and Brady said he will find what his QBs are best but this is largely a West Coast scheme. New England runs an Erhart Perkins and Rivera ran a Coryell system. Throwing to spots and being very accurate have never been Cams strengths which is what this offense requires. Hopefully we can make it Cam friendly yet productive.
  21. Of course they are linked in several ways. First of all we need to find a starting QB. So far we have none. If Cam struggles dont assume we couldnt see Darnold again. Thats right. The only one under contract for next year right now is Darnold and his 18 million dollars of guaranteed money. Second Cam is a vet who can help Darnold grow and could be one of the reasons he was brought here. Both PJ and Darnold could use some mentoring. Lastly Darnold was great and then lousy. So he had enough flashes to bring him to camp since he is going to get paid. So yeah I am totally serious and if you think about it for a minute you would see the validity of the argument. You may think the discussion is about dumping Darnold or trading but I dont think that Rhule or Fitterer are there at all. Even if Cam is awesome then they have their backup and the guy potentially down the road. Rhule said he was treating Darnold like a rookie which suggests he had a plan for him beyond dumping him if he struggles.
  22. Resale tickets for sure. Many seats are going for double face value. But it wasnt simply to sell tickets but rather give fans a reason to still want to come to the games. When you lose more at home than you win several years in a row it wears on your fanbase and that included the last several years Cam was here. But it was the best all around move and that includes the best football decision. Tepper has nothing to lose but money and he has plenty to burn. It was a win win.
  23. I think the hammy will be an issue since apparently it is very tight. He uses a roller to stretch it out between series. But he is tough and as long as it doesn't tear he will give it his all. CMC at 75% is still pretty great.
  24. I can see us on that list because we have a great defense, good special teams with a sure field goal kicker. On offense we have Christian, DJ, Robbie and several other players that are skilled. I have said this all season long. We dont need Superman anymore, we need a competent QB who can get the ball to our play makers while making good decisions and retaining the ball. Cam just has to make some plays and distribute the ball. He has more weapons than he has ever had. He doesnt have to carry the team on his back. As long as he does his job and let his team do theirs we could be a tough out the rest of the way.
