Historical statistics really mean nothing if you aren't betting on odds. These are college players and we need a potential left tackle in the draft. If you think Rhule and Fitterer are great talent evaluators then we are good. If they suck, it doesn't matter the odds. We only need one and he can surely be the exception to the rule. Who cares as long as we get our guy.

Let's hope we finally hit on one. Even blind pigs sometimes find a nut. I guess you have to keep swinging until you finally hit a homerun.

Yeah if you can find a starter at this point you have done well. If you find a starter at a position of great need you have started your legacy as a talent evaluator. I would love to tell you I know who it would be but I would be repeating the same names already mentioned. I hope our team does their job and nails it.

Tepper wanted Fields. Let his guys make the football decisions
panthers55 replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think the Jets moved from one QB to another to appease the fans and put the blame on Darnold. If Wilson does better it will be better coaching and better players not that Wilson is more talented than Darnold.. Anyine who watched the Jets at all knows that the offensive scheme was awful and Darnold got little help. He will be much better under Rhule and Brady because he nows has better coaching, a much better scheme and much better players. He doesn't have to be all world to have success here. Distribute the ball and let your players do their job. -
Horn already labeled a Day 1 Starter by the Panthers
panthers55 replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Until he learns that grabbing doesn't work in the NFL he might. But you can't blame him for adhering to the rules in college which allow more. Once he figures it out he will be fine. -
I would love a future left tackle pick here if we can find someone who can lock down the position and be our guy for years to come. LT and shutdown corner in the first 2 rounds? What a huge draft this could be if we take care of 2 huge nagging issues in the first 2 rounds.

Tepper wanted Fields. Let his guys make the football decisions
panthers55 replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Fields made little sense once we got Darnold. For me it was between LT and CB. The best LT was gone but the best CB was there. It wasn't a tough decision once we couldn't get Sewell and no one wanted to give us a bunch to trade down. I'm glad the football folks won this debate. Even if Fields is great he wasn't a great pick for us at this point.- 127 replies

That is the third guy I really liked that I was lining up for the second round that already got picked. Obviously it is past my bedtime. Exit stage left.....

Matt Rhule on Jaycee Horn - Why he is the best fit
panthers55 replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
We did get Bradberry though. The mistake was not getting vets to start and working rookies into the rotation instead of throwing them to the wolves day 1. -
Matt Rhule on Jaycee Horn - Why he is the best fit
panthers55 replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
He is 6'1 and 205 which is big for a fast corner. Couple that with great length and he plays even bigger than he is. -
I like Leatherwood who is an OT from Alabama. Projects well in a quick passing rpo heavy scheme.

Matt Rhule on Jaycee Horn - Why he is the best fit
panthers55 replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
He didn't panic he found the one guy Pitts hated to face. That would be Horn. When Atlanta picked Pitts I said we needed a big corner to compete and put Jackson in the slot. Suddenly the loss of Bradberry has been restored and with Chinn going to safety suddenly we have a potentially great secondary. An absolute necessity in this division and our Achilles heel most years. -
Round 1 - Carolina Panthers Select CB Jaycee Horn
panthers55 replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I hoped this was the pick after Atlanta got Pitts. Who did Pitts say was his toughest match up. Yeah that would be Horn. https://247sports.com/Article/Kyle-Pitts-reveals-toughest-matchup-Jaycee-Horn-Florida-Gators-South-Carolina-Gamecocks--164517672/ -
When Sewell wasn't there and we couldn't get enough to trade back, this was a stellar pick. When Atlanta took Pitts I told my son we need a shutdown corner to compete and put Jackson in the slot. With Chinn moving to safety our secondary is going to be tough. I read that the guy Pitts hating playing against was Horn.

The issue is not whether Darnold sucks or not because that only describes his time with the Jets. The issue is whether in an infinitely better system with much better coaching and talent can he follow the script, play smarter football and learn a new system. Is he quick enough athletically and intellectually to process information and work through progressions and understand defenses and how to defeat them. Does he have the physical skills as well as leadership skills. Can he stand in there and deliver the ball right before the blitzers arrive. For me he checks some of the boxes and has a chance to compete for the starter role and the opportunity to prove his critics right or wrong.

No idea if he will reach his potential with us but I totally agree. He would be better than most if not all the QBs in this draft and he has 3 years of NFL experience. I would much rather ride with Darnold and getting our left tackle of the future plus more draft picks versus picking a project like Lance or Justin.

I said we were going to trade back a few weeks ago and nothing has changed. Rhule wanted to trade back last year but Hurney got Brown. With Fitterer here the possible of a trade back is there whether a QB is available or not. Fields and Lance are far from sure things and Darnold is just as likely to succeed if not more so. Just like we passed on Simmons and got Chinn in the second. We have our QB and see several tackles available if we stay or drop back. Seems this has been the plan once we drafted Darnold despite all the Lance and Fields conversation. I figure once SF gave up the farm for the third pick it became too expensive. Given both the Jets and Jaguars don't seem likely to move it is possible we may have traded back even with the third pick. Obviously would gotten more but let's see how much in the draft.

I agree that Darnold has a lot to prove as well. But if Brady's system is as quarterback friendly as it is supposed to be then that could fix many of the issues he had. Kalil noted that Gase didn't allow Darnold to change plays or make adjustments after the play was called in. So this system will be night and day different. We will see if Darnold can read defenses presnap and make adjustments. It could be like starting all over again from a football knowledge point of view. Hopefully the three years of experience has at least help slow down the game for Darnold. I expect if he starts for us, there will be a big learning curve. Thank goodness for 3 preseason games.

If you really like Fields or Lance more than finding your left tackle for a decade then you pull the trigger. Or if drafting a project is so compelling you ignore the opportunity to move back in the first round and get another first round pick and more and still get your franchise LT then go for it. But I think the pendulum has swung too far in the opposite direction where athleticism now becomes more important than all the skills that have made quarterbacks successful in the NFL for forever. It is like we can teach everything but athleticism despite the reality that doesn't seem to be true.

Temple WR on the Roster - Ventell Bryant
panthers55 replied to SetfreexX's topic in Carolina Panthers
He would give us a taller bigger redzone target with good hands and a possession receiver with decent speed. I like the competition which should elevate everyone's game. -
We went there with the Roaring Riot to London in 2019 when we beat Tampa. Amazing trip and great stadium although I doubt we have plans for a retractable roof like there. With the weather they get you need a roof.

I had heard rumors about the land across the street when the Charlotte Pipe and Foundry moved to Stanley County. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2020/05/12/potential-panthers-stadium-site-cleared-after-factory-moves/

This is Tottenham Stadium from the cheap seats. Assuming I uploaded them properly.
