Trade next years 1st round pick to be get back in to this years 1st round.. IF... QB Malik is still available late in the round. Probably give up a 5th this year and a 3rd next year to get it. Then all positions of real need have been addresses. Then sign a decent DE/DL still available.

Both QBs will get their money. But each with a new team it might help defuse the bad mojo with their current teams. That's all I'm saying. And they can both be FAs next year.

I would take an even trade - Darnold for Mayfield. Darnold gets to back up Watson and they don't have to carry the baggage of a keeping him. Nobody will trade a pick for him. Why not? Not sold on Mayfield but he'll have something to prove.

ELLIS L. WILLIAMS Of the OBSERVER on Jimmy G
musicman replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
I hope they take LT so if it's Jimmy G and Sam battling for the starting job, I'm OK with that. -
the safe pick is LT. If they take a chance on a QB at 6 and it doesn't work, it would set the team back even further. If they take a solid LT, even dropping a couple of slots and get one, they are primed for a QB pick, trade or signing next year to put them over the hump and into the playoffs. That O-line would even make Sam look good this year.

Cost of trading for an additional 1st rounder
musicman replied to Martin's topic in Carolina Panthers
I like this idea. We would have a good team going into next year anyway if this all works out. -
Remember when the Giants drafted Erik Flowers, the huge LT. He became an average guard. I would take Cross and the blind side pass rush is more important then the run game from a LT (IMO). Maybe Neal was better because of his size in college and not pure talent (like Flowers).

PFF's Sam Monson on Panthers free agency
musicman replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
What happens if they still get another solid O-lineman (draft or FA) and with all those weapons, Darnold plays decent as a game manager, along with that defense, and wins 10 games? Would you be mad? -
Watson was not on the same level as R Wilson. Wilson has a SB and a clean image. I can see no players added to the offer.
-
With what money will both teams not be in cap hell this year or soon? Saints may have a better roster but they don't have the coach that put it all together. All has been a mess for years and don't have many good players and giving away picks too. Even though Carmichael called the plays for the Saints, the coach is what drove that team. They'll be good but when will their cap problems come to life?
-
Don't get DW4, draft a LT at 6 or drop down and pick up the Center (Lindenum?)Trade Robbie and get a 3rd or 4th. Sign Mariotta to compete with Sam. Sign Djax. Draft another O-line and D-line guy and lets role. We are NOT winning a SB in 2022 so build for 2023. Draft or sign your QB then. If we show real progress, maybe 9-10 wins (which I hope for), roll with Rhule one more year. If not, you've got a solid good young team, new HC and QB.
-
I'm of the mindset you get Mariotta to compete with Darnold and build a solid team and draft or sign someone next year (after Brady is gone). The cap money we'll have next year would be much better too.

The Panthers have a lot of leaks coming from our staff
musicman replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
Just like last year with SF, everybody thought they were taking Jones or Fields with the #3 pick. They then admitted it was perfect letting the speculation take over from what they wanted. Same thing here. I believe it's a smoke screen and we are not taking Watson. The quieter they are and the more people put out about us getting Watson makes me believe that it's not happening. The Eagles are the only team that can afford it and I wouldn't doubt it we then traded for Jalen Hurts (as he won't stay there with Watson). -
You're right. I should have said why to build a team instead of getting Watson.
-
Watson in 2020 had over 4800 yards passing, 33 Tis, only 7 ints and a passer rating of 63.7 but won only 4 games. He played great but the team stunk. If Rhule feels he's on the hot seat, and with a possible suspension looming along with giving up already good young players, he (and we) truly can't expect 2022 to be a real good season? What happens if Watson is suspended 6 to 8 games? Losing future #1's and some good young players that starting showing signs of being solid players, IMO will weaken this team. If we had all the picks, like the Eagles, then you've got nothing to lose. Your team already went to the playoffs and you're loaded with picks. We don't have that, actually quite opposite. Unless they give up less then everybody's throwing out there, I can't see it being worth it. The safe move is get a great LT if you can't trade back a little and get a few more picks. Horn will elevate the back 7 but they should sign either Gilmore or Jackson. I also don't think losing Reddick will destroy us as Gross-Matos and Haynes are getting better (not fill his shoes) but we shouldn't have a massive drop off with Burns still in there. Brown, Fox, Nixon and even Hopkins. Need 1 good pick up to add to the mix. On offense, get a vet to compete with Darnold (like Jimmy G or Mariotta) but build the O-line through draft and FA. Then in 2023 we can solve our QB problem. Even Mahomes couldn't win the SB (with a loaded team) except having 2 bad tackles cost them the game. Who knows, maybe with a better O-line coach they will be better. I hope but what ever they do, I think Tepper and Rhule have learned a lot and will make better moves moving forward.

Buy (as in sign big name FAs) your way to the Super Bowl. With picks not always working out, is it better to get proven commodiaties?
-
With all the edge rushers in the draft and some being released, and some teams in cap trouble already, he may not get that. That's why, IMO the Panthers want to leave the communication open. If he doesn't get the money he wants, he would probably take lower to stay, even if it's a 2 year deal.

Release Dennis Daley, G 2,540,000 - it will probably happen. Matt Paradis, C (post jun-1) 4,146,668 Limit Hajrullahu, P/K 825,000 - done Cameron Erving, T 2,000,000 - keep as a back up. $9,511,668 Restructure Shaq Thompson, LB 5,190,000 - I would keep him and try, even add a year. Christian McCaffrey, RB 5,673,750 - tough one. I think he has to play out the year so you know what you have in trade value or a franchise player. Taylor Moton, RT 11,373,750 - I can see them doing something Trade Robby Anderson, WR 9,163,332 - Almost impossible. You'd get a 6th or 7th round pick right now. If you just want him gone to clear space, then maybe. CJ Henderson, CB 2,475,108 - Valuable rotational piece as you need at least 4 to 5 good corners. Keep for another year or 2. AJ Bouye, CB 3,479,412 - Takes a cut to stay or trade but it would be a low pick, like a 6th or 7th rounder. Again need corners and we're not resigning both Ajax and Gilmore. Extension DJ Moore, WR 8,064,800 - He's worth the most in a trade (we could get a 1st and 3rd for him) but I would want to keep him.

So far, so good. Decent coach hires and our 1st re-signing.

Barely a .500 college coach who took over 2 programs at the bottom of the barrel and turned them around in 3 years. He may be struggling in the NFL, but it's like a new language, some things take time to learn. I'm not making excuses but looking at it realistically. Injuries are part of the game. Most coaches can't over come them, some do. It just feels like many fans, including you, make it personal. It can't be easy with everyone judging every move you make. Every mistake is magnified. A new coach is another 2 to 3 years of a turn around, if, that's IF he can turn it around. Let's just all shut up, breath and give it a year (which Tepper did already so we can't change that) and then you all can say I told you so to each other if he gets fired in the future. I hope it turns around and we start winning because thats what a loyal fan does. Good or bad roots for the team.

To be fair, he loses Luke - out of no where, the captain and leader on defense and probably the teams best player. The next year, he misses with the FA O-line pick ups (but does fairly good the Defense) but the loss of Horn had a domino effect. Sam was doing OK, when then he loses CMC and Dan Arnold (if Horn doesn't get hurt, we don't trade him), his 2 best pass option when under pressure or more importantly, because when CMC's playing, defenses have to account for him. Anderson had the drops and a terrible year and even DJ Moore dropped a bunch of key passes. Our WRs are telling the coaches the other teams know what we're gonna run so the OC is suspect. Rhule makes some questionable game time decisions. It was a bunch of misses all rolled up into 1 big one. Rhule is getting the right coaches (with experience) and Tepper has patience because it takes longer to start over. He must see something or understand what transpired better than us. Doesn't give Rhule a free pass for ever but he comes from Pittsburgh that had 3 coaches in the last 50 years, or something like that.

I really like this mock draft by Dean Jones...
musicman replied to musicman's topic in 2025 NFL Draft
But I don't see him starting next year. Darnold with a hopefully better line is a step in the right direction. Another draft and maybe, just maybe we are ready to take a major step towards competing for the playoffs. -
https://catcrave.com/2022/02/07/carolina-panthers-7-round-2022-nfl-mock-draft-senior-bowl/ I would take everyone. May switch the Safety before the WR in the back rounds, but supper solid. A QB and 2 strong interior OL guys would be a win IMO. If a QB can't step up and throw it doesn't matter who's at tackle.
-
If we're lucky, we'll trade back just a few spots and get a LT and pick up a late 2nd or 3rd round pick. Then get an O-lineman. I think they need to get a DT in FA. Take a QB is the 4th or 5th if they feel they need to develop someone.
