  1. It's probably different since we didn't draft him. No idea how all that works, tbh.
  2. Yeah, that bridgewater contract was ridiculous...but then hurney was involved.
  3. Yes. Whether Darnold works out or not, we have a foundation laid for a successful team. I also totally believe that it won't take more than one season to figure out if Darnold is the guy, just like it didn't take more than one season to figure out that Teddy wasn't the guy. The biggest mistake with Teddy was the contract we have him, but we have to also remember who was GM at the time. The good thing is that this regime knew when to cut bait and move on to the next one and I have no reason to doubt their ability to move on to the next QB if Darnold isn't the guy. In the meantime, we'll just keep building a better foundation for our franchise QB to get plugged into.
  4. Yes. There are no guarantees (which is what people want), but the truth is that there are no guarantees with anything involved in football. There are no guaranteed results in any personnel or coaching regime, GM, scheme... nothing. It's all a calculated risk (which people also don't want to hear). That said, I think we are set up nicely for success.
  5. I think it's pretty clear that most people with any kind of real knowledge of the situation believe that it's much more likely the situation and especially the coaching that failed Darnold rather than Darnold, himself being the failure. Most of these people also believe that he can still be who he was believed to be when he was drafted and that all he needs is to have better coaching and personnel around him and a system that fits him. I personally think that we have the ideal situation for him and absolutely the best coaching staff you could ask for in helping a young guy willing to do the work reach his potential.
  6. Very balanced and reasonable take on this. We've got a pretty cheap option for a franchise QB. We're rebuilding the team for 'a' franchise QB. If it's not Darnold, then we'll be in better position for the next try. With Darnold, we're getting a still very young QB that we don't have to commit the next 4 years to like we would if we had drafted him in the first round. Plus we got the legit haul we got in the draft. I think we are set up nicely for the future either way.
  7. Lol gotcha. Hard to tell around here anymore. Did a little edit for you.
  8. The only way the saints were able to be relevant for the last decade or so is because of a QB that is no longer playing. It had nothing to do with their "brilliance".
  9. Burris or FA. Probably just Burris, tho. and we will be fine.
  10. I think we win the division.
  11. There will be others to come. More legends in the making.
  12. Yeah...bar is laying on the ground. Shouldn't be too hard to be better.
  13. I think he's much more likely to get things rolling in those situations than teddy. I see a lot of Jake in him.
  14. It absolutely needs to happen. Too many things are left open for refs to make judgement calls. The more decisions we can take out if their hands, the better the game will be. Ball placement should absolutely not be a judgement call. Any remaining judgement calls they make should be challengeable.
  15. These two situations are quite a bit different though.
  16. Just like Rhule said on the Rich Eisen show, "if everyone is thinking the same thing, no one is thinking". They have a culture that allows and even encourages, but also respects a strong difference of opinion. It's ok. Yes, it is/was a gamble, but so is every other decision in the draft. Like Fitt also said, according to Gantt, "trust the board". They went in with a plan and trusted it and adapted it to take care of what they needed to. Basically, it's something that I expect, bit also not something that throws up a red flag about the organization the way it does in Philly.
  17. Part of the thing that has impressed me about Darnold is his scrambling ability, being able to keep the play alive and look for the best opportunity.
  18. Good. That's where they should be...for now. Start from the bottom and earn respect.
  19. I think they are looking at him being 23 years old as a rookie with more experience. Rather, just a really young guy who they can build around for a long time. I mean that's what you're wanting when you draft what you hope is a franchise QB. He did mention, though, that there isn't a really great hit rate in drafting QBs in the first round. It's always a gamble, even this year. We'll be lucky to see half of the QBs taken in the first round still starting after 3 years. One thing Rhule also mentioned was that when his defensive staff was looking at jets tape, snow said he looked like Matt Stafford. Rhule also talked about conversations with him when Rhule was up for the NYJ job a couple years back and being really impressed with the tone and direction of the conversation with him, like Darnold was on another level maturity-wise. I don't think it has anything to do with an aversion to rookie QBs and everything to do with believing in Darnold.
