no doubt, a ton of shock on Boston and  Benwikere.  Pretty sure not a single huddler

predicted either would be taken even in round 7.

 

But after calming down, here's the thing...

 

1. we need long term help in the secondary at every position.

 

2.  both of the guys are ball hawks who break up passes or intercept.  They aren't perfect at their

position, but they can change the game with their skills.

 

3.  They fit our defense.  RR and Getty will keep our defensive front 7 in the top 5 year after

year.  With quick patches in the secondary last year, we were the number 2 defense.  These

2 guys allow us to spend our free agency money and future draft picks on other positions.

It's the 4th and 5th rounds...we don't have to get All Pro's.   We have to get players who

will make a difference every Sunday for the long term.  They both can do that in our scheme.

 

4.  Getting contributors in 4 and 5 keeps our secondary cheap so we can spend  money keeping

our front 7 strong over the next 5 years.

 

These picks aren't sexy, but I understand better now how we are building the team.

 

When you have the pass rush we now present, there will be a lot of balls that are poorly thrown.

 

Our new dbs are good at catching those and returning them.

i like the picks for secondary but trading up to get that guy in the 5th is a head scratch-er.............then we did little to add to the o line

Gettleman is an expert at filling the last third of the roster with cheap FA's, so I imagine a 7th round pick doesn't have a bunch of value for him. So I can see him trading up to get a guy he think will develop into something rather than using a 7th on another camp body, which he can find easily anyway.

i disagree there were some potentially good ot in the 7th that got scoop up immediately after the draft, that worked last year we will see how this year pans out

      Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates

      This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
