Parsons Set To Become Free Agent

Recommended Posts

The Rockets are preparing to decline the fourth year option on Chandler Parsons making him a restricted free agent.

Houston's goal is to let Parson's go, in the process clearing money so they can sign a third max contract to pair with Howard and Harden.

The Rockets will most likely match any reasonable offer but if the number gets over $10 mil they will most likely let Parson's walk.

I know there are a lot of Parson's fans on here, what do you guys say. Do you throw him a contract?

He would be my ideal signing this off-season. Would come in and fit same role here as he had in Houston, a role we all have seen him have success in. Solid shooter with ability to drive to rim. Good size and athleticism with willingness to play defense.

Houston is going under the impression that if they pick up the option then they won't be able to re-sign Parson's to a long term deal next year because he'd command a bunch of money as an unrestricted free agent next year.

What they don't understand is there are teams out there like the Hornets who may throw up to $15 million at Parson's meaning that the Rockets will have to choose between Parson's or say... Carmelo Anthony.

Houston thinks that they can get Parson's under market value by trying to re-sign him as an RFA rather than a UFA. As we saw last year with Henderson, that's not always the case.

After doing a little math, I believe that the Hornets could sign Parson's for $15 mil and trade for Afflalo (as long as Henderson is included in the deal) and still be under the cap by about $2 million dollars. Not to mention they would still be a substantial amount below the luxury tax.

In my opinion Houston is making a mistake.

Pick up Parson's 4th year option ($960,000) and then sign a max contract like Anthony in the offseason and try to win it all next year and just let Parson's walk the following year. I don't think they will be able to afford Parson's and add another max deal letting him become a restricted free agent.

I think he is the better deep shooter.. But if all things equal Heywards all around game and duability is better. Parson's durability is his biggest weakness but he would be a great fit.

Again outside of 7 guys in the whole league, no one deserves max contracts. It is the world however the Hornets need to play in.

    • Trade up for a project was dumb, he's gonna be 25 next month. By the time you're deciding on whether he's worth the 5th year option or a big contract you're already gonna be thinking about moving on soon either way.
    • I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......
    • Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
