Graham ruled a tight end

Recommended Posts

So anyone drafted at a position, even though they are moved to another, should always get paid as the first position, the one they played in college?

Of course athletes make a lot, but compared to what others get paid in the league with similar production (across all position) yeah, he should get more.  Isn't that fair?  Jimmy should take less than others that produce the same, because people are more poor?  You wouldn't only be thinking about the $ either?  When you could get hurt on your one year franchise tender and never get your payday?  Of course you would.   You wouldn't try to get that $5 mill?  Seems like a lot to me.  Those people making 1/10 would definitely go for that $5 mill haha.

He has NOT been moved to another position.

The fact is that the TE position is changing and evolving in the NFL.  They are being split out wide, put in motion, etc....more than in the past.  That is just the evolution of the position and the game.

And the reason why they're getting paid more and more.

As a Panther fan, how much would you be ok with the Panthers giving Jimmy Graham? How much should he make?

How much would I be OK with? About Tree Fiddy. What he deserves is far more than we have to offer. I would absolutely love having Jimmy on the Panthers though...

Of course Mr. Big Money Hatter would side with the corporation (team) lol.

You do bring up valid points, that the position is evolving therefore it should be more in line with the WR position, yes?

And yeah, if the Panthers were to pay Jimmy what other WRs in the league with similar receiving production were given, I would be fine with it.  Why wouldn't I?

Mr. Big Money Hatter....kind of like that name.

As I said above....the Franchise Tag is paid at a level equal to the highest paid players at a certain position.  Those other salaries have set the current market for TE salaries....which in turn sets the tag.

As the game changes, I expect TE salaries to increase....and in turn the Franchise Tag increases.

It all works.  Graham wants to change the rules of the game.

As a free market capitalist, I believe he should make what the market will bear. The franchise tag, particularly in this case, is a market distorting tool. If allowed to freely test the market, Graham would secure one of the largest WR deals in NFL history.

It is NOT a market distoring tool.

The tag is set by the highest paid players at a given position.....the market actually determines the tag level.

Graham WILL get a huge payday....if not this season, then next.

And I love having him as a Saint. But to act like Jimmy isn't put in the best postition to make him succeed is somewhat one sided to me. If he had to play #1 corners every week, like Calvin Johnson, A.J. Green, and Fitz, then he wouldn't be nearly as productive in my opinion. Tight end is the position he plays and succeeds in.

Show me a # 1 receiver that plays predominantly in the slot. Graham will get somewhere between 9-10 million a year and that will be fair.

Players such as lets say Godfrey being moved to CB. He has officially been moved to that position. He not a safety any longer but a CB. Jimmy on the books is a TE. so your point is invalid.

As far as the money, you missed the point as well. Hell yes every person i know would love to have that money. But the people I know and associate with are not driven by money and processions. ITS A GAME that he and every player in the NFL gets paid to play. IF he wants to be paid as a WR, he needs to either request the change or wait till his FT is over and leave. Stop crying about the extra money.

Simple rules to being happy in this world.

Love your family

Work hard for what you want

Money no matter how much will never make you happy

The other thing about this game today is the lack of loyalty on both sides. They player only think about Money and the teams only think about dropping the aging player for the new stud. I give the Steelers owners big props, They are the most loyal owners I have ever seen. 4 Coaches since the 70's and they keep players well after their prime.   TD put a smile on my face when talking about "he will only play for the panthers".

Love the game but the new wave of players that only think about their pockets is killing it.

So Graham should get paid less than he deserves while the rest of the league catches up on paying TEs like him fairly?   Na, teams get to use franchise on a player two years and force them there.  This is why the franchise tag should be abolished anyway.

Graham would probably love to bump the number up fairly, but he's forced to play for a team for two years instead of getting the deal he deserves.  Hope he doesn't get hurt during that time.....

Negative. On the open market? He'd probably bring in around 12 a year. But that's why there's a CBA. To control salaries. Imagine how high salaries would be if there was no way to retain players and as soon as their contract ran out, it was a bidding war. It would be outrageous. And there would be hardly any way for teams to keep their best players. The CBA works for everyone.

By your logic I shouldn't make what I do because it's way more than the average American. So if you're making more than $51,017 you better return the rest of that to your employer

Ok you just need to take a a deep breathe and pass out.

I make more than that. But once again, ITS A fuging GAME!!!!!! Millions of dollars to play a game that Im sure each and every one of us use to play in the streets growing up.  You could pay me $ 200,000 a year just to ride the damn bench. Practice squad players get more than that.

Is Jimmy a great player? Yes most likely the best TE out there. BUT HES A DAMN TE until the roster states other wise. Thats like being a punter and wanting to get paid a a QB because your the best punter in the world.
