Would You Want Jeremy Lin as a Backup?

It's been made clear for quite awhile now that Lin is on the block...

I figure, if we aren't going to go after one of the superstars (although I'm still holding out hope that we will), and the Rockets are looking to move Lin regardless, why not take him on (in the last year of his contract) to clear up space for the Rockets and obtain some other assets for them in the process.  In doing so, we also obtain a pretty good backup with size to come off the bench behind Kemba.

What say you?  I think it's a genius way of gaining more assets and filling a need, if only for a one-year rental...  It just screams of a Cho-type deal too.  But again, this is all under the assumption that we aren't going after a superstar...

My number one option is hoping to wake up tomorrow and hear that Melo has scheduled a visit with the Hornets.

15 million? 1st round draft pick doesn't carry alot of weight since they would be 20+ and they don't have one until 2016. also if we go into the luxury tax trying to fill out the rest of the team we would be hit twice as hard due to the structure of his contract.

Guess it would be possible but it would require unloading one of our players, a pick, and cash.

Yeah, I'd like Vasquez as well.  I've been a fan of his game since his college days and I think he's the ideal backup.  Great size, good overall ability, but a really great playmaker...  And he'd be much cheaper.

I was just thinking if we could take Lin on without hitting the tax and acquire assets in the process, then why not?  He's serviceable.  Or at the very least, if they could take on Hendo's contract, that would be good enough.  Lin only has the one, poison-pill-year remaining on his contract...  So, that's where the idea kind of came about.

If we're getting something back (1st rounder) and have the cap space this year almost as a throw-away, sure. Don't love him as a player, but could be a smart move, should we trade rape them as they panic for Carmelo space.

After them trying to screw us last year for Aisk my only motivation for Lin would be to hit them in the balls so hard on the trade that they are on their knees for a few years.

    • The good news is that we are pretty uniquely well established to address all of our needs this season. We have $14m real cap space, and something like $40m in trade deadline cap space. Not sure exactly how that works out. But, we have the room to absorb any bad contracts. With recent rule changes regarding retention, that went into effect this season, we now have a huge advantage in the trade market.  On top of that, while we do have obvious needs, we also have a glut of talent in certain areas that we struggle to find ice time for. We are over-stocked on scrappy talented lil-guys, strong defensively sound 3rd liners and shutdown left shot dmen. Whether it's a package or separate deals, idk. But, one of each from Stank/Blake/Nads, Erob/Carrier/KK/Jank, and Walker/Nystrom; throw in some 1st round picks (and frankly any other prospects they want) and we should be able to come out with a 1b to pair with Bussi and either a 2c with size or a 2c and size.   TL/DR We got the money, you got the stuff?
    • I don’t  think 6’4 was ever considered small or undersized. Baby hands tho, yes that was his thing That’s an interesting idea, like an optical illusion? Sounds like you have personal experience with this!
    • in the 25' draft the Carolina Panthers had hired Brandt Tillis someone who actually understood how to build a successful team & build through the draft .  this team was yes mismanaged for years prior to Brandt Tillis joining the team in 25' & rarely done anything right in the draft outside occaionaly getting lucky on an UDFA such as Jalen Coker who's dad coincidentally happened to be a huge Carolina Panthers fan, hint hint  ...just saying
