Nba to consider a mid season season tournament

Nba is going to consider a mid season tournament similar to soccer according to Adam Silver. The Nba wants to try to get more excitement in the mid season and offer more than just the nba finals. The Nba wants the event to be in Vegas.

That's hard to wrap the brain around. They should worry about fixing the lottery first. Could be a great move if really thought out well. Not much you can take from soccer, but that would give one of the American main sports something totally different than all the rest. Give it a march madness flavor.

Sounds cool, everyone loves a trophy...  until you realize that there would be two championships in one season, which basically makes it worthless.  So, it's actually really DUMB.

Now, if they did like a FIBA tourney at the middle of the season each year, that would be interesting.

I repeat, why would anyone care?

Unless the winner of that tournament gets an automatic spot in either the Playoffs or the Draft Lottery, preferably the Lottery, then who cares? A trophy means nothing. The NBA doesn't need it's own version of the NIT.

Money. It's a way the NBA can get some more attention in the middle of the season and make more money. I'm not 100% sure what ideas they have planned but maybe when they say they want it to be like soccer maybe they can split players up into where they are from and put them on teams.

We know why the "NBA," sponsors, and media care, but why would anyone else care?

If I'm a team owner who is paying players, why would I want you to put them in an irrelevant tournament where they could be injured doing something that doesn't contribute to my team's wins? Same for me if I'm a player. If I'm a fan, I already have All-Star weekend, why would I need a publicity stunt like this?

But if my team could be guaranteed a spot in the NBA Draft Lottery if we win it, regardless of our record at the end of the year, then everyone would care. Everyone.

    • That throw was incredibly special.  But there isn't anyone alive who has ever played QB who thinks that was a smart or practical throw.  Go watch anyone's commentary on it, specifically Steve Young's. You are swapping complete teams' situations, not just the QBs.  What I was saying is if Caleb was here this year with all things the same, and Bryce was in Chicago this year with all things the same, the results of their season would be the same.  But if you think Dave Canales is as good of a coach and play caller as Ben Johnson, PM your Zelle info and I'd like 10 cases of whatever you are drinking.
    • He wouldn't be the same player he was now. He took a year off learning under Kyle Shannahan (who makes literally every QB that plays for him look good besides Trey Lance). Then he got to play with two stacked offenses and great coaching staffs In a weird way I think we would've kept Frank Reich for another year if we kept Darnold, DJ Moore, and our draft picks. Hell maybe Reich isn't even hired in that situation and we kept Wilks or hired a different head coach.  I think keeping Darnold and DJ (and possibly CMC and Burns) would have helped stablize the franchise. But not sure if Darnold would have put us over the edge without the coaches and teams he got to play with after he left Carolina. IMO he would have been more like a bridge QB. Unless we got the right HC to bring these traits out of him.
