Wfnz Panthers interviews thread

Just tuned in and Bene was on.  Good listen.  Every interview I've heard today has portrayed a focused and intelligent player.  I remember Sauerbrun/Collins interviews with total meat head comments.  These guys all seem bright and well adjusted players.

I made this comment during the draft.  Ealy, Turner, Boston, Benwikere, Gaffney--very intelligent.  Turner's intelligence has him starting. I did not mention Benjamin because I think he is not really in their class--, but I would like to add a point or two about Benji--

Before the draft, Benjamin was a Panther fan.  That is cool.

I don't see him as anyone who will rock the boat or become a head case with fame.

I think Benjamin has a good chance of being Offensive Rookie of the Year.  He will get more targets than any other rookie WR.

Avant, and some of the news guys names that escape me at the moment, all sounded intelligent and good guys as well.

I made that mention to myself as well when I was listening (that the "Panthers have picked up some good guys boy").

PS: Benji, many not have been as subtle or articulate as some of the others (The drawl didn't help). However, I thought he sounded just as professional, hardworking, and a good teammate as anyone else.

When I heard Benji, I said to myself "Boy he sounds like a pro and a good teammate". He sounded all business, but supportive of his mates and the process. A real Gamer.

I agree. I was not downing Benji, but the others sounded like grad students.

Avant is a class act, as is Cotchery.  I feel Bersin is too.  Those are probably our top 4 WRs.

Benjamin stated that after OTA's he wanted to stay in the city because it was so nice.  When prodded he stated that his view back at home, in his front yard was endless cane fields and Charlotte was a beautiful city and he would rather stay here with Cam.

He can have all of the drawl he wants.  He can make a damn negative 12 on the Wonderlic for all I care.

The man loves Cam, he loves the Panthers, he loves us and he loves to win.  He is the best thing 3 years in a row that has happened to this team during the draft.

I agree that everyone else interviewed today sounded like a savant and Benji sounded more like me.

He can sound like  Karl Childers for all I care.  This dog can hunt.

Dickson seems to be of the same mold.  I really liked what I heard.

Forgot him.  Take a look at the players on the roster too--Luke, Cam, Tolbert, DWill, Davis, Kalil, Harper (feel funny saying that about him, but he is a smart dude), Olsen, Anderson, etc.  This is a smart football team.

    • The Falcons have 2 significant offensive line injuries to start the 2025 season. Right tackle Kaleb Mcgary (who is the blindside protector for Penix since he is left-handed) is going to miss significant time, and it's looking more like it may be all season. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/falcons-expect-kaleb-mcgary-to-miss-significant-time https://x.com/BKsquared7/status/1959285822236107013. Also, the top backup and swing tackle, Storm Norton (cool name BTW) is having ankle surgery and may miss half the season. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/falcons-ot-storm-norton-out-6-8-weeks-after-ankle-surgery I don't root for injuries, but its also hard to be too sympathetic given how badly injuries have hit us in recent years. We definitely need to get that W in week 3 for our home opener at BOA. Despite our collective frustration at not being able to attend TC and then having boring preseason games, ultimately the most important objective of the preseason is to enter Week1 healthy, and we have at least done that. Hopefully the depth we think we have at Oline either shines through or isn't needed. Many other teams are in a bad spot with their offensive lines before the season even starts. For once, we aren't in that situation.
    • That roster was billed as a super smart and strong unit for a young QB….until he sucked though.   it didn’t have superstars but it had proven vets that checked well all the safe boxes and it was universally agreed the Panthers were putting him into position to succeed. BY just doesn’t fit a traditional O because he isn’t built like a traditional QB.  And he still doesn’t.   CJ Stroud would have had more success here than Bryce with that cast.   CJ just has the tools that fit the NFL more easily.  Young can find success but I have always argued it would take a Bryce centric plan (which we have never attempted IMO)
    • looks like the Lions and Bangles should forget about the playoffs, trade everyone they can, and start over.
