Behind Enemy Lines - Bucs Edition

NBC Sports:

"The Bucs are literally giving away tickets to long-suffering fans... The Bucs have committed to buying up any tickets to reach the 85 percent threshold (at 34 cents on the dollar), to stay on local TV, while they try to rebuild a fan base grown complacent. But the fact they’re offering freebies so close to the start of a season — a season which includes the hope of a solid rebound — shows how far they have to go to become relevant in their own market again."

So, what I'm hearing is...people in Charlotte think people in Tampa are poor and are making fun of them for it. When people call this a plastic town full of snobs...that appears to be a critique with a ton of merit.

nope. we just think the buc fanbase is close to non-existant and/or just weak.

Pretty sure their fanbase is acting exactly like this fanbase was acting during some losing years. I've sat in BofA with about a handful of other people for a few games here. It's the very nature of sports franchises just about everywhere. Especially smaller markets like this one. In the early 2000's all you would hear from Bucs fans was about how their season ticket waiting list was something like 20 years long. Now? Poof. They all went home. Same thing happens here. Nobody gives a poo about teams when they lose. True in Tampa. True in Charlotte. True in Atlanta. True in St Louis. The much bigger markets, like Chicago, will weather it better. But, that's just how it is.

So...good smack! You told them! Losers!

for the Bucs, DE Gholston and DE Bowers are both out and they were supposed to help out as depth at DT as "the Bucs have only three defensive tackles on roster."

So the Bucs only have seven DL available for the game:

DE Clayborn (PFF rates him "poor" as a starter. ESPN: "last year he was unspectacular with 5.5 sacks.")

DE Johnson - (3.5 sacks in 15 starts last season. CBS: "Johnson is a gamble for the Bucs...In order for the defense to be successful, Johnson definitely has to double his sack total from last season. Anything short of seven sacks would be seen as a disappointing season")

DE Solomon - 0 sacks, 1 tackle for his whole NFL career

DE Means - entering 2nd season, zero sacks, zero tackles in the NFL

DT McCoy - beast, will get double and triple teamed

DT McDonald - PFF rates "good" as a starter - 5.5 sacks for the Seahawks last year as the 2nd-deep DT in the rotation

DT Spence - PFF rates "poor" as a starter. 1 sack in 14 starts last year

    • Give me Tua week 2 vs this defense oh boy!! I’m cool with either lefty they both are average at best imo but out d may be head hunting early in the year unmatched energy either coming off  big win or needing to bounce back from week one either way ATL should be food  strip sacks and meetings at the QB all day.
    • Are you watching the same football games??? Stroud went from very good performances to poo. He’s not playing to the level expected since his first season. He appears to be declining after such a strong rookie season we haven’t seen anything close to that from him since. Bryce has improved year after year he’s been clutch he’s been very dependable and available. I’d like to see more yardage this season and it’s not that far apart but Bryce, once Dave ask him to sling it goes out and performs well some of his lackluster days I place some blame with Dave and inconsistent play calling and of course on Bryce and his inaccuracy. Bryce isn’t a elite QB to me let’s be clear but he can win in this league, CJ is looking like he’s hit his ceiling already and his best days are behind him that’s why he needs to prove it this year. Bryce looks like he’s getting better year by year with a big year expected this season.
    • And you know it's going to 100% happen, even in something meaningless like a preseason game
