Speed at Wide Receiver

Besides the inconsistency on the Oline I feel this is our biggest weakness on offense. We went deep today to Kelvin and Avant and neither got much separation from the DB. Cam sails some of his long balls so having someone who can run them down would be great. Even though he had trouble catching Cam would throw a bomb to Ginn last year at least once a game and he did haul in a few. Plays like that can be game changers. I liked what I saw from Philly on the reverse and he did snag a nice deep ball in the preseason. I hope he continues to develop into a reliable receiver. I trust the coaches with Hill and if he shows something on the practice They will bring him up to the active roster.

TLDR: I feel the panthers need to develop a speedster to be the teams deep threat. It is one of the few pieces missing from this offense.

philly brown duh

or bersin. is bersin fast? i have no idea what his speed is like. i would imagine he is faster than the top three guys though.

Bersin is probably around kbs speed. He is not a barn burner. Hes a replacement for cotch/avant.

Frankly I have no issue with the panthers not having a freakish speedster. Speed guys WITH good hands are expensive and sure, a true speed threat keeps a defense honest. However the guys lacking speed in this offense are just big and strong enough to also demand attention.

With a guy like cam I prefer guys who demand attention throught their entire route and are big enough to lay blocks when cam runs.

    • I am high, but that’s besides the point! The blue line is not good right now. I’ve said it all year. I don’t think this group meshes well. Slaven has been just OK Niki up and down Miller up and down ghost and Walker have been your most consistent guys. Maybe it comes together more towards the playoffs
    • I was expecting to see more cap room moves by now, which may be to suggest that we are not going to be that aggressive.  I have mixed emotions about that (because I think we have 3 needs on D and 3 needs on O--starters).  If you look to the draft for 3 starters, that is ambitious.  We need 6
    • Yeah we shouldn’t be competing with teams, bidding wise, to sign a WR. There will be one for us and our budget.  I keep saying, how many balls will there be to go around anyway? One thing good I will say for this offense is the ball has been spread around at times. Seems like I remember seeing a large number of guys have caught passes in a game. Or been targeted at least. 3 RBs 4 or 5 WRs 2-3 TEs type of stat lines. 10-11 guys.  Not every week but that happens.    As far as WR in general, we need the smaller agile and quicker component to compliment what is there. After that it should be about depth, having good backups for the starters so we can run things consistently still, if a guy is out for a week or two. That is especially important in game where you have to finish the game with who you made active.
