Rookies turning this thing around

If you wanted Gettleman fired because he didn't re-sign LaFell and dropped Steve Smith, you need to start rethinking things.

I completely understand the Smith situation.

Anyone who wanted Lafell to stick around was an utter moron regarding that point.

Lafell lacked any form of upside.  He wasn't fast, and he certainly couldn't win jump ball situations.  If you are a starting wide-out in the NFL, if you aren't capable of performing either of the two tasks above, you better run near perfect routes, catch everything in sight and be an exceptional blocker.  Lafell was a decent blocker, but that was all.

He's not an awful player, but when Cam Newton is your quarterback you have to do better.

I think many fans would have been fine with LaFell returning on the cheap, but also agree 110% that letting NE overpay for him was the correct move as well.

Seriously, major props to Gman.

Sure he hasn't addressed our needs directly the way us fans want him to, but he's done a hell of a job in getting us out of cap hell.

His bargain bin FA's have been a random mix, but he's gotten better talent than he should have considering the deals he's given out.

Ultimately, his eye for mid, late and UDFA rookie talent is what is going to set us up for the future. I reiterate, he hasn't addressed team needs directly. He has been able to cherry pick talent with minimal to no investment. When you keep that up over time the roster completes itself, you have money to spend in FA on big name players to address glaring holes and you get excessive talent in areas you don't necessarily need allowing you to trade for even more future resources.

Kinda like the Patriots organization.

That's a pretty amazing haul from just one draft. Think of how this season would have gone if we didn't have guys like Amini, DWill, Cason, Godfrey, ect starting for so long. A lot just went wrong this year with injuries, exempt list and dumbass coaching staff just playing the wrong guys.

Imagine if we had Stewart, Norwell, Turner, Remmers, PhillyB starting the entire season on offense, along with a healthy Cam. And on defense had Hardy, Norman, Bene and Boston starting all year. We'd easily be looking at a 9-10 win season.
