Big Up's to Gettelmen

WOW!!

Yeah, the team shouldn't be committed to Rivera/Shula ball, cause Newton already proved he could throw it from the pocket when he walked into the league and generated the #5 offense.

The run game actually fed off him during the Chud Era, and even 2nd half of 2012. So they should be no doubts.

I think JR hiring Rivera and GMan separately is the problem. There appears to be divergent interest here. So hopefully, someone can/will figure out, you can't be devoted to playing one type of offense (slug ball), when you have a multidimensional QB who can, and has already gotten you big points. Just play aggressively every chance you get, until it's unnecessary.

It's either that, or fire Shula (as you suggested) or Rivera, unless GMan can convince them otherwise.

When you luck into a talent like Cam.. You have to build around him.. Just like the Colts have done for Andrew..

I agree Cam imo has already proven that you have something truly special at QB and all he needs is a avg. Supporting cast and you can win...

Another Pass catcher a different OC and starting LT then we can truly have something special here on offense. .

He doesn't need the greatest Oline like Romo or 4 to 5 pass catching options and a RB like Ryan..

Agreed (including the rest of your post).

Contrary to what many would wanna believe, Newton has never had a great OL (a good one his first year; decent one his second, decent again in his third, then awful for most of the season); consistently productive RB's, or great receivers.

Nonetheless, Newton was always/clearly the most dangerous player on the Panther offense, and made it happen, especially whenever the coaching was committed to moving the ball.

Not exactly sure, what Rivera/Shula are afraid of, unless they're just stupid? Take yesterdays game for example: It was the early lead the Panther got, which allowed the defense to pin back their ears and get all those sacks and INT's.

I only wished, Rivera/Shula would have played aggressively through out, instead of when they felt threatened any time their point differential/cushion is threatened  (did the same thing against Cleveland as well).

I like Rivera but he is constantly acting like John Fox (without Peyton).. When it comes to his ideology of what offensive football is today. .

If he fires Shula and hires a truly inventive offensive mind then I will change my opinion on him..

And i don't mean a Chud more like a McCoy who knows how to call a game and run a passing and running offense. .

We have either been one extreme or another since Cam's gotten here...

the man did a decent job so far this season, very solid draft even though i still disagree with the kony pick but let's not act like there weren't a lot of things that fell our way, and hats off to the coaching staff and players for getting it done these last 4 weeks. I'm not going to act like the guy needs to be perfect but most of the problems we had this offseason he caused himself............and relying on a team full of rookies idgaf that's a steep gamble that paid off THIS season but that's not a plan that works majority of the time.

there's definitely room for improvement

Rivera's either lazy, weak or stupid in certain respects.

First he hires Chud, a very aggressive OC who believes in a vertical offense. Then he loses Chud, brings in Shula; who does the total opposite (almost), and is content to keep him regardless of the Panther offensive struggles in the playoffs and this season?

How do you go through such extremes? Because Shula provided continuity? :startle:

I know Chud, became a whipping boy of sorts with many Panther fans here. However, I hope Ron Ron wasn't reading those post?.... Rivera should have been able to determine, "sometimes your defense is not going to always play in optimal fashion for whatever reason and just live with it/don't blame your offense". However, I'm not sure if he brought in Shula because he complemented Rivera's philosophy more as some want to believe, other than sheer comfortability.

Plus, if you can't move the ball on offense, your defense will literally be out on the field all game. So there's a balance.

    • 100%. Nick Scott was awful last year. Like, even for a franchise that hasn't historically invested in that position, it stood out for how awful it was. If he sees meaningful snaps at S again we're cooked.  Maybe he has value for ST, but I certainly hope we can upgrade. Jordan Fuller, who was by all accounts an Evero guy, was almost as bad. Xavier Woods was bad, but not complete garbage. Still did not want him back. Those 3 guys seriously may have been the worst S group in the NFL. And they all were brought in, especially Fuller, as good fits for this system. Everyone knocks the defensive line, and they deserve a lot of blame, too, but so, so many times our safeties inability to tackle let 4-5 yard runs turn into 10+. And it happened over and over and over again if you watch the film. Honestly, Demani Richardson was the only S by the end of the year I remember making positive plays. I have no issue with Richardson being in the mix and/or competing to be a starter, but we still need another S desperately IMHO who has actually played meaningful snaps in the NFL. The only caveat/excuse for our secondary was the fact our pass rush was nonexistent for large stretches last year. Maybe that helps with coverage, but I dont see how that makes any of these guys better at tackling.  I know it somewhat feels like piling on at this point, but I feel 100% confident in saying this was the worst tackling team in franchise history. The 70ish yard pass play we gave up to Jamarr Chase where he ran through and past everyone in the secondary has to be up there in terms of most embarrassing plays I've ever seen. I can't imagine how embarrassed Kuechly must have been watching from the booth... I think bringing back Evero was a mistake, but for a team that has had nothing but change over the past 5 years, I'm willing to see this through. I definitely think we added significantly to the floor of this defense with the additions we made. I dont think Evero has any further excuses if he cant field a unit that can at least somewhat hold their own. Fixing the safety play is going to be a big part of that.
    • While I would like to see Nikishkin play, I definitely wouldn't want it to be for Chatty who is a lockdown defender like Slavin
    • 2 teams with sub 2% odds winning it within a span of less than 20 years. Quite unbelievable.
