All hail our 1000 yard receivers

Smitty would have propelled this offense immensely! I'm thinking at least 11 wins. The argument is a moot point though. To sit here and say that our offense wouldn't have been more dynamic with Smitty is utterly ridiculous though.

No doubt, but the contract would have been guaranteed and Smitty would have been a 37-year old WR with a $9m cap figure in 2016, the highest cap figure for a WR over 35 years of age ever and by far.  That is making the cap issues worse, not better.

I qualified the post by stating the cap is behind every decision made and will continue to be.  I would have loved Smitty here, but there are reasons beyond the field that cause me to understand why he is not.

Two defenses continue to be offered in favor of the Smith release, and they are weak in my opinion.

#1) "His 2016 cap figure though!" Smith planned to retire after 2015, so how does a cap figure of zero sound? Maybe our GM did not know of Smith's intentions, but that is another reason he should have had an honest conversation with Smith.

#2) " But Smith brings down other players (cites Torrey Smith)." My gosh. How much do these men get payed to play football? If you can't do your best because there is a strong, uber-competivie  personality on the team, you do not deserve your paycheck, and I don't want you on the Panthers.

My own defense of the Smith release was that he was too old and not likely to last the season. I was wrong too.

89 wasn't just a strong personality. He was likely a distraction and pain to those who are now leading this team.

Can't just take Ravens stats and apply them here and say life would be grand. This isn't Baltimore, 89's ways more of an issue here and likely worse bc of his history and comfort
