The flu

Had this a few weeks ago I think.  Hit me out of nowhere after a few hours at work.  Wife and I carpool uptown so I couldn't even go home for like 5 hours till she could get free and get me.  I had the shakes from terrible fever at work, had to vomit/#2 as well (and I haven't vomited in like 15 years, and I NEVER use the toilet at work lol).  It was terrible.  Got in the car and turned heat to like 100 all the way home.  Just slept it off while taking some flu medicine (over the counter).  Fever broke late that night and then I felt rough for a couple days but got over it.

I was on-call for work too that week and got a call EVERY night past 1am.  Was a terrible week.

If you were feeling better in a couple of days, you did not have the flu strain that is kicking everyone's ass....that sucker lasts nearly 2 weeks.

I thought I had it about a month ago....felt terrible for about a day and a half so I went to the Dr.  Got the test and it came back negative.  Dr. said there are dozens of viruses out there this year that have flu like symptoms....only the symptoms are less severe and only last a couple of days.

Egg allergy by chance?

I have an egg allergy and have never gotten the shot, although I probably could because my allergic reaction isn't an anaphylactic one.

I've only gotten the flu one time and it sucked pretty terribly.

There are many variants of the flu vaccine from many manufacturers. There are versions without egg proteins.

Also, have you had an allergy test as an adult? Many people who have egg allergies as a child outgrow it.

From 4 physicians and a medical professional with knowledge in this area only surpassed by your love of ziti.

Sorry but they may not think it's as effective certain years but they should always opt for theshot. Telling their patients no in an ineffective years pretty much means that patient won't get a shot the next year. They should know healthy people don't get immunized for themselves but for those with with weaker immune systems.

These certainly may be doctors but perhaps their doctorates are in music, sports management, and African American Studies at UNC while playing football there.

Step away from this discussion as you might be ill prepped to go down the "who I know in the medical field and here's what they recommend" path.

CHS requires the providers to have the flu vaccine.

The only other thing is this might have come from peeps at piedmont medical center and if so I'm sorry but if I was in a life threatening accident in their parking lot is request to be sur lifted to cmc main. They are that bad

best medicine for the fever is rum and hot water....

step by step....

run a tub as hot as you possibly can...or if you don't live in a trailer park, make sure your hot tub is ready

consume a couple of rum beverages...however you typically drink it is fine

when just slightly buzzed...key word is slightly...pour three more ounces of rum into a glass and shoot it back

get into tub and do your best to stay awake for at least 10 minutes

leave tub and after you dry off, climb straight into bed

awake 8 to 10 hours later and prepare to wash your sheets

consume copious amounts of water and continue on with your life.

I drink lots of red wine during flu season and get nary a sniffle. It's either working or I gots germs that scares the flu away.

No these guys are real genuine article doctors. Good try on discrediting.

And they said they were not taking the shot. They didn't tell patients not too.

With the exception of a below average hitter in baseball, .270 isn't that good. Even if ALL of say Meck County got the flu shot, 73% would be prone to being at risk. That's pretty sizeable.

Again. Im relaying what they said.

I'm curious the # just on this thread who got the flu after the flu shot vs those who didn't get the flu or the flu shot?

Sometimes it's a roll of the dice.

And I'm saying I just asked my wife who works in internal medicine if she ever heard of a doctor who didn't take the flu shot. She said no. She said no MD unless allergic within CHS is even eligible to pad on it .She's been in internal medicine for 10 years which is the front lines of the flu and everything else that makes someone cough sneeze or she.

You got BSed or your talking to chiropractors ...just saying.

Again. Legit physicians. Front lines and what these guys deal with may give them more latitude.

Still curious about shots vs no shots and who got flu.

What type of MDs are they... my wife is even curious. I know they are not internal medicine, pediatrics, obgyns, or any that see older or younger populations, or work in the hospital. .. your hesitation to name their field is telling.

Even if you get the flu and you have had the shot the symptoms are lessened. I had the flu shot but just got taken down by a pretty brutal rhinovirus. Lots of people would have thought it was the flu but it wasn't so unless they have been told flu it cannot be submitted as a positive case

Why are you consistently trying to portray what isn't there? My hesitation is telling? Lol

Pretty sure I mentioned at the start. My friend who has in home visits of people on dialysis etc also visits doctors office as a liaison for those patients. Basically a high level social worker if you will and some of the doctors there have told him they won't get the shot. Im waiting to hear the exact type so you can be satisfied so it won't be so telling. Lol. I don't doubt the shot being a requirement. That makes sense.

    • Bryce has improved each season, fwiw, statistically.  His slope is rising.  (Not to say I am high on him--I am not, but I have not given up on him--nor have I given up on XL, but damn he pisses me off)  CJ's slope is descending.   I was never a Penix fan.  Never, I say!
    • That is definitely the down side of all this--on paper, I would offer up a second rounder for him if he passed my interviews.  He has already gone through (seriously?) a treatment program for gambling addiction.  I just see him as a first round talent that we could get with a second rounder.  If I liked Bryce and felt good about paying him $50m per, I would not touch Sorsby.  If Bryce regresses or stays the same--he is going to expect to be paid.  Sorsby, in my view, has a better long-term future as an NFL QB.  He is big, mobile, has good arm strength, and makes wise decisions (on the field) with the football.  He is a great dual threat, RPO QB.   I think he is a perfect solution for the backup qb position and insurance for Bryce should he get injured or suck.  Pickett?  King?  yikes.
    • Hard to say--they are very unpredictable--this article came out last night---after our comments:  (ESPN)   How has the NFL approached NCAA players with gambling violations in the past? David Purdum, sports betting reporter: Quarterback Hunter Dekkers and wide receiver Kayshon Boutte were found to have committed gambling violations while playing college football, and both were allowed to pursue NFL careers. Dekkers was the projected starting quarterback at Iowa State but was ruled ineligible ahead of the 2023 season after an investigation found he had bet on at least one game involving the Cyclones (among other wagers that violated NCAA bylaws). The bet was just $15 on Iowa State to beat Oklahoma State in a 2021 game in which he did not play, but it led to the end of his Division I career. He played one season at Iowa Western Community College in 2024 before signing with the Saints as an undrafted free agent, and he spent last season on the practice squad. Boutte was arrested in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in January 2024 on charges of underage betting while at LSU. The arrest came roughly eight months after he had been drafted in Round 6 by the Patriots, and the charges were ultimately dropped. According to police, Boutte placed more than 8,900 wagers from April 2022 to May 2023, including betting on at least 17 college football games -- at least six of which involved LSU during that span. The NFL did not discipline Boutte.
