Learn something from Bucky Brooks, couch GMs & casual fans

Very interesting--I have had the same thoughts. Brady solves a lot. Had he not grabbed Brady, would we even know his name? They have played in a pretty weak division for years, they have a qb who makes average good and good great, and they have the benefit of BB's game planning.

BB gets cute when it comes to the draft. It backfires a lot, but he always has (as you said) 10 picks, so if three or four catch fire, he looks good. The Pats are always big in free agency. When you have free agents coming in due to Brady, Brady taking a pay cut to win, etc. It is hard to lose. Historically, for whatever reason, players have accepted below market to play there.

Brady does cover LOTS of weakness. I will state this, it will bump BBs value and put a small dent in toms. Remember when brady got injured week 1(before halftime) and for the rest of the season matt cassel was your QB.......... pats still went 10-6, but missed the playoffs. Still 10 wins with a guy that hasn't started since HS is very impressive. Disclaimer; I'm quoting this stuff off the memory, I hate using goggle to cover my weakness.

Plus I'll add, that pats have had a GREAT fg kickerS during this 15 year run too. Brady gets lots of credit, but both the kickers(steve&adam) have won games too. Having a great kicking game with around 60% of your games in bad weather...... its a huge advance.

You are correct about BBs cuteness drafting. He'll draft a second rounder that most teams have a UDFA grade on. In a year or two BB will cut the bust and still win 12. BB has brainwashed tom into "cheap" contracts, that's seems to part of BB formula. Find/draft players that are easily brainwashed into the "pat way". If you don't, BB will cut or trade you once the brainwashing isn't working. BB is a teacher, some of best wired segments are BB getting players to fully understand why you need to here in this moment at this score in this weather with their OC calling the play. He explains the "why".

    • I never thought a second look was even necessary. I was begging the football gods not to have us trade up to the 1st pick. And damn once we did it was a thoroughbred vs a little pony.    If you have a perceived generational player in the pool and you have the 1st pick, you just don’t trade it. In the first place. But all this Bryce drama - which (understandably) takes over almost any thread, just like this one - would never have happened if the team was not sold to Tepper.
    • I agree. I understand why he did though. And surely he had his parents in his ear who have always gone out of their way to make sure he always had the best and the least amount of adversity around him to that point in his life advising him to do so. Where I take the most issue with it is when people who just want to be sycophants start listing off other QB's who didn't throw at the combine and you don't even make it through half the names before your eyes roll right into the back of your head realizing every single of those QB's who didn't throw already clearly showcased the necessary prerequisite physical talents needed for the position.
