Chris Hackett, is listed at 6'2 195 pounds. This looks to be close to his size, based off when I watch him in games. He is from Tyler, Texas, and has been playing on a very good TCU defense. Hackett is a very instinctive safety that has the ability to play single high, on a hash, in a two high look, and in the box as extra run support. Very good open field tackler, and wraps guys up, rather then going for the kill shot. Does lunge tackle, but grabs cloth, and legs to secure tackle to the ground. Had 75 tackles his junior year.

Has played some robber, when he starts high, and fly’s down to play the intermediate middle of the field. Reads the quarterback very well. Does not take many false steps, when breaking on the football.  Have ball-hawking abilities, as exhibited with his 7 INTs.  Takes the proper angles in run support, as well as tracking the football. I think his versatility will intrigue the panthers because he can play both safety spots really well.  Has very fluid hips, and pretty clean footwork with no extra steps when reading and reacting. Will have to show his deep speed, because I do question it. Has to run a decent time 40 at the combine.

Carolina likes to play both of their safeties in both roles, and one of the reasons why Charles Godfrey started. Hackett has shown the ability to play man-to-man coverage, and has the height to match up with tight ends over the middle, and outside. Can blitz from the edge, which Carolina does with its safeties as well. Hackett would be perfect for the panthers. Draft media thinks only 1 safety is worth a top 75 pick, but I think Hackett is a solid 3rd -4th rounder. He is also my 2nd safety, behind Landon Collins.

With the release of DeCoud I'd say it's a sure thing we draft another safety somewhere in this draft. I like Hackett.

Thoughts of James Sample out of Louisville? Like his game as well.

i got to find some games of his. Louisville has been producing some DBs lately tho.

    • This is what I mean. I am not some huge BY fan. I honestly don't look at QBs the way a lot of you guys do. Right or wrong, I've always looked at them as just another cog in the machine. Didn't want BY or even a trade up for a QB in 2023. We saw in the Super Bowl how important the rest of the team is on any given Sunday. Now... so PFF, who has no reason to prop up BY, says he's first in 2 stat lines and Panthers "fans" are arguing why it's either wrong or a made up stat just to make BY look good. Even though they have multiple stat lines where he's literally last in. Like 32nd in the NFL. Some he's even lower than 32. Take a step back. Try to objectively self analyze. This is just not sensible.  Same thing I see with other teams' fans and their QBs though. We analyze every single throw on every single play. For every other QB, most here are only using highlights to judge. Makes a difference. We saw Stafford miss throws when they played Carolina - both games. We saw Love throw crap up when they played Carolina. We saw Dak miss throws when they played Carolina - and Pickens was putting on a SHOW. We saw Josh Allen win a game with 163 yards passing against Carolina, but if BY does it he's crap and can't pass for 200 yards. Gents... come on.
    • None of us think we're contenders this season but no reason we're doomed to 5 or 6 wins either. Dan has to have another 2025- like draft class and at least 2 key free agent signings. We're not Seattle but they don't win without 5 starters from their last 2 draft classes and Darnold and Lawrence in free agency.  Alas,  we'll have to wait one more season for a QB upgrade.
    • I've got nothing else to say really than: Ayup. Here we are again. Again.  All we can really hope for is progress. If we improve as much again, it'll be good. If we don't, it'll be foretold.
