NFL.com's GM List of Highest Success with Rookies

That is a horrible article.

A GM who decided to trade away picks for 1 or 2 players in the draft would always be listed as the best GM. They would only need to hit on 1 or 2 picks with this method every 4 years to stay at the top. Also, the mediocre and bad teams rely on their rookies to start and be a large part of the game plan. This also gives an advantage to GMs who are constantly replacing players in the starting line up. That is why the Dolphins, Rams, Vikings, and Bucs top this list.

What I take from that is the GMs who challenge and go to the Super Bowl consistently draft an average of 9 players per year.

Gettleman is dead last at 5 drafted players per year. That skews the All Rookie Team as a gauge of a GM.

If you want to compete for a championship, you better rack up 10 to 12 picks in the draft every year to fill out a roster. This coupled with great scouting will lead to a very successful team. This will also allow a team to easily obtain cap space and rent those one or two top tier free agents to win a championship if you do not find them through the draft.

If this means you need to trade down out of the first and second round to obtain several 3rd, 4th, and 5th round picks, then you do it. Teams that value their 1st and 2nd round picks when they only have 5 picks in the draft and are using free agency to fill out their roster are setting themselves up for mediocrity. There is no way you will compete with the top GMs year in and year out.

Again...

He doesn't have a clue what he's talking about.

We could win the Super Bowl this year and him and two or three others would be on to talk about how we didn't really win it or we should have won it better or sooner.

Like Igo said, there's an awful lot of stupidity on this board right now.

That was a really long joke.
