BTBAM just released an album...

I've been listening to it a couple weeks now, and, as probably the originator of the BTBAM love and hate on the Huddle, I am rather unimpressed.

It grows on you the more you listen, but I'm sorry, they've just gotten to the point where some of the stuff just sounds really show-tuney or theatrical and corny.

TBQH it doesn't sound like a BTBAM album to me... It sounds like one of Tommy's solo project albums (although, I am a fan of those)...

I'm still a fan, but it is pretty meh TBQH

I don't know that anyone will top The Contortionist's "Language" anytime soon, as far as progressive metal goes.

Yea, to me, nothing will ever be better then Alaska or Colors.  They've always had that show-tuney taste, but I think we can realize it more now because Tommy is singing a lot more (does that make sense?)  I've read a lot of reviews where people are comparing it to DreamTheater, but better.  I'll still add it to my music collection simply because I've been listening to them for ten years and I still get joy out of it.

Definitely agree with The Contortionist comment as well.  But, to be fair, that's sort of what they do.  I think BTBAM is making the transition simply because of their age (Tommy is 34 now...your voice can only handle so much).  The good news is that they're talented enough to make that transition.

By the way, I'm a big fan of the new ABR release as well (not sure if that's going to get me in trouble with this crowd or not).

WOAH!  Apparently, the site merges comments that are left in quick succession now!

I love the new album. It is great to get a departure from the formula (as much as you can have being prog) they have established since Colors.

Colors, to me, is still the best progressive metal album of all time. I have worn that album out. But by the time Parallax II came out, I had become a bit disillusioned with their music. As much as I like him, getting rid of Jamie King would do wonders for their sound.

Also- yes, Language by The Contortionist is amazing.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
