Sid Meier's Beyond Earth Free Weekend

FYI Free weekend on Steam to download and play Beyond Earth. I think it ends sometime tomorrow.

I bet we have some Civ 5 fans here who've wanted to try Beyond Earth. It's free on Steam this weekend. Just downloaded it and it seems pretty good even though I just got destroyed about 35 turns in on my first game.

I am so lost when trying to play a Civ game.  I have Civilization V but feel like such dunce when I launch it.

Same thing for me. I love RTS games and it looked like Civ V was an RTS but it isn't. It's turn-based. Opened it up and was totally lost. I didn't understand why it was one of the best-rated games of all time and set it down for about 6 months.

One day I watched a couple playthrough commentaries and started to understand then before I knew it I wracked up 150 hrs of gametime. Good luck.

yall shut your whore mouths about civ 5. probably the best game i've ever owned.

i need to get the expansions.

Can you download it?

Where?  I'm not much of a PC gamer, but the winter is my dead time of the year and will need something to get me from Thanksgiving to mid Jan.

You played civ 5 without its expansions? GET THEM

I've put many hours into civ 5, the expansions improve the game greatly.

Edit: Beyond Earth sucks balls. Civ 5 is way better. With Beyond Earth, all of the civ choices play almost identically. There is very little difference whereas on civ 5 the civs all play very differently. In my opinion the replay value of civ 5 is way way way better than beyond earth.

I lasted like 5 hours on BE.  They updated it though apparently, I haven't tried.

And yeah ditto, you have to get Civ5 expansions (at this point it may be cheaper to buy "complete" edition, not sure) because the two big expansions are huge.  One fixes early game and one fixes the end game, IMO.

    • I was playing around with the ESPN playoff predictor and it shows if 49ers and Rams finish with same record, the Rams hold the tiebreaker.
    • This is my thinking as well. Seattle played as good as they could on defense and Panthers still had a chance until those back to back turnovers.  I don't think the Rams played particularly well in their game against us, alot things went our way in order to win.  Someone pointed out the Rams were bad on the east coast road games and Seattle has been the better road team but they just fought a hard contested game against the Panthers, and now they travel to San Fran this week for their biggest game of the season to determine the division and if they are the overall #1 seed in the NFC or will be traveling for the Wildcard weekend.  If they lose they then travel back cross the country to play a team they've just beaten two weeks ago, not saying they won't be favored against the Panthers but the energy of hosting our first playoff game in 10 years along with the get back effect of having just lost to this team could be huge.
    • I don’t know about shadowing and all that, but according to this, whatever we are doing is working
