They have got to do it.

The Panthers have maybe 1 or 2 hard games left on their regular season schedule, depending on how you feel about Atlanta. They have the defense. They have the corner. They have the offensive line. They have the quarterback.

They have got to get a wide receiver.

Get used to the shot they just took against the Colts. That's a bad team with a lot of pride that could have rolled over, but didn't. They were playing for their coach's job and they almost came into our house and upset us on fuging national television.

Do you know why?

Because we do not have that one player that would make this offense work.

The Panthers want to play it close to the vest. That's fine. Their head coach was on a legendary defense. Their defensive coordinator is the son of a legend. Their offensive coordinator wants to run plays from the 1960s. Whatever. There's just one problem. When you play it as tightly as your coordinator wants to play it, there's no room for error.

At some point some one is going to have to make a play. When you're trying to score 45, one play doesn't matter. When you're trying to win by one score, it matters. And you know what happened tonight when that play had to be made? The offensive line blocked. The quarterback made the throw. Then this happened.

The Panthers are out of cap hell this year. They have the ability to make the play. Gettleman needs to make the call and do what has to be done. Pick away at the bones of the dead.

Call up Ryan Pace and ask him what he wants for Alshon Jeffrey. Local kid, last year of contract, could be negotiated with.

Call up Trent Baalke, ask what he wants for Anquan Boldin. Veteran, higher price tag, but he's a one and done. instantly the best wide receiver on the team.

Or you can sack up and do it.

Cal up Martin Mayhew and ask what it's going to take to bring in Calvin Johnson. Will it be expensive? Yes. Will it cost them draft picks? Yes. Will it be worth it?

Flags fly forever.

The Panthers are going to the playoffs guys. The Panthers are likely going to have a first round bye and play a home game. You need to win three games.

In those games, there is going be that one play that makes the difference. Do you want Ted Ginn to be the guy that has to make that play?

Everything else is there. Make the trade, Gettleman.

Imagine Calvin Johnson out there tonight instead of Ginn. Imagine just the prospect of that player being on our team on any play. You can't cover Olsen, Calvin Johnson, our other receivers, AND keep Cam contained all at once. You just can't.

Sure, it'll be expensive and hit us hard, but it would make this offense explode. Something that Ted Ginn is capable of setting up, but not delivering.

He won't make a move that he shouldn't make. This isn't just about today, it's about today and tomorrow. We made the Allen trade because it was an absolute steal at a firesale. Anything else we do will have to be that kind of situation.

Gettleman will not do anything that he feels will be a hindrance to this team long term in any way, and there's nothing that anyone will be able to do or say to change that philosophy. He will never make a short-term fix that has long-term effects.
