2010 draft pick

First round draft picks are overrated given the money those rookies have been getting right out of the gate. There is a reason the Patriots trade out of the first round and stockpile 2nd round picks. One high paid star doesn't make a team.

There is also talk of a rookie wage scale being implemented with the collective bargaining agreement that needs to be in place by 2011. That would change things a lot and be a very good thing.

Julius Peppers, Chris Gamble, Jordan Gross, DeAngelo Williams, Jonathon Stewart, Jeff Otah, Thomas Davis, and freakin Jon Beason were all number one picks....not exactly overrated. Those are the kind of players we won't be getting next season and we didn't get this season. We are getting a Ryan Kalil, Richard Marshall, Dwayne Jarrett, Keary Colbert, and Eric Shelton type players...these are almost like a coin flip and not the same kind of immediate impact guys the first rounders are.

Hurney, Davidson, and sadly Fox all have to go. They make most of the executive decisions concerning player personnel, off season trades, as well as playing time. We are far too talented a team with a good fan base to let clowns trade away our future. Nothing is ever been done in free agency to get rid of Fake Delhomme, yet they reward him by extending his tenure? As much as I love THE University of N. Carolina, we made the all but fatal mistake of rewarding now mediocre Peppers with 1,000,000 a game, when they should have let him walk over the summer. And the final blow of trading away future possible 10th pick for a lineman!!! We have no safeties, a depleated D line, 1 wideout, no quarterback, and will eventually loose both Smash and Dash to free agency or shortened careers because we hired a freakin O lineman as a coordinator. All of the problems have plagued the team like N1H1 for at least 2-3 seasons, but they act as if they dont see it. If heads dont roll in the offseason, the boys are in the "Ram effect" soon. Once hailed "The greatest show on Turf" is now the laughing stock of the NFC. Believe me we are not too far from it

props for bumping an old thread instead of starting a new one.

I was upset about trading away the first round pick last year just like everyone eles. But nobody knew if Peppers was goin to be here this year or not, and they wanted someone for the future to fill his spot. They werent lookin at the season for 2010-2011 they were looking at this season, just like they did they year before this with stewart and otah. That seems too work out good, huh? First rounds arent everything, sometimes they work out and sometimes they are busts who knows? The thing you do know is they eat up a big contract, worth alot of money. Should we try to sign unproven players and let the vets we know can play go because of lack of cap room? Next year arent they doing something with the salary cap? I think that would be the year to go after a big first rounder. I think they did what they had to to, first rounder arent everything. Alot of good players come out of the late rounds and that could be what we end up with.

True, !st rounders arent everything, but they are leverage. If u wanna trade one, dont give up a future 1st rounder. Trade them for a few lower round picks in the same draft. The end result could be exactly what happened this year. Things dont work out as planned and you suffer for two or more years to fix a "right now problem". And wadda ya know.... Jeff Otah is on IR!!!! now ur out of the traded pick and the player...

Weak DT class.

So much of nothing.

I disagree, both Sammie Lee Hill and Gilbert were there. Gilbert would have been the logical choice as we have had no interior pressure for years and he has the potential to be a beast at the 3 technique (the Bears were using him as a DE which IMO is not were he is best suited).

Then we could have gotten Hill instead of Irvin in the 3rd. Hill is going to be one hell of a NT and is a mountain of man and has the strength to hold two blockers and still have the ability to pass rush (refreshing a NT that can do both stop the run and apply pressure up the middle). Then IMO we have potentially the next Williams-type wall in Carolina. And this is what I wanted before the draft so I want no Hindsight comments.

So instead of this we get Martin (who looked good when fox let him play) and Irvin (who played not a down). But why get him if he comes in and is successful and you still let Godfrey start? Dumb asses

Thats what I was saying. There is no way they would turn down our 2nd and next years 3rd to move down 16 spots in the 2nd round. I think it reeks of desperation.
