Nice Article on Cam

Just was about to post this.  Amazing to see ESPN acknowledge Cam as an elite QB.  That's perhaps more surprising than going 16-1!!!

Here's an excerpt. (emphasis added)

Quote

So in sum, Newton spent the second half of the season throwing more touchdowns, fewer interceptions and completing passes at just as high an efficiency as the top passers in the league. Although he finished the season as the NFL's top rushing quarterback by yards (636), touchdowns (10) and first downs (57), by the end of the year he was producing four times as many points on passes (via 48.3 expected points added) than on runs (12.6).

(Here's an explanation for the expected points added metric, if you need it.)

It wasn't long ago that a serious public debate erupted when the Panthers signed Newton to a long-term contract that averaged $20.8 million per year. The Panthers had little choice on that number from a salary-cap perspective, but Newton had far from proved himself worthy of elite pay in the minds of many.

It's hard to make that argument anymore. Cam Newton has elevated himself into an elite quarterback in every way imaginable.

Did you read the stuff they said about Cam before this year?? LOL

Yes.  ESPN has always been very down on Cam.  That's why it's pretty amazing to see them finally acknowledge that he's become an elite passer.

Yeah.

And I was actually talking about THIS specific article (them criticizing in the past), when they were discussing his "stats" from the past. And you may have to!? LOL

    • Number 9  Carolina Panthers  Bryce Young, the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, produced career highs in completion percentage (63.6%), passing yards per game (188.2) and passing touchdowns (23) in 2025. However, those numbers aren't exactly stellar by NFL quarterbacking standards. Even though the Panthers backdoored their way into the postseason in 2025 as NFC South champions with an 8-9 record, Young's performance was up-and-down. He threw for the third-fewest passing yards by a quarterback to make the playoffs in the last 20 seasons, per CBS Sports Research.  FEWEST PASSING YARDS BY QB TO REACH PLAYOFFS, LAST 20 SEASONS (MIN. 16 STARTS) PASSING YARDS PLAYOFF WINS 2012 Christian Ponder (MIN) 2,935 0 2008 Joe Flacco (BAL) 2,971 2 2025 Bryce Young (CAR) 3,011 0 2006 Steve McNair (BAL) 3,050 0 2019 Josh Allen (BUF) 3,089 0 Young did deliver some high highs, like when he threw for a franchise-record 448 yards passing in a Week 11 overtime win at the Atlanta Falcons and when he went toe-to-toe with Stafford in the playoffs in a 34-31 defeat.  Kenny Pickett couldn't win the Cleveland Browns' quarterback competition a year ago, and Will Grier is a career backup. • That thread has all the huddle legends either posting in it or mentioned in it. I remember everyone of those folks and I truly miss seeing them post here. This place was so much better with them here.
